I wanted to write a review of my recent experience at Chief mainly because it was an excellent experience, and also because my piercing was a life-changing event. Long story short, I was an 80s kid who discovered piercing and tattoos through the book 'Modern Primitives' back in 1989. My first piercings were done by a woman from the book who I had to send a written letter to Oakland in order to schedule! Needless to say, things were more 'primitive' back then and I eventually took them out. 35 years later and I'm at Chief Piercing with their EXTREMELY friendly staff, simple appointment booking process (with several reminders), and their very comfortable office, which was necessary because I felt like a kid waiting to get their vaccinations at the elementary school office circa 1975! Before my appointment, the personable receptionist walked me through everything (jewelry requirements, aftercare, etc.) and then I had some time to meditate in the waiting area until they were ready. My piercer, Jess Rose, exuded a friendly and supportive presence as I went in, which helped because I finally realized what I was about to do and was rather scared! Jess moved through the procedure slowly and with compassion so I felt very at ease. When it came time for the procedure, I was guided through each step of what was happening. Because of my earlier piercings, I had scar tissue which intensified the pain and the experience, but Jess led me through each step, especially emphasizing when the 'bad' part was finished! This was what created the life-changing part, knowing that someone was aware of what I was feeling and helping me through it. Once it was complete, I felt like a new person and am still celebrating taking my body back one step at a time. This will probably be my only piercing as I'm more focused on tattoos for the future, but I will return for new jewelry after I'm healed up. Absolutely LOVED my experience at chief piercing. Britt is extremely patient, kind and professional. I had questions about placement and had a hard time making a few decisions -- she never rushed me or pushed me to make a decision, but instead provided me with options and information. She was extremely knowledgeable, sanitary and talked me through the process with care. I will be back again and continue to refer to my friends! In fact, my best friend has already been in within a week of my piercings to get pierced by Britt. Not to mention, the ambiance of this place is AMAZING. Wow, what an awesome place so clean and neat and great staff. I brought my daughter here to get her ears pierced for the first time. She was very nervous. I had some piercings that were done poorly at another shop and found out they had used bad jewelry. My ears were so inflamed and painful so I came in to Chief to get the jewelry changed out and assessed for infection. The vibe of this shop is so great. Britt was very sweet and helped me pick out some cute titanium jewelry and was so gentle with my poor ears. She assured me that I was just having a reaction to cheap metals and that they weren't infected. The piercings are much less painful now and are healing better. A very cool location, love the vibes here, but very expensive!! I spent over 600 on jewelry and piercings that would later become infected over and over again. One eventually closed, which was so sad! The other two I ended up switching out for real gold that I purchased and cleaned my ears and they healed up just fine. My ears are ultra sensitive and anything can trigger a reaction. The earrings have to be solid gold or sterling silver earrings. I was told that they only use the best there and it's 100%. My ears were not healing or feeling it. Bring your own jewelry, better that way. The jewelry here is way too expensive and you get charged for every back piece to shorten or make longer of your ears swell up. read more

I came here for a septum piercing in May. Absolutely the best piercing experience I have ever had. Brittani did such an amazing job accommodating me being a lil anxious. She felt/looked around for a bit before telling me her plan. Shop was super clean and you can see where they sanitize everything. I watched her take out all freshly sanitized tools and sanitized the jewelry as well. They even gave me a little bag of sea salt to use for cleaning! My favorite part was their jewelry selection! Five star experience at Chief Piercing. Upon walking in, I was greeted with smiles from two associates. Doug, the counter manager immediately helped me with what I needed. I told him I wanted my Tragus pierced, so we looked at the wide array of jewelry choices. After completing the paperwork, I had some time to enjoy the ambience in the waiting area. Decorated in earthy tones, it was a very welcoming vibe. Display cases housed various jewelry selections. Additionally, the mirrors and artwork on the wall added a charming touch. The music selection was off the hook good. The general vibe of the place and staff was awesome. The actual piercing is done in another room--very clean and organized. The piercers ensure a clean and sterile working environment to protect their clients. Katrina, the chief piercer, worked on me. I observed her to be a kind and gentle individual whose entire aura has a calming effect. She guided me through some breathing exercises as she completed the piercing. Her process is very calming. Such a great experience getting my Daith piercing earlier today! My friend had been researching places in Sac for us to go to, since she wanted a few ear piercings (and I