The concept is the same, but Chimera is the best! Since 1991 it's been a place that is always busy as an innovative restaurant alternative. Chimera is located quite close to Krakow's central square in the old city and offers a variety of prepared foods from a buffet counter. It's a great deal--just 15 zloty gets you a selection of four items, and feeling very salady, I tried the beet salad (with lettuce); the broccoli with egg; the spinach salad with soy beans (which, uniquely, came with both cooked and raw spinach leaves); and my favorite, the herring salad with apple! I can't say that these were the freshest concoctions, as they had definitely been sitting around for a while and had started to wilt. But for the price, and for the really cool courtyard setting, this is a great casual place to check out in the center of Krakow that's actually popular with the locals! read more

I love it here. The staff is super nice and the food is great. We had breakfast here 2x in a row and we will come back! Would recommend the sweet rice for sweet teeth, it's really yummy and light. The prices are so low you feel as like you must be cheating someone... So we gave them a huge tip. The atmosphere is really cute and you feel as if you're in Italy. I cannot rave enough about this place. Coming from Germany, we get canteens with prices like this and the food there is nothing compared to chimera. read more

This is two restaurants in one. The one on street level is cafeteria style and then a normal restaurant down below. Food was good once you learn the system upstairs, which is not too user-friendly. My complaint is that they cram too much food on a very small plate, and you have to search for your utensils. Not to mention you have to make a separate trip to get and pay for any drinks you want to have before your meal starts. If you want a normal seated meal you go downstairs. Chimera is my go to healthy-food place in the Rynek. They have a lot to choose from the salads and yummy desserts. The ambience is really nice and staff are friendly. The Big plat (for 17 zł) is totally worth it when you are hungry and want to eat healthy. You can pick 6 portions (mix of salads and other dishes, 100 grams each). Occasionally (during the weekends) they live bands performing there. P.S. - Recommended if you want go for a pocket friendly date. read more

My all time favorite in Kraków! I've been coming here for years. I love everything about this place. It's run by students from the Jagiellonian University. Their outdoor, covered garden seating area has so much charm and character. The food is very good as well. Lots of options to choose from and you get to see the selections before you order them. Options include fresh salads, soups, various hot options, sweets, and fresh juices. This place never disappoints. Chimera is a true hidden gem, on a side street, right off of the Rynek. The Salad bar Chimera in Kraków's old town has a huge selection of different salads, a lot of them are vegan, and very, very tasty! It is located between the main market (rynek glowny) and the planty-greenbealt, in a covered yard, with lots of plants and daylight - a great atmosphere. You can have just one serving (100 gr) for 5 zl, a small place (4 servings, each 100g) for 13 zl or a big plate (6 servings) for 17 zl. You can choose from the wide range of salads, but you can also choose from warm (not too hot ;) vegetarian dishes, or meat. Besides there are available soups and other dishes, like pierogi. Even though I would like the place better if they didn't serve meat (therefore I am a rare guest), I have to point out that the salads are amazing and offering a wide, vegan offer - my favorites are those with chickpeas (ciciorka) or soy beans with lentils (soja z soczewica) and beetroot with oranges (buraki). read more

Instead of the salad bar upstairs, I have chosen to go downstairs to have a meal at the restaurant. The menu is typical polish dishes. I have ordered the white borsch. It is very nice, totally increase my appetite and prepare me for the goose beasts main course. It is served with cabbage & raisins. It is a very interesting combination of flavor. Put simply Chimera is a great place in Kraków to stop for quick meals that are cheap and pretty tasty, or to just to stop and admire the atmosphere. We stopped at chimera for lunch and were not disappointed. They have a cafeteria style menu that seems to change by the hour (we saw different food on the menu when we left than was there when we arrived), and that is not only ridiculously cheap for Kraków but also really good. They mostly have veggie and fish based dishes, with many options for vegetarians & vegans. The atmosphere was also amazing as we ate in what could only be described as a botanical garden wonderland. Ate lunch in the salad bar/cafe part of Chimera in a group of 4. Being tourists, we weren't sure about how to ask for the salad plates, so we sat down and a kind young waiter offered to not only serve us at table, but spoke perfect English to us (he was probably glad to stop me from mangling his language any further!). Had the borscht to start with, served in a mug with some salad on the side, and then the meat pierogi. The food was tasty and served quickly and efficiently. Very good value for money, with a 2 course lunch for 4 plus drinks hitting around £20 GBP. Very easy to find, just off Rynek Glowny, and was bustling with locals, so a good find - recommended for a quick lunch during sightseeing. read more

Polish food can be pretty heavy, so this salad bar/deli spot is a great healthy alternative. Basically you just get in line and order your food cafeteria style. They have different portion options (1, 4, and 6) and from what I remember the 4 portion meal was about 15 zl. My friends and I each ordered the 4 portion meals and it offered plenty of variety. The hot food options are first and then as you go down the line there's a wide assortment of salads - so before getting in line take a peek at the options (most of which were vegetarian). Each meal comes with salad dressing (given to you by the staff) and some bread (which you can find by the utensils, past the cashier). The best part about this place is that the interior resembles a greenhouse filled with random plants. Also, it's located just around the corner from the main square. read more

You have to be there between 1:30-2:30 or between 4:30-5;30 to get the best dishes. Before and after those times they produce little food. Great location, great outdoor atmosphere. Nice staff but it is obvious when the owner is there because the whole staff gets extremely stressed out and you can see it on their faces. read more

Interior with paintings, antique furniture and beautiful fabrics in a kind of "old Krakow" style, but very appealing and cosy. Perfect for candlelight dinner. This was our first visit to Kraków and we stopped at Chimera for our first meal, my wife wanted some healthy vegetarian food so after searching yelp we choose to eat here. There are to areas of the place and we choose to eat in the downstairs restaurant, it's not vegetarian. The basement area that the restaurant is in is beautiful, it is 500 years old and nicely decorated with various pieces of art, as far as the ambiance is concerned it is a 5 star place but unfortunately that doesn't follow through in the food. I had the trout with cheese, the trout was cooked nicely but it had a lot of bones, the cheese on the trout overpowered the flavor of the fish, it was nice Smokey cheese but for my taste it should have been a bit more delicate so as not to overpower the fish. My wife ordered the vegetarian plate, it was served on to plates the first had 3 types of salad and wasn't very tasty, the second plate had more choices but it was very underwhelming, boring flavors and bland. The server was very nice and did a good job but the food was not great. I would choose to try another restaurant before visiting Chemera again. Having said that, the ambiance was so nice here that perhaps we just ordered the wrong food, it might be a nice romantic place to enjoy a meal if you choose your food perfectly. read more
