5-3-26 Finally had the chance to come here after 2 baseball games in Manoa. One car pulled out so we got the metered parking on Waialae in front of the shop. Everybody gets a friendly welcome upon entering. The AC is perfect and the tables are wiped down whenever someone leaves so not sticky. Very bright and clean. Told the young guy at the counter, first time. We took him up on suggestions and recommendations. I added ice cream to mine but next time I'm getting the works: mochi, snow cap, ice cream for sure- not sure if the azuki I'd save for a third visit. My mango, strawberry milk, mandarin orange was an enjoyable combination. Cash only. A few customers had to leave cuz it's pretty much a plastic society most places. Soft, smooth shaven ice, cool flavors. The flow of customers is steady. It will be a line out the door in another month when summer arrives.
It's 96°F today so naturally I'm thinking about shave ice. After a delicious lunch of cake noodles, we stopped by for shave ice. It was a sweet treat, a tasty dessert, after a carb heavy meal. I shared a creation with a trio of bright fruit flavors and it hit the spot. It's a cozy place so eat your icy treat and get out and enjoy Oahu. Keep it Kaimuki.
Shave Ice Fact: Hawaiian shave ice is a historic, finely shaved ice dessert introduced by Japanese immigrants during Hawaii's plantation era in the early 1900s. Unlike crunchy snow cones, it uses block ice for a powdery, snow-like texture that absorbs syrup. Randy S. told me to #KeepItKaimuki so that's what I'm going to do. You just don't question my Cycle Buddy about things, okay? And when Nadine told me, "It's 'shave ice' with no 'D,' unless you want to be caught being a tourist," it will forever be ingrained in my memory. It's kind of like how Rod U. mentioned once not to eat oysters on months that do not contain the letter "R" and that's how I live my life now. Shave ice! Shave ice! Shave ice! I got the guava, mandarin orange, and lychee but my eyes were glued to Cycle Buddy Randy S's coffee and matcha duo. It was so good! I also tried twinsie Nadine's hojicha, haupia, and something else. All three shave ice creations were good but that matcha and coffee duo is the flavor combo I crave. Great place and even better service. Chillest is the chillest place to cool off!
All the hype is no joke! Aaron Wong is creating flavors unique to the decades long shave ice industry. A steady stream of locals know this place and thanks to my Yelp Squad, I'm now a groupie too. Two visits in my last trip to Honolulu 'cuz there are so many flavors I wanted to try. Owner keeps the shop simple. They are not selling you all kinds of stuff in the shop. They let their shave ice stand out and do all the talking for them. Generous portions of Haupia, Melona, Lychee flavors poured onto a mountain of soft snow. Oh yeah...and I don't forget the ice cream...ever! Do NOT pass on this place. I know Waia'lae Ave is crazy with limited parking, but they have a lot in the back too and the side street. You won't regret it. TIP: Cash only at this time.
my absolute favorite spot for shave ice that i've tried in oahu! small casual shop that's cash only with the friendliest and sweetest couple running it all on their own. they have a wide variety of flavors that they make themselves and for the price and portion, it's well worth the drive! soft, fluffy shave ice, with syrups that aren't too sweet and taste exactly as they're named. would love to come back again to try their other flavors!
Always on the search for a good shave ice place, I came across Chillest Shave Ice on Waialae Ave. It's a small hole-in-the-wall near The Curb. I noticed there was a parking lot in back of their business, but I'm not sure if that was for employees or the public. I ended up parking at a metered spot on the street, which is often hard to find. Upon entrance, I was greeted by the friendliest people. Not sure if the lady & man were the owners or employees, but they were very sweet. It's a small interior with a community table and a counter bar that looks out to the street. Cash only! They have 1 size and you can choose up to 3 flavors. They have 3 flavor categories: $6 classic, $7 house and $8 house. If you select 1 flavor from each category, you'll be charged the highest flavor. They also offer $1 toppings: ice cream, mochi & azuki beans, as well as free snow cap. I selected the banana cream, vanilla cream & orange cream under the $6 flavors. When it arrived to my table, I was shocked to see how big it was! It's definitely shareable. The ice was shaved very fine and the flavors were delicious. I can only imagine what the upgraded flavors taste like! I will definitely return to try some of their other flavors and toppings. I love supporting small businesses like this.

