Gave 1 star because there isn't an option to give 0. The food was terrible, as in tasted so bad that I didn't eat the entree out of fear of food poisoning, and should have refused to pay for it. Noodles were barely cooked, rice was so undercooked it was crunchy. Flavor tasted off, way off, and the chicken pieces in the dish were scary-rubbery with hard edges. Wait staff was slow, inattentive, and rude. They even have a condescending note on the table to tell you how you shouldn't be using chopsticks. The note is on plain, un-laminated paper that has food stains on it. AVOID this restaurant, it may seem convenient to go there before a movie, but it is absolutely not worth it. read more

Came here with my family while visiting Charlottesville. It's always hard to find good Thai restaurants but this hit the spot!! The food was great- very flavorful and fresh, but not too overpowering. I'm usually not a fan of friend rice but I lived their Thai basil fried rice. The papaya salad was also refreshing. I enjoyed the food so much that I forgot to take pictures of the dishes but suffice to say this was one of the best Thai places I've tried. Also loved the ambiance inside- very clean, minimalistic, and lots of greenery everywhere! read more

This place was great! You could actually taste each and every ingredient. Didn't have to wait long for my food. The service was pleasant and I felt welcomed. The only reason I don't give 5 stars was the beer selection..I'm beer drinker. lol. However, everything else was right on target.. Its a little small so its possible you may have to wait if you arrive during peak times. If you do, its worth the wait. read more

The food was just, okay. I got the pork belly and honestly it tasted a bit weird. It wasn't bad, but I would've preferred the pork belly been cooked a bit longer. I also got the Pho, substandard for Pho but again, not bad. read more

I always choose Chimm for Thai (and Vietnamese) when in Charlottesville running errands. Their choice of fresh ingredients and slightly different seasoning twists are a welcome change from the Thai restaurants I'm familiar with in Richmond. I also like their leaving the spice level to the customer at the table rather than having to guess what they mean by Hot, Medium or Mild classifications on the menu. read more

The Good: The food, the decor, the staff The Bad: Got there when they opened still waited forever to get our food (but when it came it was delicious) The Ugly: Their original location by Stonefield is the better place to go until until they work out the bugs here and expand the menu to the full offerings. Give this place three months and it will be incredible. read more

Delicious curry dishes. Our waitress mentioned that the chef makes the curry from scratch and you can definitely taste the difference. It was a bit spicy for not being asked what spice level I wanted, but full of flavor. The draft list is very limited and could use a few more options though. read more

We ordered the CSA delivery from Chimm tonight for our wedding Anniversary because, during Covid, it has become not only our favorite restaurant, but the highlight of our week. The watermelon salad was spicy but memorably tasty. The fresh rolls with Shrimp are almost a meal by themselves (2 rolls per order). The Eggplant Stir Fry has a copious amount of eggplant and curry dishes have just the right amount of coconut milk and spices. The Pho is superb--best we've had (especially the Satay Pho;) Most of all, the owner and staff are amazingly service oriented, friendly and kind. I happened to mention it was a special night for us and they added a a special dessert and something to toast with. I also help out at The Haven and that Chimm helped with a lunch for the homeless guests there during the Stay at Home time. Proud to have them serving in our town. I hope you order often and enjoy it as much as we do. read more

Chimm - Mango Sweet Sticky Rice and Mango - Vietnamese Near Me - Charlottesville, Virginia

This place is awesome. Tasty food and pho, creative menu items, great service, good vibe. The boat noodle soup is a must.

Working today in Charlottesville and just happened to stop at Chimm. I'm a creature of habit and love Pad Thai but the Crispy Duck Basil Stir FRY lunch special came highly recommended. It was incredibly delicious with just the right amount of heat. I wish I took a picture before I cleaned my plate. This is not your average Thai restaurant. Can't wait for my next trip back to Charlottesville. P.S. - our servers where awesome. read more

We got there around 7:30 on a Saturday night, thinking we would need to wait 20 or so minutes. We were pleased to have perfect timing, with a booth opening up just as we arrived. We split some vegetarian garden rolls to start, which were very tasty. A bit pricey for the portion, but still very tasty. We both had panang curry, one vegetarian, and one with pork. The dishes were both good, with the pork panang a bit broth-ier, and the pork meat admittedly a bit tough and lacking in depth of flavor. The broth and vegetables were still very good, though. I really enjoyed the dishes. The rice was just perfect. Highly recommend. read more

The best drunken noodles I've ever had! I've never had a bad experience here and all the employees are always every nice. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Thai / Asian food! read more

The soup here is fantastic. Best Tom Yum I've had anywhere. The pho noodle bowls are also delicious. Friendly and prompt service, plenty of parking. read more

