I found this place by accident and it was such a pleasant experience! The staff were very friendly and accommodating when we arrived and gave FANTASTIC recommendations for food and drink. My son's Spanish teacher recommended this restaurant to him because we have never had Peruvian food before. We arrived and were seated immediately. We told the server we had never tried Peruvian food immediately she gave us suggestions. She also let us try a sample of fruit drinks made in house. We all loved the passion fruit juice and ordered that for our meal. We then ordered a mixed ceviche, seafood paella and grilled chicken with potatoes. All the food was amazing. The seafood fresh, the chicken seasoned perfect, even my picky 14 year old loved all the food. We finished the meal off with a churro and ice cream. I highly recommend this place. read more

Simply the best Peruvian food around! Everything is fresh and delicious (especially the seafood)! We tried the lomo saltado and the paella. The paella is definitely a must-have; the seafood was exquisitely fresh and tender and the taste was spectacular. The bread is fresh and delicious as well! Our favorite place to stop when coming back from Tahoe. The food is so fresh and delicious! If you're lucky enough to be driving close and like Peruvian food this is a must! Located in a strip mall right off the highway, it's a sweet surprise when you go inside to find a colorful, spotless restaurant with such nice people working inside. I can not express enough how AMAZING EVERY SINGLE PLATE and EVEN THE DRINKS WERE. We had the purple chicha drink and the passion fruit one. We ordered the beef heart antichuchos appetizer and the flavor was PHENOMENAL, especially the salsa. We also got the Lomo saltado a la Antigua and again the steak marinade was out of this world. Have you ever been to a business where they seem to cater to certain clientele and then the food ends up coming up short? Unfortunately, this felt like one of those places. We were excited to find another Peruvian place in Roseville, and couldn't wait to try it. To beat the crowd on a Saturday, we headed there at 11:30. We were seated right away. We thought that service would be quick as there were only 3-4 tables with a few diners and two servers. Once we were offered water that's where the service began to lag. I get it. Restaurant service isn't what it used to be, but for a relatively new restaurant you would think they would still have a sense of "drive". Ten minutes in, we finally placed our order. A few minutes later, a Spanish-speaking family of 3 came in and were seated next to us. They barely sat down before their order was taken and their food came out in under 10 minutes. We were like...WHAT?! How can that be? And it wasn't like we got our dish right after theirs. One person even had an issue with his dish, sent it back and got another before our food arrived. While we were still waiting, another couple was seated and got prompt service. During the "waiting game", neither of the 2 waitresses checked on us or filled our water, yet they had no problem checking in on certain tables. I hate pointing that out, but it was obvious. After waiting almost 30 minutes for our food, we were hoping for redemption. However, that was not the case. The Leche De Tigre seemed to have sat in the lime juice way too long that you could hardly taste the calamari, octopus, shrimp, and fish. The fried calamari was the only tasty part. I ordered the Salmon Costeño and hubby ordered the Aji De Gallina. Both dishes were nothing to rave about. Hubby said both dishes tasted like they can be made at home with an online recipe, and I have to agree. And yes we were still nice to the staff and finish what we could. But, we can't help but point out our negative observations in this review. Overall, we won't be coming back for more. read more

I would've never known about this place if I wasn't looking for best restaurants near me. It's tucked away in a corner space and is a little hole in the wall looking spot. Don't judge it till you try it. It is super cute and clean inside. My waiter was very nice. I've never had Peruvian food before and everything on the menu sounded good so I asked the waiter to just order for me. I'm so glad I did. The food was amazing! This little gem is definitely a date night spot.... We walked in and the first thing I saw was the mural on the black wall. Next to it was bright ropes hanging down like beads in the early 70s! We were greeted and seated right away. When we arrived there were only 2 others seated. Minutes after we were seated our waitress came over and dropped off Peruvian bread and butter.. But this butter wasn't your normal butter.. It had garlic and I tasted rosemary. Bread was nice and warm. I ordered the Salmon Costeñ o and my boo ordered the Pescado a Lo Macho. I also got a Peruvian cocktail as well as fruit punch drink. The cocktail reminded me of some strong wine... Tough review for me to write. As a confirmed lover of ethnic cuisine over typical suburban burgers, brewpubs, and the marginally more 'dressy' places with similar menus (think Bennett's, 105 Noshery, Chef's Table, etc.), I wanted Chicha Peruvian Kitchen to knock my socks off. Well, it started that way with the appetizers - the wake-me-up tartness of the Pimentel Ceviche (ahi with a creamy/spicy/zesty Peruvian sauce) was terrific, and so full of fish. Next time, we'll go with the mixed seafood version, though. The beef hearts anitcuchos were also excellent for those who relish in offal meats. Just outstanding, both in texture and taste! When choosing the main entrees, I dismissed the paella, since that's what I always got at the currently closed La Huaca, and I wanted something different. Instead, I chose the Pescado A Lo Macho - whose main star was a deep fried whitefish, accompanied by calamari, mussels, and clams, served aside a heaping mound of garlic rice. The ingredients were nice and fresh and plentiful, and the garlic rice was about as good as it gets. But as a whole, it was a bit bland. The slightly creamy sauce had no bite, not distinguishing flavor, but was just....well....'nice'. That pretty much sums up my wife's Espaguettis Con Fruto Del Mar, the Peruvian version of bouillabaise. Again, great morsels of seafood and pasta, again, nothing distinguishing it in flavor. I would've expected some spice or sauce components to 'shine through', but not really. And my daughter's Espaguetis A Lo Macho (Vegetariano) also had the same bland taste, and not even any interesting vegetables (asparagus seemed to be the only noticeable highlight). One of the things I really wanted to try was some of the Corn Aguadito, a brothy rice and corn soup that apparently comes as an add-on to their lunch specials. They also have small pork tamales at lunchtime which I wish was available as an appetizer at dinner....but no, only at lunch. There are enough other menu items I'd like to try, so we'll go back again. We'll try another type of Ceviche for sure, and maybe the Yucca Fritas and Lomo Saltado. Or maybe during lunch service just for the soup and the tamales! Decor and service were all excellent. Interior was colorful and festive without being over the top. I'm still determined to love this place - eventually, and chalk up my lack of exuberance to not having ordered the right things. I'm determined to love this place yet!! read more

I have been here a handful of times. Each time I get a ceviche. So delicious! Recently, I got to celebrate a birthday at this location with 7 of my eclectic group of friends. Evelyn answered questions we had about the food & drink selections. She checked in with us periodically and made certain we had what we needed. The windows are west- facing and they pulled the shades down just before the light/warmth got too much and brought them back up in time to see the sky as the sun was setting. It is clean and has examples of Peruvian artwork. I felt momentarily transported back to Peru (visited back in 2002).
