I'm very happy that we happened to come across this new restaurant while walking through the City Market area. The food options all looked good but I settled on the Chicken & Waffle (I did the 5 piece). It came with one small waffle and crispy & tasty chicken tenders. The counter service was very friendly as was those who brought the food to our table. We enjoyed the outdoor seating as well.

From the owners of Taste of Brazil two doors down comes Chicken Please; nuggets, tenders, wings, casserole... all things chicken. The decor blends in well with the casual eclectic City Market by having large cable spools serving as table tops inside and outside along the sidewalk. I opted for the 6 piece nuggets and fries for $7. The large pieces of chicken were juicy and tender, fries crispy and the honey garlic sauce for dipping was a great condiment. Zero complaints; I will return to sample more of the menu...

Small chicken shack in the City Market. The staff is friendly and the food is made fresh to order. The menu features fried chicken, chicken fingers, waffles, fries, etc. The chicken fingers and fries had a great flavor, were juicy, and well seasoned. The value is good for what you get. During the week you can just pull inside and park. On the weekends you'll have to park in an outside lot.

Exterior. Very cool tables that are like large wooden spools. Has a farm/barn aesthetic ~but in blue~

I'm prefacing this with the fact that I have high standards for wings. I sit Chicken Please at 3.5 stars (I rounded up to 4 cuz I'm nice) only because for a place that specializes in chicken, I just expected to be blown away by the wings. If you want to just grab some food and go, this place is FANTASTIC. Go during weekdays before peak hours because they can get pretty busy and seem short staffed. I'm very excited to have this new spot in River Market and hope they do well. There was a vibe that this place is targeted towards a more yuppie crowd so I expect it will thrive in the months to come, given their location. From my experience, the best aspect of these wings was the batter for sure. The chicken was moderately juicy and the sauce itself is pretty good - I only got to try the honey garlic. They mark their sauce spice levels with little peppers on the menu which is cute, but their spice scale is mild overall. They'll also offer your wings to be tossed or separated from the sauce and I ordered mine tossed. It wasn't really evenly distributed and the bottom of my wings were bare. The fries on the side were bomb and crispy. Price wise, I got the 4 wings and fries for $8.87 and left feeling full. I think it's a fair price point.

My son had a hankering for fried chicken, this did not disappoint. You get half a chicken and fries for $12.95, cooked fresh and served piping hot with crispy skin. Whats not to love?

Weak! I waited 15 minutes for tiny Cornish hen size chicken leg and wing. If there isn't a line at the city market on a Saturday lunch, there's a good reason why, we wasted $10 on soggy fries and tiny chicken

Chicken isn't crispy and not seasoned. Fries-luke warm. Chicken thighs extremely dry.

So like Joe K said, it's great to see more Korean chicken places in the Kansas City area. (S)KFC is…read moreamazing - the crispness of the chicken, the fantastic sauces. It's special. I'm excited just thinking about it. But oh man was I hoping for better. And I think this place could get there, if they can change some things. Joyce and Brandy laid it out well, so I'll just echo some main points: - The food could be better. Apparently it has been before. What I saw felt pretty low effort, the crispiness wasn't there. (South) Korean Fried Chicken is amazing because even with those delicious sauces, the chicken stays crispy. Best of both worlds! These wings were soggy. I didn't feel great after eating the meal. It wasn't ideal. - The service was nonexistent. I came up to the human at the counter, who directed me not to talk to her but to put in my order on the screen to the side. I hate these. I hate them so much. The UX on the terminal was clunky, the navigation in particular was so bad that there were whole sections of the menu that seemed to be missing. I now know to swipe left on the headers to scroll right to a second page of root-level categories, but be honest, just reading that in a sentence is confusing and annoying. Some people may like kiosks. That's fine! But mandating them is awkward and obnoxious. - I'm still on the service. There's a big menu. There are paper menus. There are little signs advertising fun looking items. I already know what I want. It is so much easier and more enjoyable to order with a real human and get their help. Why put the added friction of learning a clunky interface? An employee would be fluent in the system even if it's bad. And if my case is any indication, it's not helping their sales. I would totally have ordered more dishes if I'd known that was an option. It just looked like they were out so it wasn't available. - After putting in the order, I was prompted for a tip for the service. Which just felt like a coup de grace to my psyche. - It felt like there was no heart here. That's probably an ownership issue. I'm sympathetic to a point, it's not easy in general and there's a lot of pressure to cut costs (especially with the tariff arsonist disrupting supply chains). But the vibe here was dismal, you could feel it in the food and the staff. The space itself seems set up well to have large groups and good times. Could be a fun spot. But right now, the impression I get is that aside from the wings the kitchen does a lot of prepackaged instant food. So I'm not sure what they're trying to be - a decent wing place, or more of a fast-food/gas station type of spot. A vending machine with a deep fryer. Like I said before, this place has potential to be great if they can change some things. They're just going to have to want to. I'm rooting for them.
