I could visit this store once a week because it makes me happy. I love to see all of their indoor and outdoor plants doing so well. Of course the plants I have cared for in the past never look as good as the plants here. They also sell pots, terrariums, plant and gardening related gifts. Surprisingly, they even have a vinyl record that you play for your plants!!! Employees are willing to help with any questions. This place is just short of visiting a small botanical garden. I almost forgot to mention the rooftop has plants and planters for your rooftop or patio. All items are priced according to the quality of their merchandise. I stumbled upon Sprout by happenstance; as I was driving down Damen I saw what looked like plants in the window and had to drive around the block to see if my eyes deceived me. I like visiting plant shops and had just recently been thinking I wanted to get another, so how serendipitous was this? It's a nice shop. Staff are friendly; although there was one employee checking another woman out when I first arrived and started wandering around, that employee sought me out when they were done to ask if I needed any assistance, and I appreciated that. They have a large and spacious shop, as well as an extensive outdoor section. I didn't find anything that I wanted today. They had some really nice plants, but I didn't really find something I wanted that I didn't already have. Their prices seemed a bit high... though I will admit I haven't been to a plant shop in several months and with inflation making prices increase so sharply recently, that may simply be the nature of the cost of living in 2022. read more

It's just a wrist corsage. Worn briefly and discarded. But i was tired of buying the same variation of white rose/ranunculus. It occurred to me to ask my fav plant store (the one I've had to stay away from because I spent too much there). I asked them it they could do one that was pretty but interesting, less typical. In line with the very cool things you find in both of their stores. I could not be more delighted--gorgeous! They even honored my last minute request to try to add a little blue. I had a little dried arrangement cut for a small vase and the employee could not have been more helpful or kind! My partner and I learned about their floral arranging workshops and planned to sign up! Today I was excited to go in and buy another small gift for a friend. I was disappointed. I asked for help and it was very obvious that I was asking too much of the one available shop employee. She was cold and unfriendly, it was as though she was pissed at me! I wish that I could separate reviews for Sprout Home's plant store from the florist/homewares across the stress. My four stars take into account both components of the business. I often find myself stopping by Sprout Home for plants more often than I should. There is a nice variety of plants to choose from, and I can always find something to add to my evergrowing collection. What has stood out to me is how well-cared for the plants are, which makes the transition to my house much easier. I also appreciate the opportunity to have your new plants potted into your newly purchased pots. I would also be remiss if I did not mention that the staff is helpful while giving adequate space to browse intentionally and thoughtfully. I would give the plant portion of the store 5 stars without hesitation. The floral and homewares shop across the street leaves something to be desired. I have been several times to look at candles, pottery, and purchase bouquets. When purchasing flowers, it can feel like the staff members are not interested in helping you create an arrangement if you need or desire help. On a recent visit, I grabbed a few flowers and asked for help and recommendations for greenery to round out the arrangement. The staff member that I asked did not seem very invested in helping and I constantly felt like I was bothering them despite the empty shop. I've had a similar experience on more than one other occasion, and I think that I might be done purchasing flowers here. If you are looking for help with floral arrangements/bouquets, I have had much more pleasant and attentive service at another florist in the area. I would rate the shop 3 out of 5 stars. read more

I always get beautiful arrangements from here. I first learned of this place when my ex used to get me flowers from here. This is my go to place for flowers for any occasions. Everyone is so nice and helpful. The only issue is finding parking if you're picking up. Once you do find parking it's a quick in and out. The flowers were very pretty and they listened the minimal specifications and it got to the location on time but the $15 vase was so basic and again the amount of flowers I got was not ok. Alas my quest to find the perfect house plant and live my dream of being a plant dad has been fulfilled. I'm surprised that in my past eight plus years living in Chicago, I had never heard of this place! Sprout Home is the plant mecca, the lost eighth wonder of the world, the 'Hanging Garden of Chicago'. (I'll stop). But in all serious, this place is beautiful, and the staff are so knowledgeable and welcoming. I've been in the market for a plant or two to complete my new place, and was brought here by a fellow plant-loving friend. Immediately upon entering, you feel as though you've entered the jungle, and the aroma of fresh flowers fill the air. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I was immediately greeted by the nicest worker (didn't catch his name but had a great haircut and glasses). At first we were just browsing, getting feels from plants that spoke to me. When it was time to get serious, we request some assistance and general plant care knowledge. We decided on a beautiful Bird of Paradise plant, with huge green palms that would grow into a large, soon to be staple in my apartment. I also took this very unique cactus, that I just couldn't resist. The entire store is beautifully curated with any type of plant you could imagine. From wispy air plants, to large outdoor trees, to cactus that looked over 100 years old. They have a section of fresh cut flowers to make bouquets, beautiful glass containers to create your own terrarium, and pots of all shapes and sizes for planting. If you're looking for quality plants from experts, look no further. I have not seen another place like this in Chicago, a truly unique, magical place. read more

