Wow i cannot believe that this place exist and it is the first time I tried this place. This Mexican ice cream place which is next door to a Mexican grocery store. There is also a Mexican restaurant that is next door to the Mexican grocery store. Upon stepping foot into this ice cream place, I felt like I was somewhere in a Mexican town. Everyone at this Mexican ice cream place were speaking Spanish. The menu is only in Spanish. It was hard to order since I don't speak Spanish. However we did manage to order. The mangonada was delicious. The fruit cocktail container that we got was huge and it was a great price too. Their other ice cream options look great. The Mexican grocery store had a large variety of options. We end up going there and buying a few snacks after we had ice cream. Parking was hard on the weekend, because this place tends to get busy and I did see quite a few car circling around for parking spots

Best tacos in St. Louis I love it here. Great salsas. Great service and prices. K bien!

    El Torero, awesome meal!!

Another journey on the road to great food led us to El Mexiquense a legit Mexican restaurant. By far the most authentic, and reasonably priced restaurant in the St. Louis vicinity. Located in Overland, Missouri a 20 minute drive west of STL, El Mexiquence delivers what most Mexican restaurant can't, traditional dishes with flavor. Our first surprise was chips and salsa. Not 1, but 4 salsas to choose from all varying in texture and heat. All were evenly balanced with great flavor as well as taste. Wife ordered the sopes with Al Pastor and chicken. Sopes came with great portions and fresh vegetables and a delicious pico de gallo. Daughter ordered the veggie quesadilla, which was enormous and full of fresh ingredients. Finally I went with the El Torero, a specialty dish with carne asada, nopales (Cactus) and chicharrones (fried pork fat), black beans and fresh tortillas. The dish was loaded with flavor and the variety of salsas provided totally elevated the dish to another level! El Mexiquence decor was very traditional and the artwork represented several styles of Mexican culture. The restaurant has a bar as well as take out, which both were extremely busy during the dinner rush. We didn't try the margaritas on this visit but we will next time. Restaurant was very clean and tables serviced quickly. Server alway checked up on us and gave us some space when our meal arrived. Music played was all the traditional Mexican music you would listen to when visiting the old country. Oh and did I mention desserts? El Mexiquence has multiple types of desserts from raspados, ice cream and pastries. We didn't get a chance to try this time, but we're definitely coming back. If you like truly authentic Mexican food try this place out. You can get a great meal for a very reasonable price with great service.

I found this place on accident and now it's my favorite. I've only had this as take out so far. The grilled vegetables are absolutely perfect. They're flavorful, grilled, and perfectly cooked. I tried the huitlacoche empanadas and they were delicious. This review is night and day horrible but the food is just so good, I can't think of words. P.s. I think this might be the cleanest Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The sign on the front of the building doesn't have a light. Nor does the parking lot in general. If you don't know where you're going, you can easily pass it, even using gps.

Love my waitress. Had the chance to share Horchata with one of the youth at my church for the first time and he enjoyed it. The beef in the tacos were premium and tasted very well seasoned. Whatever cut that was is simply delicious. The environment is what makes out of it. Ice cream right next door.

One of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Saint Louis and favorite Mexican restaurants of all time. They recently expanded the restaurant which is a cute little dining area, I really like the custom bench/booths gives the store some character from what it was before. That have all my favorite dishes and are always amazing. The flavor tastes authentic to each dish, portions are good for the price, and never disappoints. I also order carry-out and deliver often since I live in the area! Suggestions would be chicken enchiladas verde (green sauce), sopes, caldo de res, and mojarra (whole fried fish for $12!). Side note: I've had from other places and the fish is no where near the size for a high price. If you're having a day.. get the margarita. The size are very very generous. Sometimes my friends and I go just to drink lol Oh oh oh, btw they also sell ice cream and next door is a market where you can buy marinated meat. perfect for a pot-luck for quick and easy BBQ. (:

This place reminds me of my favorite Mexican markets and restaurants in Houston. The market is great and the restaurant's food is absolutely delicious and AUTHENTIC. The ingredients are quality, the dishes are flavorful and delicious, and everything is exactly as I would expect from a the best local spots back home. I can attest to the quality of this market/restaurant as I am certain my Mexican family and friends would be ecstatic to try this place if they could. My girlfriend got the shrimp tacos (pictured) and they were insanely good. The sauce was flavorful and sweet and paired well with the fried shrimp.

