I have two children; both have attended Community Montessori for a few years now…read more Since it is a smaller school (at least as compared to public school) and because students generally have the same classmates year after year, the children get to know each other and get along very well together. There appears to be a true sense of community in the classroom, and both my kids are happy and comfortable here. Both of them really do enjoy going to this school, and I believe that is due primarily to this community atmosphere. Academically they are also doing well. Montessori education was not a system I was familiar with before my children enrolled, but it seems to be working well; I am very pleased with their progress and even more so with their interest in learning. Really, though, I believe the learning environment is far more important than the teaching method. In my opinion, kids can learn through Montessori, traditional or any other education system so long as they are in a supportive and comfortable environment. Community Montessori provides this well.

I find that other Montessori schools are very heavy-handed and assume that children will attend Montessori school all their lives, but the teachers/facilitators here instead prepare the children so that they can thrive in any environment. Both of our children could read before kindergarten and are doing advanced math because of the atmosphere of learning here. After graduating from this preschool, we still return often for social events because the atmosphere is warm and family-like.

We had some concerns related to this location after reviews surfaced online of abuse allegations at…read moreanother Lexington Kindercare, as well as allegations that the director at that location was aware of said abuse and was moved to the Wilhite Kindercare location. It was the day before my son started that we received notification that said director was resigning for "personal reasons." Take that as you will. As far as our personal experience, we did drop off and were able to take my infant son to his room (this is not the normal Covid policy: they wanted us to drop him at the door). When I walked in, there were two babies at the entrance of the room: one lying on the floor (not in a boppy or on a blanket, but on the floor), with an older child sitting up beside her, looking down over her, with snot running out both sides of his nose. I made a comment about the snot to both the director and the worker, the latter of whom was sitting across the room. It was the director that finally wiped the snot off as my husband and I looked horrified. We left, feeling like this was not a good fit for us, based on the the combination of abuse allegations and level of engagement (or lack thereof) of staff with the children. I returned at 1200 to pick up my son. I explained my concerns to the Asst. Director, who was apologetic, and waited for her to retrieve my son and his things. We were pulling him completely from the daycare. As I waited, the training she'd been completing on her laptop was still playing--and it was a recording, I believe, of a person talking to (I'm assuming) a group of Asst. Directors and Directors about "how to get more children in the door without having to hire more staff." This, I feel, sums up the mission of Kindercare. It showed in our experience. Again, we will not be returning.

This was our first experience with Pepperhill. I have a 12 year old and a 9 year old. We have…read moredone summer camps before and this was our first time at Pepperhill and I chose them because they offered swimming, fishing, horseback riding, archery, and games. They have a camp video on their website and it showed the children having an amazing time. That being said, I was disappointed. This camp is expensive and I did not feel I got my money's worth *pay attention to the NO REFUND policy*. My 9yr old was a "junior" and loved Pepperhill. They had activities and swimming scheduled every day. My 12yr old was a "grad" and they are granted more freedom to pick and choose what they want to do during the day because they are older; they also went on field trips. My 12yr old spent most of the day helping the younger campers or doing chores around the camp. As a parent, that didn't upset me because it teaches them responsibility. What did upset me was that I was paying MUCH MORE for my child to do what I felt the counselors should be doing. Now, the tuition for a "grad" is more because they go on field trips (movies, skating) and BIG trips (Holiday World in Indiana), but you are not eligible to attend the BIG trips unless you enroll in all three weeks of the session. Pay attention to this because when I enrolled I was very excited for my child to get a chance to do white water rafting, but because we had a family memorial and did not enroll in one of the weeks, they were not eligible for the BIG trip that session, even though we attended the other two weeks. I will not be sending my children back to this camp based on the fact they are way too expensive and and I did not feel I got my money's worth.
