Title: Great vibes, fantastic drinks, but skip the unsolicited lecture We're visiting Bangor for the first time and were absolutely thrilled to stumble upon this spot while walking downtown. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a local coffee shop--loved the aesthetic, the crowd was friendly, and having the lounge area next door is a fantastic touch. The drinks themselves? Delicious. The person at the register clearly knows how to pull a great shot and make a beautiful beverage. However, we had a really odd interaction while ordering. Without any prompting from us, the barista launched into a strange, unsolicited lecture about whether a Café Mocha is Italian or American, speaking to us as if we had never had coffee outside of the U.S. It was especially baffling given that we've visited Italy numerous times. We didn't ask for the history lesson, and being talked down to for no reason definitely left a sour note on an otherwise lovely visit. The bottom line: Absolutely come here for the cozy space and the high-quality drinks. Just hope the person at the register decides to skip the coffee trivia and just make the amazing drinks they clearly know how to make. read more

I found the coffee to be average and overpriced. For two large cold brews with milk and flavored syrup, it was over $15. We also got the raspberry lemon loaf, and two slices of that made the total over $25! Unfortunately the loaf was completely inedible. So dry I could barely swallow it. I bake quick loaves all the time at home and have never tasted one so dry. The staff were super friendly and I loved the vibe of the place but I wouldn't return. read more

When you walk in you are surrounded by support of the local community, from the local recipe box, to help needed ads, and even local vendor products! They have a great assortment of drinks you can choose from. I decided to do a Wild Maine Blueberry Iced Tea. When they mentioned molasses as a sweetener option, I knew I had to try it. As a result, the drink had the perfect amount of sweetness, but also a nice blueberry flavor! I paired it with a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie and it was the perfect combo on a sunny fall day :) I highly recommend checking this great little spot out!! :) read more

My wife and I stopped in here while we waited for our flight as it was one of the few places in the area that we found serves matcha. While we didn't try the coffee, it looked like it would be delicious. I can say that the matcha was lovely. It is not sweet (which I love) but allows for you to add flavors or sweeteners of your own (which my wife loves). The service was friendly and efficient. We weren't in a hurry so we found a table and hung out for a bit. You can tell that many people use this spot for studying or working remotely so tables seem like they may be hard to come by if it's busy. The inside was super cute and it's in a great location. If we're ever in the area again, we'd definitely stop in. read more

This place had the best biscuit sandwich ever I really liked it so much that I was thinking about it and the cheese and the bread itself was so delicious. The turmeric latte was amazing. My husband got it and I kept stealing his drink because it was so good. The latte was generally very good as well. The ambiance here is really romantic Kyu then fine. I would highly recommend it with your date friends whoever or just Come here for a really good food from this café. I highly recommend coming here. Street parking is available nearby as well. I love this café. I would definitely come back if I'm close by. read more

Overall it might be a small place in downtown Bangor but don't let it fool you because it's a jewel in disguise. I got a large coffee, pumpkin/chocolate chip bread & chocolate chip muffin from the microwave & they did pretty good & even brought it to my booth where I was sitting & might be one or two people at the counter at a time but they were good, accurate in orders & timely. Well worth $15.00 including tip & before I forget it's local. read more

My son & I popped in for a couple Americanos this morning and they were really good. Nice, smooth roast. Shop has a nice assortment of tasty looking pastries as well and a cool, unpretentious vibe. Liz, the cashier, overheard my son and I talking about fishing (I have a goal of catching a fish in all 50 states :-)) so we asked if she perhaps had a recommendation on a spot to go. She suggested Fields Pond. Not only did I succeed in catching a fish but we had an even better time hiking the nice trails through the forest around the lake. So, many thanks to Chimera for the great coffee and perfect suggestion for where to wet a line! read more

If you rated on well designed coffee (coffee foam art) Chimera is doing well. Service was fast and you can actually ask for a ceramic cup - much better than wasting paper if you plan to drink on premises. The is a coffee shop like ambiance with tables and a community bulletin board. There is also some art to admire. This is a good option if you are downtown and need your caffeine. read more

We were just passing through Bangor on our way to Bar Harbor, but this ended up being my favorite coffee of our entire trip to Maine. I ordered the Violet Femme espresso tonic. It was subtly floral and just the right amount of sweet (rare, since most coffee shops use too much syrup, in my opinion), beautifully garnished with star anise. I really appreciated the artistry and, of course, quality of the beans. Wish we had time to stop here again on our way out of town! read more

Cute restaurant inside with plenty of seating. Drinks made in moderately good time but don't come here if you're in a rush. We watched another customer have to leave their order because the baristas took way too long. Drink flavors sounded really cool on paper but were just alright when we got our orders. read more

We stopped at Bangor on a Sunday morning and were hoping to get some caffeine boost. We were very happy that we found this spot and we enjoyed each drink ordered (joyride, pistachio latte, blueberry matcha). The staff, oh, such a delight. If I am giving advice to Bangor, the city can benefit from more coffee shops. There were only a handful non-chain coffee shops that open on Sundays. One is drive through only and the other is temporarily closed. I do not know what we would have to do if we did not find this spot. read more

Super quick and easy detour off 95! Awesome lattes. They use tandem beans to brew the espresso. All the syrups are homemade. They also have super good breakfast sandwiches on biscuits and good gluten free muffins. Would definitely stop here again. read more

Visiting Maine and haven't had a great coffee experience until I came to Chimera! First green flag was seeing they had Chemex and pourover equipment for sale. Ambiance was great--calm, chill vibe and clean. The baristas were incredibly friendly and accommodating to my pretentious requests/questions (I can't help it as a barista myself ). You can tell they know what they are doing (and are passionate about it, too)! The cortado was incredible! Perfect milk texture and temperature, and the flavor of the espresso really shined through. Also got one of their seasonal drinks (Almond Joyride) which was delicious. Wish I could go again and try their pour overs, but I'm heading home tomorrow. If I'm ever in Bangor again, I know where I'm heading first read more

