Zielone Tarasy has one of nicest views in Kraków. If you come here, it's going to be for that reason. The quality of the food here is above average but nothing to write home about. It's a bistro with an emphasis on healthy eating. The lunch menu typically offers three choices. There's always a vegetarian option. Meat dishes tend to be weaker. Veggie dishes seem to get more care and creative flare. Even plain-old surówka tastes surprising good here. The prices here are amazingly low given the location. The only downside is the slow service. The waitresses here are nice enough but the roof-top terrace is fairly big. They are liable to not see the arrival of new guests. It also takes time to transverse the distance. Be prepared to wait a little if you choose to sit at a table with a nice view. If you sit inside then you don't run into this problem.

Czarna Kaczka - Duck breast salad, Bigos (stewed sauerkraut with meat) and Gołąbzkí (stuffed cabbage with veggies)- so good/dobry!

There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

My friend and I were in Krakow for just a few hours so thanks to Yelp, we stumbled upon this gem. I…read moreordered the Ruski Pierogi (cottage cheese, potato, and fried onion) and potato pancakes. The pierogi came with 9 pieces and the potato pancakes included 3 large pancakes. I am from the United States so I can honestly say these were the best pierogi I've ever had (and my grandparents made great pierogi!) The service was attentive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We dined around 4pm so we were seated right away but we were told that the other side of the restaurant was already booked for reservations starting at 5. I suggest making a reservation if you plan on dining at a typical dinner time. This was also on a Tuesday so I imagine they are quite busy throughout the week as well.

The concept is the same, but Chimera is the best! Since 1991 it's been a place that is always busy as an innovative restaurant alternative. People appreciate fresh, tasty food, marvelous service and lovely atmosphere. It's practically a salad bar. You'll enjoy soups, veggies, tarts, meat, desserts, and all sorts of drinks, such as fresh juices and smoothies. Coffees and alcoholic beverages are available as well. The prices are delightful, a little break from overpaying for everything in Krakow. First, choose the serving size you want: one, four, or six scoops. Then, see what's available and what appeals to you. In addition to the first floor, there are also two mezzanines where you can find additional seating.

Chimera is located quite close to Krakow's central square in the old city and offers a variety of prepared foods from a buffet counter. It's a great deal--just 15 zloty gets you a selection of four items, and feeling very salady, I tried the beet salad (with lettuce); the broccoli with egg; the spinach salad with soy beans (which, uniquely, came with both cooked and raw spinach leaves); and my favorite, the herring salad with apple! I can't say that these were the freshest concoctions, as they had definitely been sitting around for a while and had started to wilt. But for the price, and for the really cool courtyard setting, this is a great casual place to check out in the center of Krakow that's actually popular with the locals!

Chimera - My four scoops were smaller than my companion's. Apparently, not every server is equally generous. Still enough of food.

It reminded me of my grandmother's living room, which is odd because there isn't a hint of Polish in our blood line: only rumours of a dalliance with a Polish WWll fighter pilot. Hmmm... The wait staff are very professional in a way that tells the customer "I like my job!". They dance around the restaurant floor like Olympic champion ice skaters Torvil and Dean. We started with a fresh jug of beer and they brought this with bread, smalec and sour cream. Not wanting to spoil my delicate appetite, I had a nibble on my dining companion's crust (see below). I ordered the chicken pocket with beetroot and jacket potato. In a strange twist that has foxed me on a previous occasion, jacket potatoes are described as roast potatoes and vice versa. The meal came in about 15 minutes allowing me and DC to catch up on the world's events and guzzle our way through the freshly-poured pitcher. The meal was absolutely delicious. The potato was fresh, soft and covered in sour cream. The chicken was stuffed with ham, cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. I don't think I'll ever look at colonel Sanders the same way ever again. The warm beets were a trip. My DC Ordered the potato pancakes and goulash. Two slabs of pancake were too much for my tiny diner. The bill totalled 87zl but we left 100 to recognize the fabulous food and service.
