Brûlerie Café Crème - Iced americano

We were looking for a local coffee shop, where we could get a pick me up and a pastry. I looked at…read morethe menu online before going and was excited to see they had a gluten free slice of cake and cold brew. When I arrived, the young lady working behind the counter was extremely pleasant. She was also patient with my need to speak English, as french is the dominant language. Unfortunately the cold brew was out and she offered me an iced americano, which I accepted. Truthfully, I really wanted to like it because she was so sweet but I really didn't care for it at all. It was completely melted and there was no ice left, by the time I got to the car. It was also vanilla, but I didn't care for the syrup they used. Second, they didn't have any gluten free options for sweets. She mentioned that sometimes they have a gluten free brownie but they didn't that day. It was very disappointing. My husband got the last chocolate croissant, so he was happy. I wouldn't return to this coffee shop but I'm sure others had a more positive experience.

Independent - and very different - coffehouses in the Montreal area - 2 of 2…read more I knew I would be spending some time on the South Shore, or Rive Sud, since I was staying there. I'm always on the lookout for new and especially independent coffeehouses. I found one with a name I liked that I could walk to. I thought I would try it. I was expecting Café Europeens to be inside some sort of a strip mall or inside something like the square concourse which wraps around the transit terminus. The map didn't exactly describe it for me. As it turns out, it's inside Place Longueuil, a major shopping center with anchors. Wouldn't you know I would enter the mall from the most distant entry point? Café Europeens is a warm and welcoming sort of place, both in terms of the atmosphere and the service received. One of the interesting things here is all the drawers or cubby holes for many different types of tea. I very much liked that. There is a fair amount of seating inside and, while I wouldn't know if so during peak times, it seemed to be sufficient. The tea I had was good. The big cookie was very good. I only had that because I would be walking into Longueuil-Vieux (the old town) immediately afterward to look for a pizza dinner along Rue St.-Charles. The prices were very much in the ballpark. This is the sort of 4-star coffee place I'd come to rather willingly and I'd be curious to try it in the morning or during the lunch hour. Café Europeens is actually on the more southerly side of the big mall, near a mall entrance, and close to the parking lot. That said, is it bad luck if you walk out of a place other than from the door with which you entered? I believe there are cultures and ethnicities that believe that or hold that in their inventory of what not to do. That said, there is plenty of parking here and it's a but a little ways on foot from the Longueuil-Universite' de Sherbrooke Metro and transit terminus. However, if on a crisp peak color autumn day, I'd definitely be hoofing it over here on foot.

Consider this a premium craft roaster, but without the pretencious decor and staff. Great knowledgeable staff and owners. They have an impressive selection of coffees ready for you to bag, grind -- if that's your thang, or keep those precious whole beans ready to bring home. Just keep in mind there's no drive through nor outside seatings. They are also located just on the inside of the mall entrance. Makes it a little harder for coffee runs.

I ordered my raspberry and custard danish to pair with my Americano coffee... but I also wanted something more substantial so I went with the pancetta. Well, I thought I was ordering the pancetta, when I pointed at the item with the sign for it, it was actually a ham and cheese croissant...but until they served it I didn't know that's what I had pointed to. When I questioned it that it didn't look like pancetta they said that people always mix that up... I guess maybe they ought to display it differently, but they happily made me the pancetta and I took it to go because at that point I had already bit into the ham and cheese and that along with the danish and coffee, it was enough for then... They didn't charge me for the pancetta! That was NICE, so I gave them an extra tip in the jar, because they were very gracious about it. The danish was very good and went nicely with the coffee. I enjoyed my window seat overlooking the street (until the bee came....) Later, when I went to eat the pancetta, I unwrapped it and found it to be barely filled with any meat, but certainly plenty of greens. It wasn't pleasant, so I didn't really take but a couple bites before throwing that away. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, if that's how it normally comes. Overall I'd go again and order the danish and coffee. The ham and cheese was actually pretty good too. But I'd be careful on the pancetta.. maybe it was a one-off situation.

It is located in a very nice area with a beautiful market near it which is perfect for walks, especially during the summer. The coffee shop itself is beautiful, very nice seating area and a lot of space. It is perfect if you want to study because it's very cosy, but it's also good if you're grabbing lunch quickly or coffee on the go. I have tried their smoked salmon sandwich and a kale/beet salad which were both very delicious. The only issue I had was the price, I thought it was a bit pricier than other coffee shops or places where you can grab lunch quickly. Despite that, I can understand since it's a local coffee shop and everything they have is high quality and fresh. Their iced coffee is more of an iced cappuccino with crushed ice... So if you want something liquid like coffee with ice, I would recommend getting an iced latte. It was delicious, and they had a lot of options for people like me who are lactose intolerant (almond milk, soy milk, lactose-free, coco milk, oat milk, etc.) The staff is extremely nice. They're very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. The first time I went there, the girl explained everything to me and how the café started and she looked very passionate which showed me that she liked her job. The only issue I'd have with this place is their opening hours. During the winter, if you're planning on late-night studying there, it doesn't open as late as other coffee places, but that's to be expected with local coffee shops like this one.