Favorites are: Ramune Grape Strawberry milk Hojicha Always add a drizzle of condensed milk! The wait time for Shave Ice can arrange anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes depending on how busy they are, but it's very worth the wait. The portions are towering and there is a decent amount of seating. Be polite! Wait in line, wait for your order, eat and go. Don't linger around for too long knowing that there are others waiting for a seat to open up. Parking is located on the street or inside of the little lot behind the shave ice store. They take card and Apple Pay! So what are you waiting for? Go and get a bowl of Chillest Shave Ice!
I heard the mochi here are the best, so when they told me they were sold out for the day, I promised myself I'd come back the next day, and I did! Just a heads up: Chillest Shave Ice is cash only. There's parking in the back, and you can scan a QR code for one hour of free parking. Unfortunately, I arrived right after a group of 10 had just placed their order, so there was a bit of a wait, but it was absolutely worth it. I ordered the strawberry milk and haupia shave ice, topped with mochi and snow cap, and it was AMAZING. The ice is shaved so finely that it just melts in your mouth. I honestly didn't think I could finish it all, but somehow I devoured the entire thing, yes, all eight mochis! The service was warm and full of aloha spirit. There are 3 small tables inside and couple tables outside in the parking lot. Chillest is definitely going on my rotation list for future Oahu trips.

This is my current #1 for shave ice, displacing Waiola. Ordering and menu are straightforward. There's 1 size. You can pick up to 3 flavors which fall under the $6, $7, or $8. So if you're pake like me, you optimize all flavors from the $8 menu. Also, snow cap (condensed milk) is included. How could anyone say, "No?" The ice is super fluffy and light. My top flavors so far: matcha, hojicha, haupia, strawberry milk
My friend was taking me on a food tour through Chinatown and Kaimuki. As it was getting later in the day, I suggested we try Chillest Shave Ice as I saw it on a food video. My friend had never been there, so he was game. When we walked in, lo and behold, he knew the owners (common thing in Honolulu). We tried different flavors, and I added ice cream and the snow cap (condensed mild - Bingsu style). Super good shave ice! Strawberry mild and Kinako are must-tries. If you do Li Hing Mui, you might just want that one flavor as it is salty and would go well with ice cream. We liked it so much, we went back the next day...LOL. Bring cash to pay.

Shave ice done right with a range of flavors! Favorite flavor combo: Strawberry milk, lychee, and coconut! ONO! Sweet and friendly staff, who doesn't love a family owned small business? Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about dropping $7-$8 on a shave ice, but the flavor lineup pulled me in. It's a solid mix of local staples and Japanese-inspired hits--think Li Hing and POG sitting right next to Kinako Latte and Japan Grape. I stuck to my guns with Strawberry and Li Hing, while the wife went adventurous: Ramune, Kinako Latte, and some kind of brown tea (the name escapes me, but the vibes were there). The Verdict When the orders came out, we were floored by the size--these things are massive. But it wasn't just volume; it was actually refreshing and packed with flavor. The real game-changer? This had officially become my FAVORITE shave ice place on the island! The owners & staff are super friendly. The flavors are out of this world but not uber sweet. I mixed hojicha and haupia because those were the two flavors I was feeling in the moment. The hojicha comes through with the same toasted tea leaf you love in a cup of hot tea. LOVE IT. The haupia smells and tastes like that last bite you take off your plate at a luau. My nephews LOVE that rainbow shave ice and always fight for the strawberry. There's a small lot in the back but, I really mean small. Go after work hours, there will be a few more. Parking on the street moves in and out pretty quickly. I can't wait to fly back for more shave ice from this Kaimuki/Palolo spot...I mean, to visit my family. read more