wanted to try the Daith as a migraine reliever) and she came across Chief Piercing on Yelp. With 5 stars and over 300 reviews, we were sold and have absolutely no regrets. Most of the other places we saw were tattoo/piercing spots, but this one is solely dedicated to piercings only which was a plus. On Fridays, they're open from 1-8pm (walk-ins only), so we grabbed lunch before heading over. Don't get confused about the location, since you have to walk into what looks like the salon entrance and up the stairs to get to it. It was already pretty packed when we got there, but the guy at the front helped us fairly quickly and we filled out the paperwork, chose the earrings and signed in straight away. It was a 2hr wait, but they call you before your spot comes up, so we were able to go to a bakery nearby and even get a pedicure while waiting! The piercings on average are about $40 and they offer a wide variety of jewelry to choose from (mine was around $40 for the piercing + $40 for the earring). I went with a standard gold ring with an opal jewel and my friend got a couple studs and some helix rings on her cartilage. Before our turn, someone came over to review the aftercare process with us and gave us 2 bags of salt. The healing process for my Daith is 4-6 months and they recommended a salt soak once a day for 2-5min for about a month. After a month, they recommend coming back to them so that they can check on how it's healing and provide additional instructions on cleaning with soap/oil from there on out which is nice. I don't think I've ever been to a piercing place that does something like that. Katrina the owner ended up doing our piercings and she was very professional and friendly. On top of that, her voice is super calming and she walked us through the whole procedure and answered all our questions. Within a few minutes, we were done and on our way! Overall, I'd highly recommend this spot if you're looking to get a piercing anytime soon. I'll be back in a month to check on this piercing and who knows.. This was by far the best piercing experience I've had. All staff were highly professional and welcoming throughout the whole process. It's a first come, first serve basis so we came in and it was a little crowded after opening at 1pm. We found ourselves to be 6th place and waited about 2 hours before being seen due to the groups before us having multiple people. The piercing process itself was smooth and the piercer was extremely calm and talks you through the process. Extremely sterile and well sanitized process. I got a double helix and my friend got a double helix plus a conch. Friend said everything went smooth and great for her too. I met Katrina over a decade ago at Sub Q which hasn't existed for years. After they closed their doors, the piercing industry was so obsolete in Sacramento until Chief Piercing opened. My co-worker went here & thats how I heard about it. Before discovering this place, I ventured down south & started getting piercings down there. Long story short, I've been having issues w/ my first lobe piercings since I was a child. Came in & thought I'd have to re-pierce since it always becomes infected/irritates. Katrina reassured me that I'd only need to "stretch" the hole instead. I trusted her guidance & even got my other 2 holes in both ears stretched as well since they were either done w/ a gun or I did it myself! I now have all 6 holes total stretched in that one initial visit. I've had them in for over a month now & not one issue!! I've been wanting a conch piercing for a few years now but was skeptical since moving back here in 2012. Today I decided to go back here to get it done since my lobes took only a couple days to heal from the stretch! I've already 11 piercings total in both ears but damn did this piercing hurt! At the top of the stairs, it wasn't clear which way to go but I peeked right and saw a reception desk with a jewelry case and it seemed like the place to start. They only do piercings and I like that. It instills confidence. There were people around the area speaking with Doug. When he asked me how he could help me, I didn't really want to say with all these people within earshot but-- I want to get my nipples pierced. I picked the jewelry. Doug gave me paperwork to fill out, some of it was premature because it was things I was going to go over with the piercer so I initialed it anyway, brought it back to Doug with my ID and waited. While I waited, I received aftercare instructions along with two baggies of sea salt. When my time came, I met Katrina. So calm, nice, welcoming.. professional. My jewelry went into a machine for cleaning and while this was happening Katrina drew points on my nipples. In time, she could see if there was movement of those points.. you know how it gets when it's cold. Everything was a go and Katrina put paper down where I laid. She talked me through the breathe in and breathe out and yeah it hurt but it wasn't really bad. The second nipple hurt more than the first. She let me know when I could take a look in the mirror and when we first spoke upon entering the room she told me people love their nipples pierced and I couldn't agree more. It felt weird and I was afraid of snagging on something but after the first night equipped with all the knowledge of aftercare and that it's there-- It was good. There is a follow-up visit you can just drop in and your piercing can be checked if it's been healing properly. Also, if you want to change your jewelry, they'll do it for free if you buy their jewelry or $5 if you bought