My ol' high school buddy surprised me at Christmas with a gift box from this place. I live 5 states away to the North, and enjoying New Mex cuisine is beyond a rarity for me. All the products I've tried have been great. Are they exactly like I would experience in NM? No, of course, but they have been a treat for my palate. And I do say 'MY' tastebuds, because the tenderfoots around me are too timid to even try. Their hatch chile sauce has made nice GCCs for me, and been umami on omelets. Their posole mix is fabulous. Wicked hot, and made a lot, so I canned most of it to enjoy throughout the year. Hot sauce has great flavor, and you better be darned careful sprinkling their Green Chile seasoning powder on anything (woah!). I will spare you all pictures of my creations, but I know for sure that next time I go to visit my buddy I'll be bringing back more of their products home... read more

Got tired of Amazon postponing an order from before Christmas. My friends in Connecticut miss their New Mexico connection to CHILI. Chili Tradition has a great selection of New Mexico products and chili concoctions!!! They helped me ship a Merry Christmas & Happy Easter box of goodies. Ended up sending both red and green chili salsa, jelly and seasonings , along with a couple of darling dish towels. They use the Post Office for shipping...made it on Monday after purchase on Thursday. Will use again. Oh, the aroma walking into this shop! Rich, roasted chiles! Outside the shop at the very front facing the street, they sell fresh and fresh-roasted, unpackaged chiles - a great option for those living in the area. Inside the store is a mind-numbing selection of chile-related foods, gadgets, do-dads, and apparel. In addition, in a back corner of the shop, you'll find a wall filled with different-sized bags of roasted New Mexico-grown pistachios: plain salted, garlic & green chile flavored, and some other flavor or two as well. I selected a 1# bag of plain salted, and a 1/2# bag of garlic & green chile flavor to bring back to Minnesota with me. Since being home, I've tried both flavors and prefer the *very* salty pistachios to those *fiery* garlic & green chile ones. I also bought a bag of dried and crushed green Hatch chiles and a Hatch Chile salsa verde mix. I look forward to using the mix to make a batch of salsa verde sometime when I'm preparing to make a large quantity of food for several people. The dried, crushed chile I'll test in various recipes, including a white chicken chili, and a chicken salsa chili. One surprise for me at the checkout: they charge an extra $1 for paying with a credit card. read more

Good selection of NM merchandise. Glad it wasn't near downtown/old town. Sometimes you just can't deal with that traffic. Things were definitely marked up for tourists which was expected but a little disappointing (think airport gift shop or old town) I'd definitely go back though. read more

Whether you are local to NM or visiting and find yourself wanting a fun NM experience/fix be like me and make Chile Traditions a must. Super friendly staff! Today we stopped in for our annual Christmas gifts and they didn't disappoint. New nummies and fun for the NM taste buds. We stocked up on usual red, green pistachios and found new gems in the NM Crack! It's a puff sweet treat with the taste of a traditional biscochito. I left with a yearning to start my own Christmas baking, my husband said they tasted like an actual biscochito with a puff crackle. You can fine nick nacks, salsas, hot sauces, ristas, oh and drink mixes too! We're gifting the NM Prickly Pear Margarita mix and hope the family will share (maybe should have bought two, good thing we know where to find it). So stop in, smell the Chile, make it a tradition. read more

What a gem of a store. The staff are so kind and helpful. Full of suggestions. We came here to buy some green chili products for visiting family. They just don't have the good stuff in New York City! The chili crack was SO GOOD. Locally popped crn with a sweet spice flavor. It's SO DELICIOUS, I couldn't put the bag down. They have spices, sauces, dishes, souvenirs... great spot for gift shopping for those that do not live in New Mexico. Highly recommended! I had purchased several items that were shipped to me. However, one of the items exploded (thankfully in its very well protected bubble wrap). Upon contacting Chile Traditions, the sales person was helpful and said she would not only send me a new jar but also some seasonings for my trouble. Well, to my utter surprise, not only did I receive one new jar and the seasonings, but she added a second jar. I had purchased items several years ago and I had a desire for hatch chile after seeing a recent show on TV. I was very taken with the wonderful customer service I received from the salesperson. As another Yelper said, either stop in at the store (just below taco cabana on SW corner of Monty/Wyo) or if it's season, try their outdoor semi-trailers across the street (NW corner, just behind the bank/Mickey D's). Always love stopping here before my pilgrimages to CA, mom always loves getting fresh Hatch, and these guys load you up. Always a bargain, but then they invariably throw in some more. Wow! It smells so delicious here! You can find them at their store or in the corner of Wyoming and Montgomery roasting chiles in a big open parking lot. The prices are good and the roasting process goes super quick! You can choose from mild, medium, hot and extra-extra hot heat. Give them a try! Claudia thought this place smelled great.... I was a little nauseated.. Maybe because it was 9:30am.. This is the kinda place for bringing your tourist friends and family to when they are in town to stock up on chile products, decor, snacks, etc.. I came with a request from my family to get the Old Pecos red chile mustard so they could dip small pigs in a blanket in it....They have every little dip mix concoction from all the local chile places in town. They also have tons of riestras in all sizes again good for gifts. Better prices here on things than I think you'd see in the airport... Kinda like something ud see in old town but weirdly placed in the middle of the NE heights in a small little store. Good place for some NM themed stocking stuffers or little gifts for out of towners. read more

Chile Traditions. You earn a yelp beat down from me, I went into your store to buy coffee to send to my family in North Carolina and I just assumed that you were not gouging people. When I got home I noticed the price which was double what the going rate is for pinon coffee here in Albuquerque New Mexico ! $15 a bag is absolutely ridiculous!! Highly Recommend Chile Traditions! In an effort to support local small business, we purchased some frozen green chile to be shipped to our son in PA. We went to Chile Traditions at 8204 Montgomery and received outstanding service. We also purchased a red chile ristra and a ristra wreath as well as a few extra items to send to our son for his Christmas gift. They knew when to ship it to arrive in plenty of time and said it was guaranteed to arrive in top quality. Through no fault of their own, it was delayed several days in travel and ended up thawed and messy. We contacted them and, without question, they shipped a replacement package which is scheduled to arrive today. This type of customer service should be rewarded and they have our business for life! Unfortunately they do not have many locally-produced crafts other than ristras and food items, but I think that's because there aren't many available. Very friendly employees and owner. Today was the first time I have entered this store and I'm very confident that it will be my last. If there was an option to leave no stars, I would. It had nothing to do with how I was serviced because my service was superb. A fine lady named Trina helped me and my girlfriend find all of the goods we were seeking and walked us through the store. She is very helpful and professional. She deserves a raise. My conflict started as we were purchasing our things and my girlfriend decided to pay for everything which came out to a little over one hundred dollars. A fine purchase indeed. We made an arrangement prior to entering the store on who would pay and my mother would pay the money back to whoever it was that paid. That being my business and my business only. Or so I thought. I see Ken, the owner of the store, make a comment on who "should" be paying the bill insinuating that I should be paying for everything without knowing our prior arrangement. I have never experienced someone to just barge in on my business and make a rude comment. From the owner no less. Even if someone is having a bad day the last thing an owner of a store should do is take it out on his customers. With that being said, I will take my business elsewhere. read more
