The first day of lessons included a tour of the piano and showing how the inner workings move to make sounds. From the very first month Joel incorporated extra activities with the sound mixing equipment and learning the basics of a few pop songs, not just sticking to the piano books. My kids have also tried guitar lessons for teens and the group rock band for little kids. We appreciate the option to try different things and to have remote lessons if the weather is bad (or whatever reason).

My mom brought my violin to this place to have it repaired for me as a graduation present…read more My violin has never played like this! I am so impressed with the quality of the repair. Not only does my violin sound better than it ever has, it's easier to play too. They also did some cosmetic work, and it really does look much nicer. When we went to pick the violin up, we returned our rental and we were greeted with an opportunity to go to a practice room and test it out. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful, and I could really tell that they cared about my satisfaction with the repair. They also gave me great care advice when I asked. I'm so thrilled to have my violin sound so nice and for it to be so well taken care of. For any string instrument repair, I would extremely highly recommend. I am sure their lessons are top notch too, though I haven't experienced for myself.

We have been going to Parlando for piano lessons for four years. Without a doubt, the faculty is…read morethe best in Boulder and the administration is supportive and great to work with. I have been able to experience Parlando as an adult student and as a parent of two children students. The lessons are well balanced and keep everyone engaged. There are games, theory, composition but also rigor. I wish every learning opportunity they had was so well balanced! There are opportunities for recitals, competitions and achievement day. As a student myself, I learned the importance of l playing music in front of others as a part of my education. While it was out of my comfort zone, I developed musically because of it. I appreciate the opportunities for my children that Parlando provides them as musical students.

Here is a few things awesome things about Parlando. - The teachers, we've had an incredible teachers at Parlando. They've been positive, progressive and really interested in making the learning experience great (more about them below). - Registration is easy, efficient and online. Parents can even select convenient recital times for their children online. - Last year, Parlando decided to offer a free group lesson to all private piano students. So students, every month meet different students, perform and get feedback from a different teacher. As importantly, the students and the teachers exchange ideas and build community. Great for inspiration! - Parlando has a really nice way of offering children at least two public performance opportunities a year. These recitals are optional but encouraged. The philosophy there is low key very supportive performances that get kids use to being comfortable playing in front of others. - On a broader level, Parlando provides a lot of scholarship, does outreach to schools, provides outreach and music experiences for disabled people and is a really positive force around the community. - The pianos are in tune, practice rooms are basic but have everything you need, parking at the Dairy is free and we've never had trouble finding a spot. - The cost is comparable to other instructors, and early bird registration provides a further discount. - The monthly newsletter is great and provides info about musical opportunities around Boulder County. - Finally Travis LaBerge, the founder, director and a teacher extraordinaire is super nice, reasonable, professional, public spirited and just a class act in every way. His upbeat presence permeates the organization. Teachers. Elizabeth Leger has taught my daughters piano for two years. She's just awesome! Very friendly, very intuitive about . She mixes pop and classic, teaches improv, has a positive reward program, makes sure children have a solid backing in music theory. She's very familiar with several different pedagogical approaches coming from Canada, Japan, the US. She herself is an incredibly accomplished pianist. Last year, when she was receiving her masters in piano performance from CU, she invited all her students and performed excerpts and then explained and showed her students different parts of the piece. Super patient and positive with every level from beginner to experienced. Devon Park - horn instructor - Besides being a very accomplished musician i.e. performs with the Opera Colorado, Boulder Phil, Greeley Phil as well as various other performing groups around Colorado, Devon is an incredible teacher. He's incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He really builds on student's interests while at the same time gently filling in gaps and exposing them to new ideas. He's got a great sense of humor and people feel comfortable around him. Whether it is fixing a student's horn, lending them multiple CDs to compare different performances, providing historical context for a piece, describing the evolution of the horn, Devon is an absolute treasure of a master teacher!!

My son has been taking piano lessons with Maria for about 5 years. He started when he was 6yo, and…read moreI loved how Maria encouraged creativity from the very beginning. My son was so proud of his first "song" that he composed! Over the years, Maria has taught him the obvious logistics of playing piano, as well as how to perform for an audience, how to create and maintain a gig list, etc. I think more importantly, Maria has also taught my son an appreciation for the power of music. He takes a lot of pride in his performances and his ability to play. Like most middle-schoolers, my son isn't the most motivated student but Maria finds a way to encourage him to stay on track without overwhelming him. As a family of five, we appreciate that most of the performances are casual ("come in your soccer gear if you need to") and that we can usually reschedule a lesson when we have a conflict.