I just moved to Chicago and have been looking for plants to populate my home - my choices (before discovering Sprout Home) were limited to Home Depot's Garden Center, so I was SO glad to come to Sprout and find some of the plants I was struggling to find: - A cute, tyrannosauric peperomia - A string of pearls succulent - A beautifully striped calathea (which I did not get but will be returning to purchase once I've replenished my plant budget). It's a bit difficult to find free parking around here as it is a busy street right in front, but I was able to find free parking a couple blocks away!:) This is my first time in a plant shop/nursery and the store didn't disappoint! There's such a variety of plants all over the store. From succulents to hanging plants. They also have macrame hangers in case you want to buy them separately for your own hanging plants. They also have stones for purchase, such as quartz and amethyst. The customer service was great, everyone asked if we needed help and it seemed like a great environment to work in. You could tell they really take care of the plants. It's a bit pricier as it is an independent plant store but I would say much of the plants are worth it! Through multiple staff were working at the time I was in the store, not a single person proactively asked me if I needed help or suggestions. In fact, when I asked to see a plant I was met with attitude and coldness. The only reason I ended up making a purchase is that I needed to buy a gift with limited time, and every other plant store nearby is closed on Tuesdays. Additionally when you're purchasing an overpriced plant and pot, the least they can do is offer free potting. It was an additional $7 to set my plant into the pot. read more

My partner and I went to Sprout for the first time several months ago to get a simple houseplant. We didn't have much knowledge of plants or gardening, but wanted something that would stylishly fit into our home. The staff at Sprout was extremely knowledgable about every plant in their gallery. They were able to teach us about the specific care of individual plants and help us decide which to choose based on amount of sunlight and required care. After our first purchase, we felt like we left with the tools to continue our plant collection, and we've been back many more times. The selection of plants can't be beat. They seem to have every type of plant ranging from indoor tropical, hanging vines, and leafy plants, to indoor/outdoor trees and flowering plants. They also have a huge selection of mini succulents, cacti, and air plants, which always seem to change. Aside from live plants, Sprout has a wide range of fresh cut flowers, leaves, and planting materials to create a beautiful flower arrangement. I've dried some of their flowers to create beautiful bouquets. The amount of thoughtfully curated planters, terrariums, and accessories is second to none. Probably my favorite feature of the shop is that the offer a service to repot your plant into one of their beautiful planters, rather than living in the plastic container. This is especially great for those planters which include drain holes and trays, making for more convenient watering with an elegant look. They carry a wide variety of succulents and tropical plants. They also have those cool air plants. Their outdoor area is beautiful and filled with outdoor plants perfect for your garden. I love that they have modern pots of varying sizes. Everything's pretty moderately priced, which is great. I've attended the terrarrium class here. It's $75 for the class, and you get a bowl and 3-4 succulents or tropicals to choose from. Jessica taught my class and was very thorough with teaching and providing techniques. You're free to choose from whatever materials they have available for the class. The employees are delightful. They're so nice and knowledgeable. Advice is always free! read more

I have more than 50 plants from nurseries around the city and online shops from NY and LA. I was excited to add to my collection. The first time I visited I was in awe. The store really is beautifully designed. I shopped for 30 minutes and not one person greeted me or asked if I needed help. Regardless, I purchased two plants. The second time I went, I was hoping it would be better. I was planning to purchase three plants despite the price being double of other retailers. But then I realized, once again, not one person greeted me or spoke to me the entire time I was in the store. I decided to just leave. I'll stick to stores with friendly staff. read more

This store is addictive. Worse than chocolate. The selection of plants and pots is terrific. I came here to buy one plant for my coffee table and left with four. Good thing there are no carbs in house plants. The first 15 minutes, no one offered to help me, even though the place wasn't busy. So I picked out a pot, then saw there was a smaller version of it... couldn't decide so I got both. Finally found a friendly salesperson. I didn't want plants that would outgrow the pots quickly, so he steered me to a ponytail palm and a blooming Easter cactus (blooms in the spring instead of Christmas). He repotted them both for $12. I paid for everything and was about to leave when I heard my name being called: "Marcia, take us home, too." I turned and noticed two large, healthy looking succulents, very trendy now if you're into plants. I could never say no to a plea like that, so they are currently living on my balcony among my red geraniums... will bring them inside in the fall. Bought the four plants about six weeks ago, and they are as healthy as when I brought them home. The only disappointment is the flowering cactus, which lost its beautiful pink flowers and all of the buds within a week. Not sure if it was too late in the season for it, or if it just didn't like being repotted, but I must now wait at least nine months for it to flower again. Bummer, as it's kind of an ugly duckling without the blooms. read more

