It's a beyond Five stars because my stomach literally filed a gratitude report! If you have never tried buche, do yourself a favor and stop living in the shadows. Buche is pork belly, slow-cooked until it becomes this tender, savory magic that somehow tastes like comfort and rebellion at the same time. Chila's nails it. The buche taco hit me with that rich, juicy flavor that says "yeah, I took all day to cook... and you're welcome." The pollo burrito was a heavyweight champion. I honestly question anyone who calls these "the best tacos ever". The food was so bad, I ended up throwing most of it away. We ordered several carne asada tacos; a couple lengua tacos; and a carne asada burrito. The meat was so dry and overcooked, it was honestly like eating a beef jerky taco. Here's a tip: Carne asada is not supposed to be crunchy! The only saving grace were the onions and cilantro, which helped mask the flavor of the horrible meat. I had to practically choke down the burrito; it was dry, crunchy and completely over salted. Honestly, the worst burrito, and the worst food overall, I've ever had, and I've eaten the Omelette from MREs! (Hey, if you know, you know.) My wife and I lived in San Diego for 30 years. Being that close to the Mexican border, we've had our fair share of amazing Mexican food. We've even found a couple of amazing Mexican restaurants here in Ogden and surrounding areas that serve some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. (Lupita Taco, I'm talk about you!!) I just don't understand the 4 star+ reviews from others. Nothing about the food was redeemable. Absolutely nothing. At this point, Del Taco has this place beat, hands down. Gross. I had a decent taco, but one was supposed to be chorizo, it was only chunks of fat. Disgusto.

Street tacos. In a building. Pretty much a win for everyone involved. This is a little jewel nestled downtown and I was surprised I hadn't run across it before (thank you Yelp). Once I found it it looks to be an old house or business converted in to a taco shop. There's some seating inside and the smells are amazing! Two ladies in the kitchen cooking like mad and I knew I was in for some tasty treats. I tried 4 different tacos to see how they would stack up to what I love and for the most part, they were impressive. The asada was perfect. The lengua was perfect. The carnitas was perfect. The only miss was the al Pastor which was a little mushy and a different consistency. The flavors weren't great on it in my opinion either. CHILAS!!!! Oh Man! A Diamond in The Rough! At first glance, it looks like someone bought a house and turned it into a small restaurant. We walked in and walked straight to the back counter where the menu was. We ordered there and sat down. Quickly realizing we should have just sat down straight away and ordered from our table. Haha oops. Embarrassing but whatever, we had no clue and I'm not entirely sure anyone who works there spoke English. But don't let any of this scare you away, the food is SO GOOD! Street Tacos are $1 and SOO BOMB. Loaded with meat! Toppings are at a "topping station" so help yourself! Tortillas are homemade and delishhhhhh Albondigas Soup reminds me of my Great Grandmas and is PERFECT for a cold day! Chile Relleno was Yummy as well! You can tell the beans and rice are homemade, they aren't anything special but are good nonetheless! If you're looking for AUTHENTIC & HOMEMADE Mexican Food then look no further. Trust me when I say, this is the real deal! This may be my favorite taco place here in Utah so far. This lil ma pop shop is authentic. Their tacos are legit! When I step foot into this shop, it reminded me so much of hole in the wall restaurants back in Southern California. The ladies are friendly, and the food came out fast. We had the pleasure of trying their Carne Asada, Brisket, and Chicken tacos. The tortillas were perfect, and dressing it up however you like with their salsa bar. Chila's Tacos is one of those rare and special finds that we hope to come across everytime we try someplace new. Chila's Tacos is so good that I breifly considered not reviewing it, to keep it the secret awesome joint (it was not even listed on Yelp until today!?)...but, that's not the Yelp spirit so here's the very first review. You'll be pleased to know that they've been authentic home cookin' for over 2 years now and crushing it amoung the local Hispanic community. I think Chila's is the best no frills kickass taquerria and Mexican restaurant in the region...Down to earth family place, that makes their own corn tortillias, ample choices of protein and you dress it with the assortment of daily ready fixin's, so we can adjust the textures and flavour profiles just the way I/you like it. From out of town and was craving authentic street tacos. They were so nice and patient with my order because I literally wanted everything. I have not Tried other taco places in the area but I would definitely come back to this one! Tripas tacos - were nice and crispy, a little over cooked but nonetheless, I devoured these Asada tacos - perfectly seasoned Cabeza tacos - sooo good!!! Carnitas tacos - not my favorite out of the four but glad I tried these. Small, unassuming spot with only a few tables. We took a group and tried a variety of food. Everything was really good. It helps if you speak Spanish or bring someone who does. Otherwise bring your patience. You order from your table, but there are no printed menus. The menu board tells you the types and prices of tacos. Then it tells you the other things they make like tortas and Chile rellenos, but no prices are listed for them. Carnitas torta has avocado which was a nice touch. Homemade thick tortillas very good. Menudo was horrible. It smelled like sewer water. I returned the menudo because of the terrible smell. Then I ordered chillaquiles . It took way too long for them to be done. When I receive them they didn't come with egg which they are suppose to. I told the waitress that it was missing egg and she stated she knew that and gave the incomplete order so I can start eating. The eggs came out almost 15 minutes after receiving the chillaquiles by that time the entire meal was already cold. Terrible experience. read more

Went on a day trip to Ogden to purchase some used equipment I found on KSL. And of course we had to check out the local eats. Found this spot on Yelp thanks to the lone review by Daniel L while searching for a local spot open on Sundays. I'm grateful that he shared his experience because I never would've found this unassuming house-turned-restaurant tucked deep in an iffy residential neighborhood. We ordered a cheese quesadilla on a corn tortilla for my toddler. It was huge, but pretty standard. My husband had tacos and the costillas (pork ribs) in red chile which was one of the daily guiso (braised meats) offerings. Good, not great. While the al pastor and chicharron tacos were decent, the taco de cabeza was definitely the stand out. Would return just for that. I ordered the menudo (only available on weekends), and the chile relleno filled with cheese. Menudo was offered with or without both hominy and pata. I got it with both. I ordered a small but it was actually quite large. The broth was slightly bland and watery. The corn tortillas that came alongside were homemade and pretty tasty. The chile relleno was the standard poblano stuffed with mexican cheese (panela maybe?) capeado and bathed in tomato sauce. Not greasy and without the distinct flavor of dirty oil that I've encountered with some chile rellenos. All of that food, plus 2 large house made horchatas for under 40 bucks!The service was great too. The very young waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and patient.
