I have been following this place specifically for their Pastries from Edison, NJ. I believe that was one of the 1st locations for Hot breads and now in Chicago, IL. I liked this place before as it use to 100% vegetarian but this place in Hoffman Estates isn't. I am not a big of this place in the sense of food, but I do like their pastries. They make it with eggs and eggless as well which is a big help for my family when it comes to ordering cake for any events. Great food and desserts but ambience and kids menu not so great. Food is consistently delicious but is spicy and has Andhra touch, mutton curries and biriyani are worth trying. Menu is well displayed and provides adequate choices for Veg and non-veg folks. Snacks are also good, pastries are very delicious. Dosa and Sambhar are good but chutneys are of very poor quality. Overall prices are very reasonable and almost half of a sit-in restaurant. However the ambience for sit-in restaurant in very poor, chairs are of cheap quality and little or no though is given to folks who want to sit-in and eat. For kids who can't handle spice the only good option is Dosa. I guess good for bachelors or takeaway but not suitable for family who want to sit-in and enjoy a dinner together. read more

Have been here couple of times.. Mainly for the pav and pastries. Their food isn't the best!!! Dabeli is pretty decent. The dosa was good but chutney smelled odd and sambhar was too watery! Puri were served cold and oil dripped from it. And not to forget they were as hard as papad! Their pastries are really good. COCKROACHES- I hope that gets everyone's attention. I ate there a few nights ago and although I was warned about the hygiene of this place, I still went against my better judgment. My son loves dosa so my husband and I went there with our two kids. We were seated at a booth next to the windows. As we are eating my husband made a gesture toward the window and there it was- a HUGE COCKROACH crawling on the inside of the glass a few inches away from falling into my sons food. As a mom, my instinct was to just contain the situation so I took my shoe off and smashed the cockroach dead! The sound it made attracted the attention of the employee up front and he just looked away (quite shadily). I quickly looked at my shoe to find evidence of the dead cockroach so I could calmly show the guy up front. I didn't need to look far as there were 3 MORE crawling under our booth!! That was enough, but I didn't want to make a scene and ruin my 5 year olds dinner that he was blissfully enjoying (as most kids would). So my husband goes to the front and says, "look, I don't want to make a scene but we just killed a..." and before he even finished, the employee filled in the blank and knowingly said "cockroach?" So they are very well aware of he problem and choose not to do anything about it. If the main dining area is infested with roaches, imagine what the kitchen looks like. Unfortunately at hotbreads, you pay before you get your food. We were offered no money back. The guy just shrugged his shoulders and said "well I'm not the owner there's nothing I can do." Really??? So when the owners are not there, you have no procedure in place at all to help a dissatisfied (and disgusted) customer? It was a Friday night for goodness sake, not a random weekday afternoon. To top that, our paratha was hard, and the falooda had no noodles in it- and no one told us that they didn't have that ingredient until after we paid full price for it and asked them about it. Just another nonchalant shrug. How about, "I'm sorry sir, can we make you another paratha?" Or "would you like a pastry on the house?"... not that I'd ever eat the food prepared in this cockroach infested place anyways but its the principle of the fact, right? Anyways, we left disgusted and disappointed. My biggest regret besides eating here, was being too horrified to have the sense to whip my phone out and take pics of all the roaches. This is a no frills place- you come here for the food, not the ambiance. they are famous for their indian cake style desserts (with eggless varieties). Cake in India is unlike anything you get in america... so for those people looking for cake from home- you will find it here. we ordered food to go: -what's nice is that they bag each container separately (in case of oil leakage) so it doesn't go everywhere (no oil leaked) we got: -mutter panner: -navratran korma -mutto chettinand -chicken biryani -lamb chettinand everything of the above was standard fare, to be expected, comfort food. Nothing was mind-blowing or exceptionally good. There was a lot of gravy in the dishes (less veggies). Everything did taste different and it was of decent quality. I think if you want something fast,fresh, and spicy