Stopped here following my son's baseball game. The ambiance is small town USA restaurant in rural community. Which I really enjoyed. The restaurant was decorated in multiple chicken figures and pictures. A farm like feel. The service was prompt and personal. For appetizer, we selected small plate of fried onion rings. They were delicious. Our family then ordered fried chicken and chicken strips. I had a side of mashed potatoes with white gravy. My other side was a side salad. I only have pic of my plate. The chicken tasted fine. It reminded me of how chicken was cooked/fried by grandma growing up in the 80's. It really brought back good memories. Although the chicken I had was good, I think I would order the chicken strips. They were cooked similarly but seemed to have more meat. Their desert list consisted of at least a dozen homemade pies. I chose a custard pie and was pleased with it. I would recommend it for families looking for home style cooking. Enjoy!

You just can't get food like this in Wichita.

Southeast KS has the best fried chicken anywhere and my favorite is Chicken Annie's in Girard, KS. The chicken tenders I had today were the best I've ever had. The german potato salad and slaw were also top notch as always. And their onion rings are 100% perfection. Service was spot on perfect, food was piping hot. Ambiance is old fashioned country style restaurant with about 1500 ceramic chickens! A must visit place!

On our way to Kansas City and stopped here because of the reviews. Service was great, very country home feel. Wonderful staff and patrons. We had the onion rings and fried mushrooms for appetizer. The onions rings are perfectly battered and delicious. Main course of fried chicken and chicken fried steak. The fried chicken was very crispy and tasty. German coleslaw was excellent but the German potato salad was not. Mashed potatoes and gravy is thick and creamy. It is in the middle of nowhere but overall good home cooked food.

Love it. We go every couple of weeks and pick it up for guests. Love when we can get pie for desert.

My wife and I journeyed to the Pittsburg, Kansas area to judge the chicken war for ourselves…read more Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's have been rival fried chicken restaurants there for decades. Our first stop was Chicken Annie's. The next night we went to Chicken Mary's. Both were very good in many ways. Service at both was efficient and friendly, but our server at Mary's was the most exceptional. Both restaurants have an old fashioned family eatery vibe, but Mary's was just a tiny bit nicer. At both restaurants the water had a slightly unusual off-note that was also noticeable in the iced tea. Both restaurants offer white bread from a well-known local Italian bakery. Honestly, it was no more special than any grocery store white bread. At Annie's it was fresher. At Mary's a bit stale. My wife tried the German potato salad at both and proclaimed Annie's far superior. We both had green beans at both restaurants. Both were very good. My wife liked Annie's the best. I preferred Mary's. Strangely, neither restaurant had real butter as an option, only the chemically "whipped spread" so my baked potato was untried. The star of the show is supposed to be the chicken. Portions were generous with both. The breading at Annie's was crustier. The breading at Mary's was flakier and lighter. The chicken at both was moist, but even juicier at Mary's. For this reason my wife and I agreed that Mary's was the winner of our contest. Many people have told us that one or another of these restaurants has "the best fried chicken I've ever had." Honestly, we can't agree. The fried chicken at the grocery store deli near our Roeland Park home is just as good. We have found the Brookeville Hotel in Abeline, Rye on the Plaza in Kansas City, and Stroud's in Overland Park to be infinitely superior to both Annie's and Mary's.

While travelling to Kansas City, I decided to stop here for some Fried Chicken goodness. While the contests had to pick a winner, I must say that I really enjoyed the chicken offerings from both places. The chicken was well prepared, juicy and the crust was delicious. You cannot go wrong when having food from here. A five star experience!