Local cafes are the way to go! I got coffee from Chimera both mornings I was in Bangor. A cute little cafe with jazzy chill music and very friendly baristas!! I got the vanilla latte the first day and of course had to get the pour over the next day. Everything hits. Coffee is so smooth. I also tried their coffee walnut carrot cake and I love it so much. -9/10 read more

Great little coffee shop with supremely off-beat art and good coffee in Bangor. My wife and I came here looking for actually good coffee before we flew out of Bangor on our way home from a trip for our 15th wedding anniversary. This hit the spot. We both got cortados and while they weren't the best we've ever had, the were definitely near the top. Dry, clean and coffee forward. They also had a great little seating area inside and outside. Beyond that they had a clear punk vibe to the point that some of the art might border on not-kid-friendly. It's a nice change of pace from everything being cookie cutter and mellow. read more

It is a real delight having this space in Bangor. A place to slow down, or get some work done, enjoy truly beautiful herbal teas or a matcha. It's a fish tank view on down town Bangor which makes one appreciate it in a new way. The folks that work there seem super sweet and had good suggestions/ were so kind reminding us about closing but not in a janky rushing way. Such a great vibe. Beautiful. read more

The well spaced-out furniture in adjoining room is great for laptop, meeting w/ friends. Friendly staff. Good tea.

Buzzing from the moment it opens and set beside the beautifully restored lobby of a historic hotel, Chimera delivers espresso with complex flavors and a robust crema and creative takes on coffee shop classics, like an egg and cheese sandwich on a flaky, almost croissant-like version of a biscuit (get the spicy mayo)! The service was so kind and attentive to each person in line. The ambiance definitely has an artistic feel - local artists are featured inside and the shop participates in many local art events. It's a perfect place to start your day in Bangor! read more

Love the atmosphere and staff here. I've had the iced matcha latte, turmeric lemonade, and iced almond milk latte. Great coffee! :-) The breakfast sandwiches need to be handmade per order. Mines tasted like it was made a few days ago, frozen and then reheated. If they make the sandwiches fresh..with freshly toasted croissants or freshly baked biscuits...the line would be out the door.;-) read more

The coffee shop was easy to find and in a very cute location. Stepping in the shop was even nicer. The set up and staff was very nice. I probably asked more questions then was necessary, but not all coffee shops make espresso drinks the same. Staff was patient and informative with their information. Now to the coffee. It is the best cup of coffee I've had in months.. Though it was a latte it was above and beyond. Next time, I'll be trying a flat white . Do not hesitate to go to Chimera Coffee, you will be pleasantly pleased read more

Everything was solid: the service was quick, the people helping serve were kind and fun, the coffee was on point- and the wood and glass interior was cozy and open. There was a counter space to stand and caffeinate and read. Loved very minute. read more

A coffee shop. I am confused that when they changed name, and owners, they took the coziness out of the place. It became colder, they replaced couches with generic hard furniture, removed decorations off the walls. I get that you want to make it yours, it is just no longer my vibe. If I need a coffee or pastry i'll drop by, it is decent, but it just doesn't feel like the place i'd want to spend time anymore unfortunately. I'm sure other people feel the exact opposite about the chance. Maybe that is by design so they would increase in and out traffic and revenue, and not have people sipping a coffee for hours on their laptop or reading a book. read more

This place is my total go-to for evening or late night coffee hankerings. The staff is always awesome and the cappuccino is right on. Interior is small but well done. Having a gourmet coffee shop is important to keeping downtown Bangor vibrant. The updated (likely new owner) version served good coffee and took the time to design a heart which I appreciated. The updated shop design is relaxing and welcoming. Less welcoming was the cashier who was alittle grumpy (and winter has not even set in). Initial impressions are formed in that initial interaction so hopefully it was just an off day for that individual. Also, thank you so much for offering glassware rather than paper cups for those dining inside. Much appreciated. read more

This has become my favorite coffee spot when visiting my daughter in Hermon. I'll drive the distance to Bangor just for their coffee! Made with care by a barista who is meticulous about his coffee. the service was quick and the interior is super cute! I ordered a latte, they were able to accommodate with oat milk :)

4.5 is criminally underrated for this coffee shop. could easily hang with daily driver coffee shops in manhattan. nothing else in bangor comes close and it's totally passable for discerning coffee snobs. only ask is to add flat whites to the menu for more cred read more

This coffee shop serves good, strong coffee and offers tables and sitting areas for coworking or just relaxing.

I loved this coffee shop! The barista was warm and welcoming and the coffee was excellent. I got pour over from a local roaster. It's clearly a spot the locals visit as the barista knew nearly everyone who walked in. Loved it and I would return if I'm ever in Bangor again! read more

Good atmosphere, amazing pastries, creative and coffee-forward coffee where you can actually taste the coffee

I see the positive reviews and I think I might have just gotten a bad batch. The brewed coffee was weak at best. I drink a lot of coffee at a lot of coffee houses across the country. This day the shop missed the mark in my opinion. The flavor of coffee was absent and replaced by something I didn't recognize. As I said, in an effort to give the shop a little room, it may have just been a bad batch. read more

I had been a patron of West Market Square before the ownership change, so I was very excited to see how the new owners have transformed this cute little spot! My husband and I stopped by and were waited on promptly. We both enjoyed our coffees and took a peek at the art showcased in the shop. The variety of coffee implements is pretty wonderful, and I have to say, their Facebook presence is top notch! We really liked this little coffee shop and are excited to see their growth. read more