Our second time eating here and the food was equally delicious but the service was horrific. Each basic detail of waitressing was forgotten: Water and drinks were not offered until we'd been seated and staring at the host stand for ten minutes, no one ever came to check on us after food was served, no sharing plates were provided though the meal is staggered to facilitate sharing, and one entree was forgotten. I knew from the note on the menu that the curry would take longer to prepare than my husband's soup, but when the gap between my entree and my husband's reached 30 minutes I flagged down a waitress (our first contact with a waitress since we placed our order) and her reaction gave away that the food had been forgotten. Not a good look, especially when my seat gave me a clear view of the wait staff chatting in the kitchen. Guaranteed way to make a customer angry. Our waitress then forgot to bring us the check when we were done. Some training for the staff, please. I would like to eat there again and have a better experience. read more

This place will wake up even the most weary taste buds! So many big flavors! The three of us each ordered a couple of small plates to share. Great plan! We each got to experiment with the chef's sauces on top of the brilliant flavors each item came out with. Super friendly and helpful wait staff. And each plate came out as soon as it was ready, so everything was the perfect temperature. Bright and crisp decor. This has got to be my favorite Thai place... read more

Found this place online while passing thru. Had to do take out due to pandemic and sat outside in the Yard which was hot but food was delicious. Employee bent over backwards to get our food quickly. Thanks for the great service! read more

This place is exactly what Charlottesville needed! The food is beyond tasty, the flavors are bright and fresh, and the food is a great value. The waiter we had was friendly and informative, and the food came quickly. I plan on being a regular at Chimm! read more

Omg I can't believe how good the food was here. My dining companion and I had the vegan red curry dish, vegetarian panang curry, beef pho, and vegan fresh rolls with peanut sauce. I'm a vegetarian leaning vegan, and she's an omnivore...I tried everything but the pho, and she sampled it all. Our waitstaff, Chad and Darian, were so willing to go above and beyond with our special requests (add brocolli to the red curry, and more peanut sauce, please!) We agreed that driving from Richmond to Charlottesville for dinner was ABSOLUTELY worth it. Strong flavors, fresh ingredients, and plenty to enjoy both for dinner and for a leftover meal to go! I'm excited to come back and enjoy dinner again sometime because it's JUST. THAT. GOOD.!!!! read more

This place is what I call FRESH! The ingredients are bold and very tasty! The service was exceptional and friendly! The hostess even fancied me with sauce samples they use in the restaurant! I LOVED THE ATTENTION! The service was fast and well put together. My only small feedback is the take out portion size is rather small, but surprisingly filled me up. I got the chicken satay, Thai chili meatballs and Thai noodles.... The price compared to the portion was askew, but like I said it satisfied me. The space was clean and full of smiling faces I give this establishment 4 out of 5 stars. I WILL return. read more

I'm a big fan of Thai food going back to growing up in Asia. And I've enjoyed the food at the related restaurant, Thai Cuisine and Noodle. So when I found out that they were opening Chimm close to my neighborhood here south of town, I was pretty excited. First, the good: the wait staff and management was very patient in explaining vegetarian options to my wife, stressing that many dishes (in particular, the curries) use fish sauce and or chicken stock to form the base, and of course we expected that, and we appreciated their offer to make a stir-fry dish with a soy-sauce option for her. I'm an omnivore so I had a standard meat-based basil stir-fry (beef). Both dishes were spiced well and accurately to our specifications, 2 for her, 3 for me, on a scale of 0-4. Flavor/umami was solid, veggies were tender/crisp and the proteins on both dishes were cooked just right. Now the criticism: both dishes were way too salty! I am a notorious salt fiend, so I was shocked to come to that conclusion. I would have pointed to the soy sauce substitution as a possible source of the problem with my wife's dish, as it's easy to get a heavy hand by accident, but my beef basil was also over the top with sodium, and it dampened my enthusiasm for what otherwise seemed to be a really well-cooked meal. I will of course go back to find out if it was just a fluke, but in the meantime I would ask that the chefs consider that your flavors and textures and other spices under the sodium seem to be excellent, and that perhaps you need just a little less in the salty category of sauces to really help your food shine. Thanks for listening. Update after restaurant feedback below: First, thanks for the response, it is refreshing to see management so proactive. No, unfortunately we did not notify our sever, partially because a) we had been traveling all day and would not have had much time to wait for the dishes to be remade and b) because of this fact of you not having a chance to make it good, we didn't want to say something that might be taken as more of a criticism than we intended it to be, as you'd already been so helpful. I think our give and take here has been very en and obviously, if this issue is not noted by other reviewing patrons, then it's likely a fluke. Thanks again. Update 2: we've been back and I'm happy to say the problem did not recur. We had a lovely meal, caringly packed for take-out. Good job Chimm! read more

