I came across FreshWay Fish at Reno's Saturday Farmers Market. I normally stick to buying produce at the farmer's market but FreshWay Fish blackboard sign listed they had Poke'. This stopped me in my tracks and I knew I had to try it. The lady behind the stand greeted me with a display of iced packaged smoked salmon and prepackaged containers of Poke'. She had two kinds of Poke' left...Spicy California style Poke' and traditional shoyu Poke'. At $10 for an 8 oz. container I was sold and took the risk on the spicy California style Poke', and I am so glad I did. I paid for the Poke' and the lady was kind enough to bag the Container of Poke' in some ice for my trip home. I ate some of the Poke' at home on top of steamed rice with a sprinkling of furikake. So good! The Poke' was delicious, fresh and buttery and was bursting with flavor from the Poke' marinade of siracha mayo, garlic, onions, tobikko and sesame seeds. I'm so happy to have found FreshWay Fish! The customer service is absolutely fantastic. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and personable. I ordered fresh tuna, salmon, and two of their house made poke mixes and WOW! Plus, they deliver locally! Yay! Everything was super fresh and scrumptious! Also, since wild salmon season ended, Sarah called me and highly recommended the ocean farmed Salmon and she was spot on! I pan seared it and then put it in the air fryer for a few minutes to finish cooking the center and holy cannoli, that was the best salmon I've ever had! Stopped by today to pick up some fresh fish for 'fish friday.' Nancy (nice lady) offered fresh halibut. Got a nice fresh halibut fillet and some scallops. Thus far we've tried their fish, specifically the salmon twice, given that finding wild caught salmon is no longer in season. Their is wild farmed via the woman selling at the Farms market in Martinez this past Sunday. The issue with anything farmed is what is the animal/fish being fed, for how long & environmental conditions; all of which effects the final food product. In comparison to Scottish farm raised salmon the FreshWay product was much less fattier, thus a better product unless you prefer a buttery salmon then you want Scottish. The absolute best in regards to farmed salmon is Skuna Bay, but again it depends on your preference, what you prefer about the flavor & texture. So for off season salmon, farmed FreshWay maybe the ticket. read more

Really cannot express how much our family loves SMOKED KING SALMON from Freshway Fish, but if I say we will be/are #Customers4Life... perhaps that helps to translate (Big Grins). During my first visit there, saw all the smokers out front and the aroma was just incredible. Since they're not a regular retail store and most of their business is either by delivery, farmer's market, or mailed directly via subscription, when we visited their (931 Washington Blvd, Roseville - (located on the backside rather behind the PLACER SPCA) wholesale location, it almost felt as if we had a new SECRET place unknown to most. One of my best friends, Derek, told me about their smoked salmon and highly recommended it bc he tried it at the downtown farmers market and instantly fell in love with their smokey flavors... To be upfront, so far we have only tried their two flavors of salmon - however, they also have steelhead trout, halibut, as well as seafood including Dungeness crab, ahi tuna, calamari, scallops, and giant prawns... You should also know, it's a small family owned and operated business - so they have a lot of pride and are passionate about what they do, with this in mind.. if you enjoy smoked fish, definitely consider this family's recipe for smoked fish... rarely do I want to try everything on the menu... but this is one of those times. Been going to Freshway ever since we moved to Folsom and started the farmer's market last year. Today we bought steelhead salmon, (a wonderful half steelhead half salmon fish), halibut, swordfish kabobs, and homemade smoked salmon cream cheese spread! We did not get the prawns since I'm allergic to shellfish, and now pregnant can't after the fact have the swordfish. Last year we bought from a gentleman who told us they went to Alaska the day before and caught this fish. Which me being in the Air Force I was stationed in Alaska for three years, totally believed him. First of all the fish did not smell fishy at all which means it's fresh and secondly it tastes as fresh as when I was in Alaska and the taste is there. I thought he told us that they practice the fishing that is limited amount of fish in a net like Wholefoods does. The fish tastes that much better since not under duress. But don't quote me on this part, going on memory from last year! Wish I could remember his name. I asked and told him if he knew those fishermen that are on TV in Alaska. Yes he said he knows them, how cool is that! They even offer a punch reward card for $10 off. Today at the Folsom farmer's market we bought from Paula who had excellent customer service and said to contact them from their website to get reward credit since she ran out of cards. Can't beat real fresh Alaskan fish. Not sure of most is from Alaska, but the halibut and salmon is to my knowledge. Steelhead, prawns, scallops etc. not sure. We'll be back Freshway! Best smoked salmon I've ever had like a bagel and lox party in your mouth. Tip, they run out of things like ahi poke and other items so better to go to the farmer's market earlier. read more

Cherry wood smoked, it was fresh (they were smoking it there at the Roseville location). The "store" is hard to find because it is in the back of the strip mall, and there is no signage. The "store" consists of a guy sitting at a table eating MacDonald's. My Wife is from Alaska and she says the King Salmon is the first fish she has had in the lower 48 that comes close to the stuff she used to get out of Prince William Sound! If I could give this place zero stars I would. I purchased a piece of Chilean sea bass at the Carmichael farmers market on Sunday and it was bad. I took it out of the plastic and it smelled like ammonia and decomposing meat. The flesh was slimy and the fluid in the plastic was milky. It was a disgusting waste of $12.71 for ONE fillet. Use caution purchasing fish from this vendor at farmers markets. It clearly was not handled properly and could have caused terrible illness. read more

Great food, nice people! I buy it at the farmer's markets in Grass Valley/Penn Valley/Nevada City. I love the spicy Ahi poke the most -- with the regular ahi poke a close second. The California poke and the Smoked poke are also tasty. I'll mix it with diced cucumber and mixed greens for a hearty salad. I've bought steelhead trout, halibut, mahi-mahi, and of course their signature smoked salmon. Today I got to taste their smoked steelhead trout right before it sold out. I never miss a chance to pick up fresh fish at Freshway each Saturday at the Tracy Farmer's Market. I love, love, love how their fish is so fresh. It seems that it must have just been taken out of the ocean the minute before your purchase. I especially love the King Salmon and the Halibut but whatever you pick up at Freshway is guaranteed to be "Oh so good". My Mom is so picky about fish and has really missed fresh fish since Race Street Fish closed in San Jose but she is AMAZED by how fresh the fish is at Freshway.
