Good, pretty authentic. I am yet to find a place that has the semi-bitter soy sauce that I grew up on in Japan.

The food was good, but portions were small unfortunately.... Flavors were a bit more muted than expected. Duck garlic noodles were the yummiest. We also got nasi lemak (not pictured) which had really good sambal on the side. Chicken satay was solid, but nothing special. Overall, I'm happy to see a Malaysian place on the Peninsula but it's definitely catering to the MP population (which is fine)! Just won't be my go-to when I'm craving Malaysian food flavors.

New location is much larger! Menu has gotten a bit easier to read. Decor and styling is a bit more modern, trendy, and bright. Nice to see that they have brunch sets that come at a slightly discounted price -- drink + main + appetizer. Did wish the portions were a bit larger however, but Menlo Park rent is expensive so maybe that's why? Quite busy on a Sunday morning, we had to join a waitlist and waited for ~10 mins. Seats are nice and cushioned. Convenient parking lot across the street. Char Kway Teow (4/5) -- revising my prior review, this was much better! I tasted a bit of the wok-he smokiness and it was sweet as well. My friend says he wished it was more smoky. Eggs + Kaya toast (3.5/5) -- pretty standard. I actually wanted to crack my own eggs, but that's just a me thing! Eggs were a little over cooked, but still delicious. Kaya toast could be a little crispier but the Kaya jam was very good. Hard to get this dish wrong! Nasi Lemak (3.5/5) -- Egg looked fried, but didn't really taste it. Wasn't bad but nothing really stood out as well. Coconut rice could have been maybe a little bit more fragrant but still good. Wished there was more beef rendang. Hokkien Mee (2/5) -- this one made me a little sad because this is one of my favorite dishes! Egg noodles didn't look the same, was much paler than expected. Didn't come with any sambal chili sauce at the side, so it didn't have much flavor as is. Came with shrimp and octopus. Calamari Juice (4/5) -- Not bad! Pretty good, but don't think I'll be craving this

We kept it small and intimate (12 people) and Michelle was absolutely fantastic with answering all my questions and making sure everything went smoothly. We reserved a portion of the outdoor area with a few dividers, and the staff were kind and accommodating. The family loved the food - in fact, it was the first time I had seen my mom eaten so much in a very long time. The noodles were my favorite :) We had come here a few times before and all were great times, but very special shout out to the staff here. We tried the sea bass which we had to ask to give back because it was really not what we expected. The fish filet itself was dry and did not taste fresh, it was very different than what was detailed in the menu and there was a broth under the filet. I don't know, we just weren't expecting a fish soup. Next, we tried the crispy pork and mie goreng with high expectations, and instead we were disappointed yet again. I think we will try to explore other Southeast asian cuisines. Thank you!

We've had more authentic Burmese cuisine in SF but this is fine for Palo Alto. Service was good and attentive. We had: Salt and pepper tofu Palata with vegetarian curry 6 piece samosas (good) Tea leaf salad (disappointing) Fiery tofu and vegetables Eggplant and Garlic (good) Jasmine rice Coconut rice Garlic noodles, bbq pork Chicken Home style fried rice (ok) Lamb Kebat (good) Lamb wok fried with tofu Steamed vegetables (mostly cabbage with sliced carrots & broccoli) Beef curry (good tender chunks of beef but the curry didn't taste like curry). Cocktail drinks are pretty good but just know that some drinks are small for the price. The best drink is the coconut one with coconut rum. We had mango ice cream for dessert which was a very generous portion but the ice cream was on the icy side and not as creamy as I hoped. It tasted decently good though.

Unfortunately, there were problems with every dish: 1. Extremely small portions: The basil chicken and mango chicken portions were ridiculously small. Around 80% of the container was just onions, and the containers were only about 70% full. For the price, this is unacceptable. 2. Almost no chicken in the garlic noodles: The garlic noodles had literally only two tiny pieces of chicken. I cannot believe I paid almost $3 extra to substitute pork with chicken and received basically no chicken at all. 3. Unbelievably salty: Both the garlic noodles and basil chicken were so salty that they were inedible. I had to rinse them with water five times, and then re-cook them myself just to make them edible. I've never had to do this with takeout before. The food wasn't just disappointing in terms of flavor and portion size--the biggest issue is that it feels like the restaurant is being extremely stingy while still charging fairly high prices. Poor portions, excessive salt, and very little meat. Definitely not worth the price, and I would not order from here again.

When we arrived we were told that there are some sauces that may include msg but the server would let us know which dishes had those pre- made msg based sauces. Appetizer- grilled eggplant was okay Fresh spring roll with shrimp was good The satay chicken was okay. Basil stir fried vegetables had mixed reviews- I thought it was okay while my wife liked it. The drunken noodles were good. Chicken pad Thai was good. Lemon grass chicken was okay. The coconut home made ice cream was tasty. There was cold air from the front door every time someone came in or went out of the restaurant. They had plastic water glasses and that threw me off as it's a nice restaurant in Palo Alto. I chose the shrimp red curry with mango, which came with rice, a salad, and a wonton. The order arrived quickly, and the staff were nice. I started with the Thai iced tea, which was decent but lacked flavor and seemed a bit watered down. The meal itself was better than expected. I was pleasantly surprised by the wonton, which was crunchy and slightly sweet. The salad was very plain and seemed like it might have been prepackaged, with only a small amount of dressing. It could have used more dressing, which I think would have improved the flavor. The red curry was good, with enjoyable flavors and plenty of mango chunks. I really liked it. The portion size was just right, and I left feeling satisfied. The restaurant is clean and pleasant, making it a good option for a work or family meal. I would return if I were in the area and craving Thai food.

With the onslaught of…read moreexceptional restaurants in the area, the issues this place has are even more glaring; this is not the Castro of old where you can just phone it in. Let's start with the food - it's good not great. Thai food is generally known to be affordable and good value. This spot definitely isn't going to be saving you any money to offset less than stellar quality. If there were no other Thai options, it may be ok, but the Bay isn't lacking in quality Thai food. Most dishes are bland and dare I say pretty Americanized. Sadly, the food is the best part. The service is really and I mean really bad. Even when it's empty, they are still slow and don't seem to care at all. Complete antithesis of what you may be used at Thai restaurants. The atmosphere is mid. The place hasn't really been updated much over the years and it's starting to show its age. Overall, it feels like Amarin is stuck in the past and everything has just come at them fast. What may have been able to pass muster a few years back when Castro was a sleepy street in a quiet and boring suburb is no longer good enough.

The pad thai was packed with flavor -- the noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce had a nice balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors, and both the chicken and prawns were cooked really well. Even though it was catered takeout, everything was packaged carefully and looked fresh and appetizing when I opened it. Nothing was messy or spilled, which made the experience feel much more high quality and organized. You can tell they put effort into both the food and the presentation. Overall, this was a great catering experience for a work event. It's always nice when catered food actually tastes fresh and flavorful instead of rushed or bland. I would definitely order this dish again and would be happy to try other menu items in the future.
