He took photos and videos of the flue interiors with explainations texted to our phones. They were charged $300 just for the inspection, and the cleaning was never done. The technician told them: *The stove pipes were rusted. They are not; they're stainless steel. *The pipes were aluminum and needed to be replaced. This was also false, since aluminum isn't used for chimney stove pipes. *The top cap was too small, which they claimed was causing more cracking and erosion of the chimney. They were quoted $30,000 in repairs and told these had to be completed before any cleaning could happen. My parents recognized the claims didn't add up and refused. A second, reputable company inspected the same chimney and found it in great shape, with no corrosion. They cleaned it for $199. I've since found other reviews describing similar experiences with this company. I believe my parents were targeted because of their age. This looks like a bait-and-switch: advertise a cheap service, then scare homeowners into huge, unnecessary repairs.