Great addition to the 5th Street Station! I tried the cashew stir fry with pork and it was delicious! Friendly, helpful staff and great menu options. Can't wait to return! read more

Food was excellent. The drunken noodle has the perfect amount of spice. When paying at the table, we were told by our waitress that tip was NOT included. After getting the receipt we noticed that a 20% gratuity had already been added without our knowledge. We had all tipped in addition to this and felt cheated. read more

What an absolutely amazing meal. Too often I have been underwhelmed by Thai food in the area. It's generally good but not spectacular. This new restaurant serves food that is remarkably fresh and clean tasting. Broths have depth and the sauces are bright, funky, and packed with flavor. If you're looking for pad Thai, I'm sure theirs is very good. But Chimm offers unique dishes you probably won't find elsewhere and I think those are the real stars. If you order the bah mee ped with duck, be prepared to fall deeply in love. Our service was efficient and friendly. Give the place a little time to find their groove and if they're a little slow one night, know that you'll be rewarded for your patience in the end. read more

I took my family to Chimm to sample something different. We tried the chicken satay, which was delicious. It was served with 4 varieties of sauces that were made in house and amazing! We also tasted the crab and pork dumplings and those were outstanding. The restaurant was clean and the service was impeccable. Chimm is new and the menu is expanding weekly. I can't wait to dine here again and try more new dishes. read more

Alright, Chimm. You redeemed yourself. We got takeout recently. The orders were correct and the food was good. I'm still skeptical given our two bad previous experiences, but I hope this is a sign that the restaurant is maturing and taking care of staff issues. Keep it up. read more

We planned to eat dinner here but after two requests the hostess would not allow us to sit at the bar stating they wanted to fill the tables first and were saving the bar seats for solo guests. So we went to a restaurant that allowed us to sit where we wanted and enjoyed a fabulous dinner and amazing service and likely won't be back. read more

I usually like to vary my choices when I make a repeat visit to a restaurant, but after three visits, I've yet to make it past the Kao Soi. It's perfection! It's all the tastes at once- hot, sweet, sour, creamy, astringent and so soothing. The Vietnamese coffee is also highly recommended. read more

I came here for veggie pho with fried tofu for dinner once, and it was AMAZING! I had also ordered the veggie spring rolls, which were crispy with delicious filling and a delicate, sweet sauce. The Thai Iced Tea with coconut milk is a show-stopper. However, today I went for lunch and ordered the vegan drunken noodles with fried tofu which was very disappointing. It did not look like the pictures in the reviews-- the dish was very dark and greasy, not chewy (noodles were stuck together), and just salty with no real chili flavor. It was not even spicy, which was confusing because other reviews said it was. It did not taste fresh; I don't know if they cooked it differently or in old, leftover oil just this one time, but regardless it was disappointing considering my first experience with Chimm and considering that drunken noodles is usually my favorite Thai dish. I would recommend working on consistency if patrons have such different impressions of the dishes. read more

Are there for the first time today. I ordered the Cashew Stir Fry with pork. The dish itself was very good. The mix of flavors were interesting and complimented each other well. The pork was a bit fatty and not quite as tender as I would have liked, but it wasn't a big issue. The place has poor acoustics, it can get very loud. I would definitely return. read more

Ive been here a couple times and tonight i realized that the portion sizes have changed. I got the Kao Soi, which I get almost every time i visit. This time however it barely had any broth which is a shame because the broth is delicious. I asked the waiter if it was possible to get more broth but she stated that everything was pre portioned and it would cost extra. I was very disappointed and hope that this isn't a new way to get away with smaller portions for the same price. read more

Solid Thai restaurant! Lot of different options here, and great service. The food was delicious and they had great options.

Meh. Too bad. They need to do something with the ambiance. It's a very cold atmosphere, industrial feeling, no special touches. The lunch Pad Thai was basically a bunch of greasy noodles. Tooooo bad! The friend Spring Rolls were tasty. An ok place to run in for a quick bite but choose wisely. The lunch menu items are very skimpy on substance. read more

I came here because the same family who owns Thai Cuisine over on Commonwealth closed that restaurant down for a few weeks to go fishing (totally understandable). I ordered two items for takeout: chicken pad thai and beef pho. The pho is decent when there is no other acceptable Vietnamese restaurant in town. However, I was shocked that the pad Thai did not taste like pad Thai at all. There was no tangy tamarind flavor. I don't understand the difference between the two restaurants. Can't wait for Thai Cuisine to reopen. read more
