Another great experience at Waffles, 1400 S Michigan! Thank you! Shout out & accolades to Diamond, for her warm welcome & stellar service. It's always a pleasure to eat here as the food is served hot and nicely presented. Pro Tip: the breakfast tacos, see pic. Just amazing! And with spicy syrup? What a great twist! NB: 3% charge for credit card so bring cash to avoid it. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm sad to see the less than stellar reviews. I've eaten here at least 10 times over the years & it's always been nothing but fantastic. I've reviewed it previously but this one is from March '26. Give it is chance, I just don't see how it would disappoint. Thank you, Patrick
I was looking for a breakfast spot while I was in Chicago and waffles sounded perfect. A little too cold for outdoor seating, but if you're in the mood, they offer outdoor seating. Plenty of seating indoors. Colorful artwork on the walls. Full bar. Nice variety of waffles to choose from on the menu. I ordered a pumpkin latte and the pumpkin waffles. Latte was a little small, but tasted good. The pumpkin waffles come with a scoop of pistachio ice cream on top, with a dollop of whipped cream on my plate. Delicious. The waffles were warm and crisp. Very happy with my choice. The staff were good; did their job well. Walked here from the hotel, so can't say much about parking, except that there is paid street parking right in front of the restaurant and across the street. So if you're looking for waffles, I recommend this place. Good for families, too.
This is a nice chill place to eat for that comforting ambiance and decent food. We were seated right away with no wait. I don't know if that's usually the case for the morning, but I did go during the Hot Chocolate Run, so Michigan Ave was closed off the traffic. Our server was nice and accommodating. They didn't have anything that was directly vegan, but he directed my boyfriend on what he should get for a vegan meal. I also was able to add blueberry compote to my original Belgian waffles, which I loved. I also got a side of bacon. I left having enjoyed my meal, but I wasn't full, and I do wish the food came out a bit warmer. Overall, I'd go back!
I came here with a group of friends. The menu is quite extensive with a lot of sweet and salty brunch/lunch items, so there's something for everyone. We got the waffle flight which came with red velvet, liege, chocolate and matcha. They were all quite good. They were fluffy and not too sweet with nice toppings. However, everything else was just okay. The meat lover's scramble and the omelette were solid, but nothing special. I got the shakshuka, which was more like a broth/soup than a shakshuka. It was a little odd to have poached eggs floating in broth. I would probably stick with the waffles if I come back here. The ambience of the place is very lively and the decor is quite eclectic and colorful. It's a very cheerful and bustling place. The service was pretty fast even though there were a lot of people that day.
Chicago Waffles has SO many options for breakfast! There's something for everyone. I had the Hungry Man, which was a waffle sandwich with stuffed with a an omelette (egg, cheese, turkey sausage, red pepper and onion). I chose this because it was one of the only menu items served with fruit. The filling/omelette was AMAZING. The waffle on the other hand was pretty dry, and didn't have any flavor. The fruit was good and fresh. My mom had the egg white chicken omelette. It didn't look very appetizing, but she enjoyed it. It was full of chicken; they weren't stingy on the meat. It came served with potatoes and a side of pancakes. Potatoes were really good! Like the waffles, pancakes were dry , a little flavorless and not very fluffy. They likely came from the same batter. Service good - they had a packed house but we were able to get seated outside pretty quick - which was nice except an aggressive bee hovering over our table basically as soon as our food arrived. My guess is he was attracted to the syrup (but of course that's not their fault). Our waitress was very nice. Prices were reasonable. Overall, the food was okay. Though I was disappointed with the pancake and waffle, with the amount of people there and the constant takeout orders, I assume it was just a bad batch. I'd go back to try some of the other things on the menu.
Chicago Waffles - Brunch Review Weekend brunch at Chicago Waffles can get extremely busy, so if they allow online reservations, that's definitely the way to go. On our visit, it was raining and since there's limited space inside, the waiting area quickly turned into a bit of a chaotic crush. It was loud and packed, but our waiter Chad handled it with grace--he was kind, and apologized for the delay in getting our food. Honestly, with how swamped they were, I can't blame him. Once the food came out though, it was worth the wait--absolutely delicious! You can tell this place would be a total gem if you catch it when it's not slammed. I'd definitely go back--just maybe on a weekday.
It was more of a 3.5 dining experience for me, but bumping up to 4 because of the service. I had some time to kill between appointments at Rush across the street and thought breakfast for lunch (not brunch ha!) sounded good. There is a lot of seating inside and it has a fun vibe thanks to the bright posters and art on the walls. The menu is large with plenty of sweet AND savory options. However, if you're a vegetarian who doesn't want something sweet or something eggy, you're going to be hard up for something to order. As much as I love waffles, the waffle options seemed way too decadent for what I wanted at lunch. You can get a regular buttermilk waffle, but it was pricey for what it was. I ended up ordering a veggie omelette and was pleased that it came with homefries and toast, so I wouldn't have to order them a la carte. The omelette was well-made with the eggs cooked to a perfect consistency, but could have used some more flavor. The veggies weren't mushy (which is easy when you're not paying attention). The homefries came in this little basket that looked like a mini fryer basket. It was cute, but hard to add sauce consistently on top. They were seasoned well enough and nice and crispy, but there was an odd flavor to them. It seemed like they might have been cooked in animal fat or in the same pan as meat. If they are, they need to disclose that for folks who don't eat meat. I opted to only eat a few. The toast wasn't pre-buttered, but at least the butter on the table was spreadable. My server was prompt and friendly without being overbearing, considering there weren't many customers. They also kept me well hydrated by filling up my water frequently. Given the food and the questionable taste/cooking method of the potatoes, I found it to be overpriced. I will find a different spot next time I'm in the area.
Chicago Waffles is a great casual spot for a breakfast or brunch and comforting food! The servers are very friendly and the waffle options are endless. They have a huge menu and so many fun options like the breakfast tacos and waffle breakfast sandwich
Sabine was a great server, her recommendations were on point. Delicious food and great music.
Great service and food! Went here after my 5K race due to the location. I ordered an expresso martini and the short rib skillet. The drink was delicious! The skillet was seasoned well and the short ribs were nice and tender. Luckily despite it being busy my friends and I were seated not too long after arriving. I enjoyed my brunch and definitely will be back.
The food was delicious! Our server Sabina was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some pointers on having savory and sweet for breakfast. The food came out pretty fast as well. It really seemed like it was all hands on deck. The team was helping each other out to give a great service. The place is well decorated.
This is absolutely awesome place with great ambience and kool vibe. Service was very attentive and personal. Food was exceptional for everyone's taste. Definitely a place to revisit any time you are in the area. And its dog friendly. Highly recommend