I ordered 3 tacos and they were all wrapped together making them SUPER sticky and gross.

I ordered 3 tacos and they were all wrapped together making them SUPER sticky and gross. Literally uneatable. I called to request them to resend and wrapped individually and they said they don't. So sad because the website looks amazing and delicious.

We visited from out of town and I'm so sad that it isn't closer to me!!! The BEST Mexican food I have ever eaten and we love Mexican food. We had tacos, fajitas, and a quesadilla. All were phenomenal. I dream of this food. My picture does the food no justice. Visit here as much as you can for me since I live too far away.

El Mexiquense is located on a stretch of Lackland Rd. just west of Woodson that looks like the land that time forgot. Hollywood could use it as a backdrop, if they ever decide to mount that long-awaited sequel to Mississippi Burning. No matter which direction you come from, you have to drive past at least one if not a few similar restaurants. The great La Pasadita is right around the corner. So you're probably wondering why I would even bother with El Mexiquense, right? Because I don't have shit else better to do. Duh! I could just find one place that's really good (say, Durango) and keep going there over and over again, like an old person, but what if I find one place where the torta is slight better than everywhere else? Or a place where the tacos are just as tiny as everywhere else, but they cost $1.69 as opposed to $1.89? I'd say that's worth it. Obviously I'm in need of a bargain. And it's not like I don't have the time. I can try new Mexican restaurants while the rest of my generation is off working for a living, or downtown complaining about how they can't work for a living. Then I can review them for Yelp and feel like I accomplished something. Bonus! I'll take this as consolation for no comprehensive immigration reform. As it turns out, El Mexiquense does have both really good tortas and tacos that cost $.20 less than tacos at restaurants in places where you aren't as afraid of making a wrong turn. I only hesitate to say that the tortas are the best tortas of all time because I need to conduct more "research" before I can make such a momentous declaration. I wouldn't want to say that and then come to find out I was wrong. I take this that seriously. And I only recently started fucking around with a torta. It took me a while to convince myself that I should bother with something that looks like some unholy cross between garbage American fast food, a la the fare at Jack in the Box, and a taco. Didn't Taco Bell try to introduce something like that back in late '80s? You're best off just dispensing with your standards and '80s nostalgia and biting right into one of these things. Pause. I'd recommend showing up very hungry, because these sandwiches - unlike the authentic Mexican taco - are fucking ginormous, and because that way your less likely to think about what you're eating and how bizarre it looks. It's essentially your choice of taco meat, from a list including all sorts of shit, from the relatively pedestrian steak and chicken all the way down to meats that come from organs that I don't know and I don't want to know, topped with shredded rabbit food lettuce, tomato and a shedload of mayonnaise, on a roll roughly the size of a football. Maybe even larger than a football. I don't want you to get the idea that I'm exaggerating here. I'm not. They're served along with fries in a big-ass white styrofoam container. Normally I don't even bother to write about the fries, because I can get rather loquacious when I'm discussing delicious fast food and how it relates to some of the choices I've made in life, and because who gives a shit anyway. They're only remarkable when they're either really good or really bad. The fries at El Mexiquense are really good. They're very similar to the fries at Bandanas, of all places, but they're lightly (very lightly - tastefully, even) dusted with some seasoning that I'm pretty sure isn't just salt. But I don't know enough about seasoning to say for certain what it is. I'd ask Guy Fieri, who always seems to know what something's seasoned with, but I don't know him like that.

I had eaten a big lunch, so I ordered a couple of sides, Poblano Rajas and Half-Smashed Black Beans no cotija. For the table, my daughter's ordered the Classic Queso, and Chips & Salsa Two-Ways. The Queso was good but those salsas? They were really great. The red was smokey, which I love and not a lot of places do, and the green was a spicy pineapple, I think, it was so good! There was a Handmade Limeade ordered and it was so refreshing! I enjoyed the sides I ordered; I tasted the Al Pastor Empanadas, delicious and more so with that green salsa - sweet and spicy! Great spot I am glad we tried. Would love to return for a pitcher of margaritas when I am not driving!

Instead it was a Telera Bread that was like a very crumbly messy french roll. The pieces of chicken were very thin and cut into strips instead of one patty. It was very dry and not much flavor.