This place is a MUST try if you love shaved ice! We decided to try this place before we left Honolulu and honestly we really wish that we found it. They one of our travels because it was so delicious! Parking is a little bit hard to find, but it is located not too far from Waikiki and the shop is very clean and The owners are very friendly. There are some seating inside where you can enjoy the shaved ice right away! There were so many fun and unique flavors that we could choose from we decided to go to the three flavors of guava, kinako, And Japanese grape. We also got the Azuki toppings and the mochi. I am not exaggerating when I say that the portion was very big but was honestly the lightest shaved ice I've had in a really long time. The mochi was also handmade and so delicious and they gave us a lot of mochi. It is honestly probably the best shaved ice on the island and I will definitely be coming back the next time I visit Hawaii again !! read more

Broke da mouth fr The housemade flavors are all incredible - three of us shared two shave ices (6 flavors total) there were no bad flavors, even among the ones I wouldn't usually pick. First things first; this place is cash only. Alright, with that out of the way, the people who run this are some of the nicest people ever! Also, the shave ice is great! Strawberry milk, POG, and lychee all combined beautifully to hit the spot today. This place is a bit of a drive from where I usually am, but it's worth it. Highly recommended! read more
Softest ice on the island When I say soft, I mean like smoothest cream that melts instantly with no chunks or crystals. The flavors are spot on and not like artificial syrup taste. Kaimukī nostalgia and charm kicked in with the humidity, uneven sidewalks, and no signage. Spocked the lavender bench. Found free, street parking three blocks away on Waialae Ave. My intuition told me take this available parking stall now which I did. As I walked to my right, all street parking were occupied, including back parking lot. The Owners were very pleasant and courteous. I was surprised at the total cost of $8 for a gigantic Kinako Latte and Hojicha shave ice. They were kind enough to offer a third flavor for the same price. Very tempted to get Matcha; however, my palate preferred to enjoy uncommon flavors as much as possible. Will be charged for the highest priced homemade, in house syrup. Quality, quantity and value are worth the price! Cash all the way. Two huge tables were occupied with customers enjoying their shave ice too. I felt uncomfortable sitting outside on lavender bench facing winds on Waialae Ave. I felt comfortable and secure facing my back to the wall, standing, in back parking lot, while consuming smooth shave ice. I love and gravitate toward unique, flavorful, homemade, in house syrups. There were two guys nearby discussing acquired business. When I was done, two men were blocking the entrance/exit. I had to say, "Excuse me." They asked me, "We notice you're eating shave ice. Is this a shave ice business?" I said, "Yes. Chillest Shave Ice! Very smooth. They've got unique flavors. Try it!" They honestly thought it was a hair salon until they peered in the window and thanked me. Likewise, said my regards, thanked the staff, wished them a wonderful weekend, and went on my merry way. Chillest Shave Ice is a nice addition to the Kaimuki area. They are located in the same building as The Curb Kaimuki. Parking is also in the same lot and you need to scan their QR code for 1 hour of free parking. If the lot is full, you can look for free parking in the residential area of Palolo or street metered parking on Waialae Ave. You can enter off of Waialae Ave or through a single green door from the parking area. On the green door has the QR code you scan for parking. I actually had a hard time finding them and walked around the building to enter off their Waialae entrance when I literally parked right in front of their other entrance lol. Their menu is simple and the place is cozy. It's very welcoming when you actually find the place. Currently they are cash only and you have the choice of $6 Classic Flavors, $7 House Flavors, $8 House Flavors and $1 Toppings. Paul C raved about the Japanese Grape so I had to try it. When I got there, the inside eating area was full and all the outdoor seating was full. The Curb Kaimuki was closed so that was impressive how popular they are. This place was busy and it was a weekday! They also have their own restroom near the door to the parking lot but it's currently out of order. I was fortunate that there was no line when I arrived so I was able to order right away after I ran back to my car for cash. With Paul C's recommendation, I ordered Japanese Grape as one of the three flavors I could select. The other two flavors I ordered were Vanilla and Strawberry. They didn't take long to make my order and it was massive! There was no way I could eat it all myself and Mink was on another diet. Paul C was right that the Japanese Grape was legit. The shave ice is super soft. This satisfied my shave ice serving for the year so I'm good till 2026. Worth the effort to come here myself to give them a try. read more
