He threatened her telling her that she had to go to the hospital and the were gonna put her to sleep and strap her down to a table to examine her. Of course that made matters worse. He then stood up and grabbed the papers off her chart and tore them up right in front of me and her. He told me my daughter was out of control and needed to be sedated in order to be examined. I did take her to GBMC and they treated herwithout a problem. She was not out of control but did everything the doctors asked. Please do not take your child to this man.

I sought a second opinion with Dr. Repka at Johns Hopkins after having a mediocre experience with…read moremy daughter's pediatric ophthalmologist in York, PA (where I lived before moving to CA last year). It's only a 25-30 minute drive south to the Wilmer Eye Institute and our experience with him was phenomenal. The wait time was never long, 10-15 minutes max, which was important when bringing a one-year-old in for appointments. They have a separate waiting area for kids with toys and books, and all of the nurses and Dr. Repka have an excellent rapport with kids - not just my daughter, but her big brother (who was 5 at the time and worried about his little sister's upcoming surgery). Dr. Repka immediately affirmed that my daughter needed to have surgery and scheduled her a few weeks out. He was very reassuring to all of us as we approached the surgery and especially the morning of, when we had to be at JH's surgery center downtown. Both parents and big brother were allowed to wait with her in the pre-op area prior to the surgery. The surgery was successful and we had three great follow-up appointments. At the time of the third appointment, we told Dr. Repka we were moving to San Diego and he referred us to several of his colleagues for continued care. I just wanted my daughter to have the best care possible, and was very glad I made the decision to see Dr. Repka. There is not one thing I would change about the experience with this doctor or the Wilmer Eye Institute.

I chose him because my sister (a nurse) has been going for years, and recommended him highly; and because of his professional expertise. From the moment I met Dr. Chu, I was so impressed. Everything about the entire experience was truly professional and first-class, including Dr. Chu's staff and state-of-the-art equipment. Dr. Chu's expertise and experience speak for themselves - he's brilliant and skilled, yet kind and even humble. He educated me about cataracts, and later performed cataract surgery on each eye. So I went to another eye doc, who was a crook. Suddenly I was developing a new eye disease every time I went for a check up. Went back to Chu, only to find out I did not have any of those eye diseases. So, back to Chu, who over time has become very short tempered, impatient and rude. He did my cataract surgery, which went fine. But if I have more than one or two questions he becomes very disagreeable. My distance vision since cataracts has NOT been corrected by glasses using his prescriptions. Last he told me there was nothing he could do and walked out of the room. If there is a vision issue, the doctor should want to find the problem and correct it. He did not. So, no more Dr Chu. Whenever I had an appointment I did not look forward to his moodiness. It has gotten worse over the years and many of his staff acknowledge this.

Did vision training with Dr. Cohen, after going to a number of doctors (including others who did vision training). My vision stabilized, problems disappeared (no more eye strain). And it's been stable for over 25 years now. He's also easy going. Good at communicating. Good with kids (some were doing training at same time). Patient. Informative and answers questions. And best of all, he knows what he's doing medically. He kept up on research, integrated it into his practice, didn't pressure you to use anything, but offered ideas that others were not yet able to. He offers low vision solutions for special situations as well as the basics. My eyes are super sensitive to small variations (eye strain when off), and he figured that out, respected it, and does things to accommodate it. Other doctors didn't figure it out. Also in the exam he asks "1 or 2 or the same." So you never had to guess, and can always just say "the same." I've been seeing him ever since. My prescription has now been stable for at least 8 years, I and minor changes for a long time before that.
