This plant shop was suggested to me by a coworker with whom I share a love of houseplants. From…read morewhat I understand from her, they started selling plants via Instagram and then branched out to their own shop? And I think it's woman-owned, which is definitely something I want to support! This shop is located in Jeff Park, and I missed it when I visited the first time; it's right on the corner of Lawrence & Milwaukee. Parking may not be obvious if you're not around here often, and there isn't parking on Milwaukee this far north. It's about a block from the library and the ACTUAL Jefferson Park, and a block or two from the Copernicus Center in the other direction, so there is some parking but it's probably all pay to park (at least across from the library on Lawrence it was). So you should be able to find a place to park in the surrounding streets. The women working--the owner/s I think?--said hello but weren't overbearing. They offered help if I needed which I appreciated. They were knowledgeable, which you'd think would be a given but doesn't always seem to be when I've visited other plant shops. They were answering a customer's question about a monstera plant that they have in the window, teaching him that the particular plant he was admiring was several hundred dollars because it's a rare one, with a stable mutation; on the other hand, also monsteras do not have a stable mutation and thus their variegated color can shift to a solid green. That was fascinating to learn about (since I was dropping eaves, obviously)! It also taught me to be wary of an expensive albo monstera since this seems like something that scammers would try to sell unsuspecting plant parents. They have some of the plants you'll find at a lot of places, and they're in great health! They also had some carnivorous plants. Plant-related merchandise was also on sale, including accessories like decorative plant stakes (love!), or plant critters to sit with or on your plants, that sort of thing. Pots, of course. They also sell things like face masks, plant-based skincare, and the like. The store is very large and not at all crowded. I'm not sure if they're still finding their footing with regards to arranging their store or not. And they have an awesome plant swap area--a little take-a-cutting/leave-a-cutting shelf. They have a couple of chairs too so folks can relax in the jungle here!

This is a tiny shop, but it is PACKED with botanicals…read more The shopkeeper was friendly and quite knowledgeable, but he wasn't wearing a mask and this was a few days to a week before the mask mandate ended in Chicago (February 28, 2022) and I'm already a bit wary so I headed out. I'm not sure if that was on purpose or he didn't realize, but it was getting a little crowded in the store for me anyway so probably would have been ready to leave regardless. There are lots of plants, and my understanding is that not everything is on display since they're short on space in the main area of the shop. They have a nice collection of orchids, too; I actually considered getting one, but changed my mind. For some reason I think of them as being somewhat... difficult, or needing more attention (whether that's true or not I'm not sure), and I have enough responsibilities with the plants I already own (especially one of my calatheas that's being a bit of a drama queen at the moment!). I may have to try my hand at an orchid sometime, though. The aforementioned shopkeep gave me a huge boost of confidence that I could. In our discussion he mentioned the crucial point that orchids are just plants that flower more often than other botanical houseplants folks might keep, even though many green houseplants may flower under the right conditions. Once an orchid stops flowering, they're still plants without the flowers for you to care for. Food for thought! They also have a shop pet, which was a surprise! I don't like lizards, but luckily this one was in an enclosure. I was a bit startled, though, so be forewarned that the little guy is hanging out in his plexiglass home--he won't hurt you, since you won't be able to touch him, but I as I said, I was surprised! They don't have a huge collection of pots, but the plants all looked lovely and healthy. They have some popular favorites, but it also seemed they had some more unusual and harder to find plants. They have displays for live plant walls for which you can consult with them to install in your home or office, too, if you wish. Parking on this stretch of Damen is touch and go, and it's paid, so plan accordingly.

I fell in love with this store and wish I had more time to look around and shop. Very good quality plants, pots, accessories and even planting soil/dirts/mulch/etc. The owner and her daughter were so pleasant. Even got to see a pet chicken. I definitely saw three plants that I wanted. Trying not to buy any new plants until I move. All in all, super cute place. They even have workshops. I will be back to this shop soon as I have at least three plants that need new pots. Check this place out.

Lynn is exceptionally patient, knowledgeable, and responsive. She's recently revamped the store layout and mix of merchandise to now include clothing, crafting supplies, even more plants. I brought a plant to be repotted and the wonderful Peyton fixed him right up. They were very knowable and friendly. I recommend this shop to all my plant loving friends and they all agree, Plant Shop Chicago is where it's at!

I really like this plant shop! It is right across the place from where I bought my bike. When I…read morebought it last year I think that the owner of this shop was having a pop-up in the back lot of the bike shop, but I didn't get a chance to look at the plants. I had to take my bike in so I got a chance to visit the shop, finally! First, the facade. It's amazing. This is definitely one of the most eye-catching shops in the city. When I got there just after the opening hour it was still closed, but luckily it was open by the time I finished up at the bike shop so I was able to go in. When I wandered in there actually wasn't anyone in the shop--I didn't realize that until the shopperson (the owner, I think?) came in. The dog needed a walk around but I was wandering around and didn't need any help at the time anyway! They had some really nice plants. I tend to like my plants a bit smaller, not only because they're a bit cheaper but because I like to see them grow. I did leave with some potting soil, and an air plant and pot. I haven't ever had an air plant (hopefully I'll be able to keep this one healthy), but they explained to me how to care for it (twice, since I was nervous) so I think it will be nice in my office. I actually decided to get it because I saw some adorable tiny pots (I'm not sure why I have a thing for owls, but I do!) and wanted something to put in it, but none of my plants are small enough and they would grow too quickly anyway. So the air pot works perfectly. I wish I knew how to make a cutting of a plant so I could bring one for the Take a Cutting, Leave a Cutting wall. I'm not sure if I can learn (confidently) overnight. :'( I need to return tomorrow to pick up my bike so I plan to stop in and pick up another air plant and adorable owl pot for my bedroom as well. Really appreciated the friendliness and helpful of both the folks who helped me whilst I was in the shop.

My boss came to me the other day and told me that he wanted some beautiful plants for our big new…read moreoffice space. So I did a search and contacted about 10 different interior landscaping services. Lisa from Plants Inc. responded. She came to our space and we did a walk around and looked at the space, lighting, I gave her our ideas. She knew SO much about the plants, how they work in what spaces, and she had some very innovative ideas for where to put plants and how- which made her stand out from some of the other services who I talked to. She was very willing to work within our budget and make adjustments so we got what we wanted- within a price range. The proposal she created for us was also probably the easiest to understand. I appreciated that because I had to go through and explain each proposal to management. We have not decided which service we will go with yet, but Lisa at Plants Inc. did such a great job, she is in the top 3, and I would be very happy to continue working with her.

Poles, stuff for potting mix, and pressed dried flowers earrings are also sold here! I got my thai constellation from green spaces, and she is thriving! They didn't have the size that I wanted at first; however, they managed to get one for me in a couple of days after I asked. As for the prices, I'd say the plants here are affordable and/or reasonably priced. Hanan was super sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. I adore her energy and enthusiasm. I love how she always greets everyone with such great energy when people walk in. I'll definitely stop by green spaces again from time to time despite the long commute.
