#BecauseWeWon In…read more2013, the Chicago Blackhawks took home Lord Stanley's Cup for the second time in 4 years and their 5th time overall. Any fallout or backlash resulting from the second lockout in recent memory was quickly erased by the stellar play and gutsy effort by each skater on the team and both of our goalies, Ray Emery and Corey Crawford, and not to be forgotten, Coach Q's knack for finding the right combinations for each line throughout the season and deep into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Victory Rally is the ending point of the Victory Parade and the culmination of this shortened seasons' worth of determination and the reminder that there is but One Goal, which is to take home The Stanley Cup. The Rally took place this year at Hutchinson Field, the south end of Grant Park. Police presence was heaviest at the outer edges of the park, where they checked bags, and at the entrances and main thoroughfares. On this warm and sunny day, extra water fountains were placed near the existing spigots. The only issue I had was that no matter how much pre-planning you do to get to the rally and get the spot you want, it won't make any difference. You can camp out all night and wait at the barricades on Congress, but you'll still end up finding somewhere else to take up residence. I had dreams of being right up next to the stage but in reality, it was just too hot to stay there anyway, and we ended up finding shade among the small trees lining Hutchinson Field as we waited for the double decker buses to come down Columbus and make their way to the park. Still, there are enough Jumbotrons and speakers set up that no matter where you are, you'll still be able to see and hear everything that's going on. I was just glad to be there, and be in the presence of my fellow Blackhawks fans, bandwagon or not, it's nice to see Chicagoans united in celebration for a huge win over a tough Boston team for the title of 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. Our seats were an amazing view of first base and there were a variety of crowd engagement activities. Some of the best stadium food can be found there too. Usually I get nachos, but I switched it up this time by going to Lucky's for the Gochujang Bubble Waffle. It was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet and well worth the price. Later on I grabbed a margarita that came in a cute souvenir cup. It was fun to drink and helped keep me cool. I look forward to attending more Sox games in the future!

The other night I brought my son to just his second Bulls game. We were here a few years ago, which is an eternity in terms of the talent on the court. Gone are the days of miserable Pax/Gar teams (thank God) and replaced by awesome stars like Demar Derozan and Zach LaVine. Aside from the new found talent, I have to say that the entertainment factor here was amazing. As in, leaps and bounds better than any other sporting event we go to (and we go see a lot of games in different sports). The pregame intro is classic, the tv and called timeout skits were terrific and hysterical, and the halftime show was a collaboration of gymnasts and performers that put on one hell of a show. Honestly, I felt like I got my money's worth on non-game entertainment alone (despite not catching a parachuting t-shirt from the rafters)..lol. In addition to the game, I highly recommend getting here early to take in everything the building has to offer. The arena is stocked with Bulls and Hawks championship pennants hanging from the banners. One of their concourses is now home to the once outdoor MJ bronze statue, and we also found the case with Bulls 90's championship trophies. Those brought back fond memories. An exciting team that wins adds a lot of value, I'm not going to lie. But the non-game entertainment factor is phenomenal. Even if you aren't an NBA or Bulls fan, I'd still highly recommend stopping in sometime. GO BULLS!

Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Almost all had smiles and greetings as fans walked through the doors. I would like to think it was because EVERYONE was excited to see Rush. The bathrooms were very clean and orderly. The concession area was very busy but clean and lines moved very quickly. I only had popcorn and soda. The popcorn was perfect! Not too chewy, not too salty. It was just right. The venue had clear signage and plenty of staff so it was easy to navigate. There is plenty of parking nearby as well as hotel accommodations. I would highly recommend seeing a concert here.

Bathrooms were clean and chairs were comfy and padded. Chairs and floor were clean. Everything inside looked new. Drink menu looked great and syrups are made in-house at the bar in the 200 level. One drink with tax and tip is about $26 though, so beware. I would gladly return to this arena for another concert.

This was our first visit to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and wonder why we never went before. We…read moresaw a musical based called Play On which was based on Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night to the music of Duke Ellington. The play was fantastic. The stage was decorated beautifully. The actors were amazing. The music was wonderful. We had front row center seats so had a great view of the stage and the actors. Unlike other theaters I've been to, the view from the front row was not obstructed. I think we'll be watching for what's playing there and go again soon.

We saw the best production of the Merry Wives of Windsor at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater! (May…read more2026). We've seen two other excellent versions in other cities, and this one was spectacular. They brought the action into the 20th century.  The words stayed the same, but the jokes took on new meaning for the modern audience.  They also had the best Falstaff ever.  He was always our favorite character, but this one takes keg.  Er, I mean takes the cake :-) The acting was particularly engaging, and the audience really responded to it.  At one point, a drink tray sailed off the stage and into the audience, no harm no foul, and as if it was scripted, an audience member slid the tray back onto the stage amidst much cheering and applause.   The staging was great, with two trap doors (and sound effects of falling bodies!). The stage was complete with a very modern doorbell!  And, yes, it did "ring". As an added bonus, one of the two characters who rode bikes onto the stage was brandishing a sword. Shakespeare meets Cirque? It was a hugely fun production in a lovely comfortable multi-tiered theater. Every seat has a good view of the stage. Chicago Shakespeare Theater is out on Navy pier, past the colorful cartoon-like statue of Flyboy, "The Great Debate", by Hebru Brantley!

This is a great parade when the weather is just right. Not too hot or rainy or cold. I see the kids…read moremarching and dancing and I feel for them. THere is someone walking around with water thank goodness. I had hoped to get a glimpse of Mayor Lightfoot but apparently I missed her with the public schools. But Comedian Lil Rel as the Grand Marshall was still awesome! There were some giveaways for the kids and of course political and corporate show-offs. But the main attraction are schools, bands, other community organizations. The CTA reroute was in effect, which meant walking from Cottage Grove to King Drive on 47th. No buses that I could see would take us there on 47th. We should have invested in chairs but the grassy area was fine. People engage in enterprise at the parade by having cookouts; LOTS of cookouts and food for sale. We had grabbed doughnuts and I don't usually crave a hamburger at 10:30 am but next time i'll be more adventurous.

Plenty of local school bands, dance and tumbling groups, politicians, radio stations, CPS, local and national companies, not for profits, etc most giving away little freebies.
