Americanized Mexican food in a very colorful and cheap spot with fast service. I would say it is the South City equivalent of Burro Loco or Mi Ranchito There are lots of cheesy decorations all over, including huge murals of random people on the walls, and they also have a covered patio with a bar. There are also two security guards keeping watch over the place as well. Free chips and salsa that were pretty solid. I got the chicken fajita and it was kind of dry and pretty basic, pretty much the quality I was expecting Pay at the register

Good entrees with a fiesta style decor. 3 stars because the Margs are made with sour mix vs. fresh lime and guacamole was not fresh (as in probably out of a tub). However, the Margs are huge (small is 27 Oz), and heavy on the booze. The Alambre meal was divine (and spicy with fresh jalapeño). But that Queso blanco though, that stole the show! Rice and beans on point too. Service - fantastic - 5 Stars on service. Thank you Rosa! The bar is located outside. Although you could sit there, there was no bartender and it wasn't stocked. Super cool patio though with fake palm trees and straw grass umbrellas. Would I return? Yes. This is place is exactly what you'd expect from the looks of it outside. A spot for cheap and stiff Margs and Tex-mex classics.

Ordered takeout nachos and margs. 2 margaritas to go and nachos for 21 bucks. Seriously, support this place, it is a neighborhood staple. Plentiful serving, full of ground beef and fresh chips and not smothered in cheese. Heavy pour on the 12 oz margs- do not get the 46oz fishbowl unless you have nothing to do the rest of the evening! Open for takeout and in person dining. Perfect except one of the staff wearing a chin diaper - eveyone properly masked up.

Looking for a fun and cheap night out? You'll find it at Chimichanga's. The ambiance is bright colors, the Margarita's are a pre-mix, but the liquor is poured heavy and the food is plentiful and affordable. Stopped by on my way to a private party with a few other friends. We wanted to have a little something in our system before drinking with the big boys. I arrived first and snagged prince parking on the side of the building. As I approached the entrance, I was alerted to their security system. I was immediately put at ease. Check my pictures, to understand. I went to their bar on the patio to wait for the others and ordered a Cadillac Margarita. It was served in a huge frosted mug. As stated in the intro, it was a pre-mix, but they definitely were not stingy with the booze. Once my fiends arrived, we got a table inside due to the heat. I was hungry, but not that hungry, so I just ordered some Chicken Nachos. Jalapeños were not in the description, so I asked if they could be added. Our server, said no problem. When they arrived, I was impressed. Other casual Mexican restaurants when I ask them to be added, put them in a small dish on the side. Not here, they went ahead and topped my tortilla chips with them. Nice! It's a dive of a Mexican restaurant, but it's fun and the food is good for the price. I'll be back? - Sure, I love a strong Margarita and cheap food. When: July 11, 2018 Why: Pre-party eats

You can't miss this brightly colored Dutchtown joint - drive down South Grand - you'll know what I mean. I don't even need to give you the address. I have only been there on a week night and I am guessing that with only residential parking, as most south city joints are, that the parking situation can get a bit dicey. You should start judging a Mexican restaurant only once you've received the salsa... if the salsa is chunky and tastes like something from a jar... hard pass. If, like Chimichanga's, you receive a nice thin cantina style salsa that isn't too tomato-y - that's a big thumbs up... Salsa, to me, is a big deal because I eat salsa virtually no other time in my life, so when I go to Mexican restaurant this is often the thing I lust after. Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered a pitcher of Cadillac margaritas - they were pretty darned tasty, but they are the margaritas that are a premix - if you're looking for a legit, artisan-style, margarita that is simple with no mixers --- (Milagro, once it reopens, someday - we hope!) or Mission Taco... the Tilford brothers know how to do a legit margarita. Either way, these were still cold and tasty! Onto my entree... this one was a no-brainer- as the Taco Queen I knew that I was getting the baja fish tacos. They were SO good. Light crispy batter, avocado crema that really added something delightful to the taco, corn tortillas that held together nicely to eat the tacos AND a nicely crispy, fresh, slaw on them. I genuinely enjoyed these fish tacos and I am considering trying to figure out how to make my own avocado crema in the future when I do fish tacos at home! (To note: I have seen other STL restaurants do a 'crema' with avocado and its almost foamy and frothy and has no flavor, this was definitely a crema in a true form - with some flavor!). Will return!

Clearly Chimichangas has a loyal following me included and while the food is almost always spot on I've eaten here enough to experience the kinks in their armor. Located in south city on Grand sometimes parking can be an issue but not usually. They have plenty of seating inside and out so there's rarely a wait. Adorned with typical Mexican scenes painted on the wall Chimichangas is pretty typical. Food wise? Almost always perfect with my favorite being the carnitas. A mound of perfectly seasoned pork. Another favorite is the carnitas tacos. Really tender but occasionally you get that gristle that you just can't chew. Their salsa while always fresh and tasty varies in heat depending on the day. Now I can handle almost any heat but it was too hot for my son. Overall it's darn good at a reasonable price and that's why I'll be back. You should try it!

Lovely Mexican restaurant located deep south in St. Louis City, Dutchtown to be exact. If you're driving south on Grand just glance to the right once you reach Eichelberger....the vibrantly colorful building with lights & awnings & outdoor patio nearly extending to the street & cars crowded around the general vicinity...that's Chimichanga's. Anywho, I'm always stumped when it comes to ordering Mexican so I keep it simple and get a super basic taco. It was delicious! I could've ordered at least 2 more but the way my carbs are set-up.... My dining partner ordering the chicken fajitas which arrived in show stopping form; hot & sizzling! She enjoyed them immensely. Lunch for the both of us was $10. I was almost offended how cheap this bill was, however I paid & moved on "happily" lol. Staff was super cool, fast & efficient. The place is so full of character I felt myself glancing around in aw of some of the artwork. I'd come back on a high carb cheat day for sure. ~Christy

I usually end up parking on the street right around the restaurant. The restaurant is casual, yet nicely decorated. The wood accents bring a homey feel to the space, while still emphasizing Mexican culture. After being seated with my friend, we were brought chips and salsa. The chips were warm and fresh, and the salsa was chunky and spicy. Our server was so friendly, and we had excellent service. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. It was delectable! The smoky flavor, tender and juicy chicken, and the nicely-sized portion made this an excellent meal. For dessert, we ordered the Churros. And wow! They were warm, sugary, and filled with gooey cream cheese! The Dutch chocolate on the side was such a complimentary touch. I am excited to come ba

My wife loved her tostada and my fajitas were good...not great. The chicken seemed to not have a lot of flavor. The Margarita's on the ricks were good...again, not great. What is odd it that I was charged for Vegetarian Fajitas as well. I did not look at my receipt until I was 2,000 miles away. The Manager of Chavas credited my Visa was he informed of the issue.