Follow up on previous review, didn't allow me to comment again. Instead of taking accountability, you suggest to "read the menu". I've added a new photo of what I ordered on uber eats, NOWHERE does it say CHOPPED steak. Even in the event that it did say that, you all sent BURNT CRUMBS so either way it was a terrible experience. I would suggest you take a moment and read your own listing on uber eats before responding. No one is expecting a full cut of high end steak for $7 BUT one would expect skirt steak for $7 (as you have listed) which is a super thin cut of steak for that price. Money isn't the issue here. I paid for exactly what I wanted in that moment. If I wanted a good steak I wouldn't come to a Waffle House, I would get SKIRT STEAK from a breakfast place if available and I've NEVER been served crumbles in place of skirt steak. Like how exactly is someone supposed to eat burnt steak crumbles??? Anywho If you would've simply apologized for a bad experience I would've considered visiting again but nah I'm good love. Best of luck to you all! read more

3 stars at best My friend wanted outside patio seating which they have but its not 6 feet apart It's laughable you literally on the path of walking pedestrians We lucked up and patron were leaving we got a more secluded spot The place wasn't packed so I don't know the reason our waitress was MIA when we were ready But she asked us for our orders as soon as we sat down if that counts *rolls eyes Apparently they didn't get the suggest protocols like plastic forks knives and spoons and takeout disposable containers and properly disinfectanting the tables Luckily my friend was ready and wipes down our own table properly and has to request plastic disposable everything The foods lacked presentation and taste and too expensive for what your get My red velvet pancakes were decent my veggies omelet was overcooked for my liking and home fried potatoes too darn crispy Nothing stood out wont be back read more

The food was unseasoned and so was the service. I asked my waitress for a cup of hot water and she brought me a GLASS of hot water. I couldn't even pick it up. I order the Maple Bacon Skillet and it was LOADED with grease. I couldn't even eat it. read more

Hi Venetta, we are really sorry to hear this! May you please provide…
This place was right across the street from an airbnb we were staying at so we decided to try it out! Everything was great, from food to service to ambiance. We were seated right away and the staff was very welcoming. They have a combo option that allows you to get half of any waffle or french toast along w egg, meat choice, potatoes and toast for pretty cheap! The potatoes were seasoned well and cooked just right, easily my favorite part of the combo. My boyfriend and I were shocked at how fast the food came out as well which was nice after being hungry after a long day of traveling. We actually ended up returning here once again for breakfast before we left! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area without a second thought! read more