that reminds you of the comfort of home, this is fine. Other reviews are very accurate. Very low key and definitely not fancy at all. Think outdated Spanish restaurant. The food tasted good, but we did not get rice with our Curries which was unfortunate. The naan was flavorful, but flat and chewy. My partner's lamb curry had shards of bone in it. Service was very to the point. and tepid but wasn't unpleasant. First the eggless cake review:- kind of feel like they keep the customers hostage because of monopoly for eggless cakes. The taste of cake is no doubt very good but it comes with high price. Secondly 2 of my orders very delivered after 1 hour delay at the store. No courtesy or nothing at all. Again felt like a hostage. I ordered take out from Hot Breads Schaumburg. When I went into the store, there were customers who were not wearing masks, in the first place and they were being served though there were signs on the door that everyone must wear a mask. The lady in the front was extremely rude when she made a mistake in my order stating "You ordered it that way". Also, when I brought home the food, the gravy they gave for mutton biryani was stale and it stunk. Not only is the customer service poor, but they are unsafe (no masks, no gloves when serving during COVID times), rude, and provide stale food to their customers. This will be the last time I order at Hot Breads, Schaumburg. Do not choose this place to eat out if you care about your health and respect. read more

I cook better than them, for sure. Do I seem a bit rude? Maybe. But much less than that lady behind the counter. First of all, the food is just plain bad. It seemed to be dipped in oil before handing over to us. Oh and the "handing over to us" part came almost half an hour after ordering. That was so frustrating. People who came in after us were getting served earlier. That lady didnt bother to apologise when we finally received the stuff. 90% of the stuff ended up in a trash bin. Considering the time they took, I half hoped the stuff would be freshly prepared and palatable. Being an Indian, I feel so sorry to say this, it hurts but now I usually dont prefer places that are run by Indian origin people. The attitude they put on display will surely affect their sales. The restaurant has quite a few things going - location, name recognition, loyal customer base and yet underwhelms in a every category; Food Taste & Quality: Food quality and taste is about average. We tried dosa, Curry Puffs and Veg Biryani and found the food to be fair tasting (when it was fresh) but of questionable quality. The problem was with readymade stuff i.e., any puffs, cakes, sweets which are of highly questionable quality and likely 2 weeks old. My son threw up almost immediately. But considering everything else food may be the only thing going for this place. Ambience: Given the strip mall it is location, Ambience is fair enough. Service: Service was OK but if you counted the quality of food towards service then customers do get served quite stale food. Hence negatively rated. Place is not very clean and the food is over-priced. Worst of all, the service here is terrible. The woman who takes your order and rings you out is extremely rude and unwelcoming. The last time I went, I asked for an extra roll and paid for it. It took them about 20 minutes just for the roll. By the time, they gave it to me I was already done eating. When I pointed it out to the lady that it took them 20 minutes, she yelled at me and said it was because I didn't order it when I placed my original order. There are so many other places in the area with better quality food and great services. Will never be going back to this place again. My husband and I visited Chicago Hot Breads today for the very first time. My husband ordered a black forest pastry, papdi chaat, samosa chaat, and a single samosa. When we got our order, it was missing the papdi chaat so my husband went back to the person he'd originally placed the order with to let him know the papdi chaat was missing. The guy starts to scold my husband. He tells my husband that he confirmed the order more than once and that my husband only ordered the a pastry, samosa and samosa chaat. To top it off he even shows the piece of paper he'd written the order on proving that my husband did not order papdi chaat. Mistakes happen! Or maybe my husband is just deaf? But does that matter anyway? There was obviously some confusion regarding the order but it wasn't a big issue until the guy decided to prove himself right. All he had to say was that "no problem, let me get the papdi chaat". Apparently the guy knows nothing about being polite or about customer service. He wasn't just rude with us. While we were waiting for our food, he was taking a phone order. I guess he couldn't hear the person on the phone so he yells at the person on the phone saying "ARE YOU ON SPEAKER PHONE?" Again, all he had to say was, "I'm sorry, I can't hear you. Can you please repeat that?" Now moving on from the guy who is the epitome of impolite, the food tasted horrible! 