This has been my go-to DoorDash spot for lunch, and I've ordered from here many times before. Unfortunately, this time was a big disappointment. I ordered the Mongolian beef as usual, but it was extremely spicy--way beyond what I could tolerate. It has never been this spicy in the past, and there's no option to select a spice level on the menu. I'm not sure if the ownership changed or if there's a new chef, but something is definitely different. I used to really enjoy their food, and this was a letdown. During that window--whether it was from the very start or after a change in kitchen personnel--you could absolutely taste the pedigree. The concert is over. It appears the true masters of the Sichuan universe have, once again, packed their bags and their wok-skills and departed. The Culinary Crime Scene: Suanni Bairou The most egregious offense on my latest visit was the Suanni Bairou (Sliced Pork with Garlic Sauce). I've ordered this restaurant from doordash and the food was usually pretty good but prices were a bit higher, but I actually came here one day to eat with a few other friends. Before we even ate, we were impressed - the menu is astonishingly big, the ordering online was easy, the communication about our order was well done and the packing of our food was better than any others we've picked up from other restaurants. We tried the potstickers (excellent, but needed more spice in the filling); green onion pancakes (nicely done if a bit oily; the dry green beans - excellent; the hot and sour soup - excellent; the cold noodle salad - loved it; Chinese chicken salad - also excellent. Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house no food in the fridge not even a sprout. I called Fey as it was still open in hopes of filling my tummy with nothing frozen. I ordered the beef tofu with great care but disappointed the beef was mediocre to even share. The tofu and sauce was pretty tasty but the rice on the side was rather hasty. It was dull and dry, not soft and fluffy it didn't leave an impression and made me huffy. In the past we got charged a service fee AND we always added an additional tip. If you really knew that and recognized us you'd know that statement is false. To be demanding us to pay a "suggested tip" - noticing the word suggested and yelling at your customers about having to leave one is absolutely unacceptable. You are even accepting you charged us a 18% tip due to consistent no tip in the past. Which is completely false BUT even to set the example for other customers you are stating that just because a customer doesn't choose to pay a tip (maybe due to financial reasons or their experience or etc.) that they can expect an 18% service charge no matter the size of the party the next time they visit your restaurant ?? I ordered food to go one Saturday. When I called the person that picked up said she couldn't take any phone orders because the boss wasn't there - totally out of the blue. When I finally ordered through snackorder or some other electronic ordering system, the order went through fine. Delicious! Very authentic Chinese food and large portions for the price. They have lots of dishes typical of Chinese home cooking that you wouldn't usually see in restaurants. I would recommend their stir fry snow pea leaves, Chinese yam, pork knuckle, and fish fillet. They also have a Sweet Soup Mochi dessert soup which has glutinous rice balls filled with black sesame paste in a rice wine soup. Must haves are the dry-cooked string beans, pot stickers, green onion pancakes and the general chicken. Order chow mein and fried rice and it will last a few meals. You get a lot of food.