This is a wonderful shaved ice place and the prices quite reasonable with lots of flavors to choose from. They have $6, $7 and $8 prices depending on flavors. The husband and wife team are very friendly. Wish I lived closer. Definitely will stop by here when in the area. read more

I tried Chillest while they had a set up at Fishcake in Kaka'ako, and it's awesome to see that they have a storefront now! The first time I had Chillest, it was at Fishcake, and I got matcha, hojicha, and haupia. That was really good - the ice is fine and fluffy, the syrups are strong in flavor and not too sweet, and - this is very important to me lol - the syrup covered all the ice. No barren shave ice! The portion was really big and the price is reasonable. More recently, I visited their new storefront in Kaimukī and got hojicha, Japanese grape, and Mandarin orange. It might seem like a weird combo choice, and that's because it was - I was sharing with a friend and we were compromising what flavors to choose lol. The hojicha tasted sweeter than I remember it being, with less of a strong tea flavor, which was a little bit disappointing. the mandarin orange and Japanese grape were pretty good, but not my favorite - the grape one tasted a liiittle bit artificial. Unfortunately, there was some shave ice in the middle that had no syrup on it, but the staff were willing to give us more! Ambiance is casual, with plenty tables and chairs for customers to sit - which is needed, because it was pretty busy when I visited! Parking is in the back of the building (entrance to the lot is on 8th Ave) but the lot is shared by other small businesses, including The Curb, so you might need to snag street parking either on Waialae Ave or on the smaller residential streets. One more thing to note is that they are cash only (at least as of July 2025). Overall, I like them and am curious to try their other flavors! read more
Small shave ice shop with some seating along the window and two tables for groups/families. A husband and wife run the store and one of their friends helps on the weekends, who are all super friendly and personable! It gives such a mom and pop vibe, especially cause they're cash only and have one big shave ice machine on the counter. They have local flavors and also more Japanese flavors like their homemade strawberry milk, kinako, and matcha. read more

My husband and I enjoyed what we ordered, it comes as a big shave ice - we liked the flavors chosen and liked how it didn't taste artificial compared to other shave ice places we have tried. Would definitely come back and try other flavors. There is a small parking lot, we parked on the street and were able to sit outside in the lot to enjoy our shave ice. Staff is friendly, welcoming. read more
CAME BACK! Okay, so today I got the limited time shikuwasa (citrus type fruit famous in okinawa) flavor and the calpico flavor. Had seats this time luckily, so sat inside. Service was excellent. Shave ice was brought to our table. I didn't realize that you can get up to 3 flavors! Without any extra charge of course. Next time I'll get 3 so I can try more flavors. Today there was a CASH ONLY sign. Not sure when credit cards will be accepted so bring some cash. Check em out! read more
I just could not wait to leave a review as I'm still seated at chillest on a hot Hawaiian summer day. Tucked away at the corner of Waialae and 8th Avenue is the "chillest" shave ice spot on the island today. Parking at the back of the building which I believe is accessible through 8th avenue. The place is slightly smaller than I would've anticipated, seating maybe only 16 or so people at once, but turnover is fast. We decided to stop by after hearing from a close friend that this is his new favorite shave ice spot and this did not disappoint. Topped with Japanese grape, mango, and pog flavors... Our shave ice was the incredibly perfect fruity combo poured over the mountain of snow. The actual shave ice is incredibly soft, probably the best I've ever had in my entire life. We will be bringing all our family friends here going forward, just a wonderful place to relax for a bit and have something nice to cool down. read more