it elsewhere. Decided to come back to get my lobes, my tragus, and my helix pierced as well, and brought my youngest sister for her first helix. First of all, the service here is phenomenal. I feel like tattoo/piercing shops unfortunately have a sort of intimidating aura most of the time, but not Chief Piercing. When I'm telling you this is THE place to get pierced or buy jewelry for your piercing you should listen to me. I've been to a list of piercing locations over the years collecting piercings like Pokemon, I've been pierced by some of the best in the Bay, regardless this is the shop I will be returning to. Britt has a phenomenal bedside manner, she explained and walked my husband and I through our piercings with the sweetest most angelic calming voice. I had gone to another shop in Sacramento to get a floating navel done and had a rather unpleasant experience, they said I should lose weight to get one and they didn't feel comfortable doing it, without actually checking my anatomy. Britt checked it and informed me honestly, that it might be a pain to heal but if I wanted to go through with it I could. I never once felt like they were trying to upsell me on more expensive jewelry like a lot of popular piercing studios do, trust me I would have happily purchased some expensive pieces, that's not to imply their starter jewelry is ugly either! I even went in with the game plan to get a tragus done as well but was advised against doing additional piercings with a long healing time so my body could focus on healing just one piercing. This is the only shop that I have ever been to that genuinely cared about healing progress, asked me to follow up with photos, and that I could reach out if I needed any help. The front desk girl Tay is so calm and sweet, I had emailed with her prior to coming to the shop to ensure they had the proper jewelry I needed, when I explained what had happened at the other piercing studio she told me I could come by to have my anatomy assessed before booking an appointment. I didn't even expect to get pierced today because they are an appointment based shop, they worked us in with no issue and I really appreciated it. I really don't know how a business owner could treat a paying customer so horribly. I reached out to Katrina to make an appointment because after despite following all the after care, my piercing was not healing. The first time she double booked me and just cancelled my appointment. After waiting so long for an appointment and for it to be cancelled there was no apology or explanation! Other times she said to follow the after care on the website to which I answered and told her I've been doing that with no success and practically begged for an appointment. After that my messages to request an appointment have gotten ignored. I even asked if we can do a virtual appointment if she's busy. It has been 10 months of my sending emails and calling. At this point I am very disappointed and very sad in Katrina's professionalism and customer care. I will not be returning here and reporting her to the better business bureau. Katrina is the only person now I trust with any of my piercings after having such a horrible helix experience at a local tattoo & piercing shop. So far she has done 4 of 9, and I plan on getting around 5 more throughout the next few years, hopefully all done by her. All of her piercings have healed beautifully, no irritation bumps, infections, and minimal pain. She is appointment only, be prepared to book a month or two in advance. Pricing is reasonable, a bit more expensive than your tattoo shop which charges 30/40 for both piercing and jewelry, whereas she charges and average of 40 plus jewelry which is an average of 30-40. You can go for a more expensive option for jewelry too. Despite this though, I think she is 100% worth it. read more

I love the people at Chief Piercing; they're friendly, kind and professional. The space is welcoming and serene and they have a great selection of jewelry. This past July I came in to see about a nasal piercing after thinking about it for years. Once I chose my jewelry and waited for just one client ahead, I went in and lay down on the cushy massage table. The person doing the piercing walked me through the process and while she was calmly talking, just seamlessly pierced my nose. My eyes immediately filled with tears but just for a second. Reviewed 4/12/2019 I came in here for a piercing.... I was referred by a regular of theirs (and a patient of mine) who knows Katrina. I walked in and asked questions to build my courage up. We wandered the block until I was ready to commit. We went in and did all the paperwork and they said about 20 minutes. What felt like an hour later, a couple walked in, got their service, checked out, then everyone disappeared. They close in about 45 minutes. We waited about 20 more minutes. It was like we were invisible.... my excitement and anticipation turned to great disappointment. Pretty devastating really when it's something like this. We left and went somewhere else. I was weary to get my helix stretched, told everyone I'd only had the last piece of jewlery in for two weeks and when the piercer went to stretch it it tore and had me punching and kicking on the table. The piercer asked me a second time, on an angry tone of voice, how long I had the last size in and I said two weeks. She LAUGHED and said the usual wait time is a month and a half and then accused me of LYING to the display woman, even though I told them both the same story and had them both inspect my ears.