When we moved to Chicago last summer I was so excited to find a plant store I loved, and even more excited when I realized that their floral shop did weddings. Having fresh beautiful flowers at our August 2022 wedding was so important to me and Ernie more than delivered. When I came in for our consultation I had some ideas of what I wanted but couldn't fully articulate (or even visualize) what it would all look like. Somehow, Ernie knew! Ernie was so patient as I changed my color scheme, added some dried florals, and put in last minute requests for specific flowers (and she figured out ways to incorporate all of my requests even when she warned me that they'd be hard to keep fresh for a full evening). The final result was more perfect than I could have imagined and she somehow intuited what I would love (for example, she added birds of paradise to my bouquet and to our chuppah decor, a flower that I love but would have never thought to request!). It's one thing for the flowers to be perfect the day of but they also lasted so long after the wedding. I brought my bouquet and our sweetheart table arrangement with on our mini-moon and they still looked beautiful for days to come, and we gave away many of our bud vase arrangements to friends and family to brighten their homes! read more

A snooty plant shop successfully selling overpriced plants to people who read goop and to those who are unlucky enough to walk in and become mystified by the plant display. If you don't look white and/or wealthy don't expect to get helped. It felt like I was actively avoided each time I was in here. They definitely only approach a certain demographic. Last I was there it seemed like I was scaring away who I believe was the manager if I got too close to her. As if helping me would be a filthy act. I would go inside, she would go outside. I would go outside she would flee or ask someone wealthy looking if they needed more help and eventually try to get inside. All the while glancing back at me. Like an actual chicken. Was only helped once ever by someone who didn't even know what peat moss was. Or how to water plants. Or that I wasn't going to buy anything. It was the first time I had ever been in this store and I was in there for about 10 minutes. The entire time I was in there I was followed by the guy that checks people in at the front door. I could feel him hovering around watching me. He asked me multiple different times if I needed any help. There were 5 or 6 other customers besides me in the store that I barely saw him interact with. On his last approach of asking me if I needed any help I finally asked him about a plant I knew that they didn't have just to make my brake from the awkward situation. His response was "so that means your not getting anything?" I politely told him no and that I would check back later on to see if they had what I was looking for. And thank you anyways. He literally walks over to the door and said" oh ok! Doors right here." It really is a shame. The store and the plants looked great but the negative experience that I had from the employee definitely deterred me from possibly ever going back. read more

My wife bought a plant for our house there the other day and when she went to put it in the car it wouldn't fit. So she walks back into the store and asks if she can return the plant for slightly smaller one. The woman behind the counter says they don't do refunds (she bought it 5 mins ago) but to exchange it they charge a 25% restocking fee. Seriously??? They offered to deliver the plant for $75, which was a no go, but then my wife asked them if they could wrap it up, which they did and it eventually fit. I don't know how a small business stays in business when they have this sort of policy and customer service. Smiles and a little flexibility go a long way in this world. Might be a good idea for them to think about that because i'll definitely be taking my dollars elsewhere now. read more

Let me start by saying that I have spent a lot of money at the garden store and I will not be going back since these businesses are connected. First, I stopped into the home store to ask about flowers for my mother. I asked specifically about Calla Lilies since these are her favorite flower. The woman told me I could "order them from the website." So, I went home and looked and there were no Callas on the website. I called the store and asked for the flowers for Saturday. I was told that they could not guarantee the color because it would be based on the market, so we agreed that whatever color of Calla Lilies was available would be fine. I was charged for the flowers. On the day I went to pick them up, I was handed a random bouquet of flowers with zero Calla Lilies. Then, I was told they could not guarantee that those would be available. I was given a refund. Great. No flowers for my mom. AND I was told that there were Calla Lilies at Mariano's by the person working at the store. When I wrote an email to explain this to the proprietor, the response was dismissive. Needless to say, whenever I want a pot for plants, a new plant, or anything else, I no longer go to Sprout. This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a business in the neighborhood. read more