I'm not sure why it took me so long to try this place - but it was a hit! Extensive menu - and I mean extensive. I'm not just talking about waffles (which there are a lot) but they also have all the omelettes, all the skillets, all the Benedicts...and salads, burgers etc. Serving Lavazza coffee (I always forget how good this brand of coffee is) I ordered the Benedict Trio. Now, I was hungry. Like that hangover hungry where I just wanted carbs and grease. I LOVE breakfast food and this was legit SO MUCH FOOD. I ended up taking half my breakfast potatoes and one of the benies home with me. My friends had the meat skillet and bacon/chicken waffles. Both people raved about their breakfasts! Sunday morning, there was a bit of a wait to be seated, but it wasn't terrible (and obviously was totally worth it). They seem to do quite a bit of takeout orders (grubhub, doordash and the like). Service was efficient and our food came out MINUTES after we placed our order. All in all, I would come here again for sure. This place does have mimosas and bloody Mary's (along with signature cocktails) and the food is banging. Thanks for an awesome dining experience! read more

Great brunch experience in the South Loop! I ordered their Waffle Benedict Trio which blended savory and sweet very deliciously. The value for your dollar here is also great you get a massive amount of food relative to what you pay for. I feel like most brunch spots in Chicago feel roughly the same but just the sheer variety of waffles makes me wanna come back and try other menus. Staff was also very attentive and service was super quick. read more

I didn't choose this brunch spot, so I was shocked to see the not so great reviews when I logged in to yelp about it. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. A group of friends and I decided to walk here from our Airbnb and were surprised to see a rather long line out the front. Not being from the area, we assumed that you go inside and give your name down to the host/hostess so you can wait for your table when one becomes available. One person from our party took the responsibility to do so while the rest of us waited outside. I was wondering why the other people waiting did not seem happy with us. Come to find out, this place is a little unorganized. There is no host or hostess at the front taking names. You are supposed to just wait in line until your party reaches the front, then you are seated when a large enough table becomes available. I really think our mistake made all the difference in our experience, because we were seated rather quickly. We all ordered an assortment of dishes, many savory and some sweet. I went the sweet route and got the liege waffles which come with strawberries and chocolate chips. Everything looked and tasted delicious! I also ordered a side of turkey sausage, which was definitely made to share with the table and not just for one person. I barely had room to eat half of them! Also, the waitress was attentive despite how busy the restaurant was on a Saturday mid-morning. We got our coffee right away and she checked on us several times for refills. I would definitely come back to try some other waffles in the future. Don't let the line deter you, give it a shot! read more

Did delivery. They left off a whole meal from the order. Had to reorder. It was skirt steak and eggs. They must have put the steak in a blender and it was not pleasant to eat so I didn't eat it. Just all around a bad experience. read more

I enjoyed my brunch at Chicago Waffles, seems like this business is very hit or miss though because of the service. Thankfully the restaurant was not very busy, but still the service was average, drinks were weak, and ambiance is just alright. The food is great if you order the right thing. read more

I found this place on a Google search for breakfast food - it's one of the only places that opens before 8, so that was a big bonus. The place is very clean and inviting, and the staff are awesome. They made me feel welcomed and are quick to refill your drink and/or ask how it's going. A big bonus is that there's free WiFi. I'm catching a plane to Europe tonight so I'm a bit all over the place, but this place is neat and warm and has the WiFi I need to get some work done. As for the food itself, it wasn't spectacular BUT I only ordered one thing and it's pretty sugary for breakfast. That's my own fault - I wanted to branch out and I get a sugar coma for doing that. I'll definitely be recommending this place to others. Decently priced, good staff, just get there early as it's full by 8! read more

We had a reservation for party of 9 after the shamrock shuffle. I called them as we were in route because we were going to be 15 minutes late. They were appreciative of the call and said they would hold my table. They were super busy when we arrived but our table was waiting for us. As soon as we sat down Julian was right there greeting us and congratulating us for running the race. We all had mimosas so we ordered three bottles. Drinks came out pretty quickly and as they popped each bottle of champagne that morning our group yelled out "OPA"! Julian was attentive and has a great personality, perfect for the industry for him to be in. The food was delicious. My only bad thing to say is our food did not come out all together. Of course we were all starving so we told those that got their food to eat and not wait for the others but I would say after 10 minutes we were all enjoying their food. I personally had the spare rib skillet with pancakes and both were delicious. Skillet was seasoned very well and had such good flavors. Pancakes were warm and buttery. This place is a must try and when you visit ask for Julian and tell him I said hi. Cheers! read more

The atmosphere was very community friendly as well as family friendly. Julián was my server and he was amazing! He had great recommendations and was very friendly. The martini he told myself and my wife to get was very good. Our food came out on time and was hot and ready. The food had great flavor and was very filling.