If I could give this place more stars I would. BEST SHAVED ICE ON ISLAND me and my bestie shared one and to be honest I could've gotten my own. We got mango, strawberry milk, and cotton candy AND ICE CREAM OF COURSE (there's free snow cap). Holy moly all the flavors were so delicious. Cute cute cute mom and pop shop and the owners were so welcoming and wonderful. Support local ALWAYS. Shave ice is my favorite food and I can't believe I found out about this place only a week ago! I'm obsessed and went twice already. So this place is my new fave! Ice- super soft and the perfect texture. Syrups - super quality and homemade! Not the regular sugar sweet. If you love matcha, you NEED to get their matcha! I'm also in love with the haupia, strawberry milk, not hot chocolate. You can get snow cap- condensed milk for free. I tried azuki. Was good!!! You can choose up to 3 flavors. Cost is $6-$8. If you choose some flavors in the $6 and some in $8, the cost is $8. The shave ice is huge. You can share. But if you love shave ice like me, then don't share!!!!! The ice is so light, just enjoy it all to yourself! There's a small parking lot in the back. It fills up fast. There's seating area in the shop. Customer service is great. Be ready to wait, but it's totally worth it. The space is clean and fresh. Also, it's cash only. So be prepared. Cuz I never have cash. Good thing my kid did. Oops! Lol. I think the only recommendation is to put your logo on the green backdoor from the parking, so guests can tell they're at the right spot. :) Can't wait to go back! 07/29/25 2nd time there.. this time with my grandsons. They had strawberry, mango and ramune. Delicious. They finished it off Wow! Fluffy shaved ice and lots of original flavors. The shaved ice is so big that we had the kids share... so much to go around. Lots of options, ice cream, mochi and up to 3 flavors. It is cash only and the price is so reasonable. There is an entrance from the parking lot so you don't have to walk all the way around. Nice friendly service, no tipping b Gotta give it a try! read more
***4.5 STARS*** While our foodie group was finishing lunch, the subject of dessert came up and Auntie (aka Nadine C.) blurted out Chillest Shave Ice (CSI). I originally wanted ice cream but the business opens at 12pm and it was still 11:20am. Not wanting to wait, we all agreed on CSI. Located in Kaimuki on the corner of Waialae Ave and 8th Ave, this is the storefront that opened back in May after operating at Fishcake in Kakaako, Ten Tomorrow and craft fairs. Parking was tricky but shout out to Peter Y. who allowed us to park at his office which is a block away. To our delight, CSI was full as we arrived before noon. Initially there was only one staff serving eager patrons. He did all: took the order, collected payment and made the shave ice. It took some time for the guy to make all of our 6 shave ice to serve our group and halfway through, 2 girls came in to assist him. After snapping a few photos it was finally time to dig in. THE VERDICT: I was impressed with the fine quality of the ice and the portion is massive. You can select up to 3 flavors but I chose the Japanese grape and mango with snow cap topping. Hands down the Japanese grape was my winner. But had a bold, refined grape flavor. Amazing. The mango on the other hand, was subtle and got lost. I opted to eat all the mango first to minimize the disappointment and halfway through I saw white ice - - the mango syrup didn't sink in fully. Auntie suggested I tell the staff who poured more syrup in my bowl. I cherished the remaining Japanese grape and was sad as I took the last spoonful. I'd order the Japanese grape again in a heartbeat. It was that delicious. CSI was packed when we left. There's only one person making the shave ice so you need to be patient. It was disturbing to see two young kids continuously kick the counter while waiting for their shave ice to be made. It was not pleasant to hear that while eating and no one, staff nor their parents, disciplined them. Cash only and no tips accepted. Prices range from $6. Customize your shave ice with a selection of syrups and various topping options. What a great addition for a cool treat in the Honolulu area. I tried to bring my buddies here for dessert one evening after dinner but sadly they are only open until 6pm with the exception of Tuesdays (9pm) and Wednesdays (closed). This shave ice spot is so good. Tried the strawberry milk flavor with li hing mui and it was the perfect combo -- sweet, creamy, and just the right amount of tart. The ice was super fine and melted perfectly. Such a refreshing treat and easily one of my favorite shave ice spots. Highly recommend! read more