1. The papdi chaat was tasteless! Tasted so bad I barely ate any of it. 2. The chick peas in the samosa chaat weren't cooked fully. 3. The samosa had no taste at all. The potatoes in the samosa tasted as if all it had was peas, chillies, cumin seeds, cilantro, chilli powder/chili and salt. I might not know how to make samosa filling but I know enough to know that it needs much more than what it had! We visited Hot Breads for the first time today and unfortunately, we won't be ever going again. I know customer service is too much to ask of Indian businesses but being a little polite goes a far way especially considering how poor tasting the food is. I have never felt worse about wasting $11! The description of the guy we dealt with is as follows: 1. chubby 2. short hair 3. has a goatee 4. has wheatish skin. We went in on Wednesday, June 23rd, around 6 PM. I tried to get his name from the woman who was working at the cashier, but she was just as rude. I stop by this place at lunch time sometimes. It is a no frills kind of place. They have south Indian food and bakery items. You order at the front, when food is ready it is called out and you go pick it up. When you are done eating you walk back to the counter and pay I would recommend their Dosas...I like the non-masala type, since it tends to be crunchier. Their samosa and papidi chaat is also good. We have gone to this place regularly and the pastries have been excellent. We have ordered cakes also and had good experience. But last week for the first time, the pastries were dry and stale. My mom had the strawberry one and the strawberries were spoiled. Later that evening my husband started to feel quezzy after having some and I began to have an upset stomach. I felt so disgusted and made a decision never to go there again. My husband had called and spoke to a manager and he said they bake their cakes daily and he said to come by next time and he'll see what he can do for us. I have been to Hot Breads place in Hoffman Estates few times in hopes of seeing some improvements in cleanness but have always been disappointed. The garbage can is always full and smells as soon as you enter the door. The tables are always dirty. I have always asked the cashier to clean "A" table so that we can sit down. The glass main door and the glass cover on the pastries is always dirty and finger prints are all over. The wall panels have dirty food stamps. A fairly small place which serves as a bakery and some chaat / fast-food joint. The bhel puri was pretty good and large enough to share. The dabeli tasted good too, this can be renamed a "veggie/peanut burger". The food comes out fairly quickly. It's not more than what it is, if you are expecting proper food, don't go here but chaat is Ok, if you have that in mind. The food was a complete disappointment; bland and tasteless. Almost everything we had tasted like it had sambar spice mix in it. The chicken biryani was the worst thing we have ever had ! The masala chai is nothing but hot water, milk base and ready made spice syrup mixed together. The filling inside the puffs wasn't anything great and the overall flavor of the puffs got ruined once they were reheated in the microwave and served ! One star I gave is for the pastry and roti Dirty dirty place. Is Health department sleeping? We sat on a table and they did not even bother to wipe it. It had remains from earlier party. We were hungry and had no inclination to find another place at that time so adjusted. Food quality has been going down in years but surprisingly with increase in customer base. Mostly Indian customers come to it because it's name resembles a famous bakery in India (not sure if it is same owner because quality is a big let down) and due to lack of Indian fast food choices in this area. We also gave it another try to see if there is any improvement. There was one, they have more siting area now with new booths added The displays are dirty...electric wire from display lighting touches the food...tapes all over the display...no food warmers to keep bad bacteria away...we ordered chola bhatura, even the street vendor in India knows that Chola Bhatura is served with raw onion, pickle and lemon wedge...there was nothing in the plate...Bhatura were not fried completely and were like raw dough...we ordered 4 dishes(chola bhatura, butter paneer masala with roti and veg burger)...they were not only late they forgot one for which we had to wait another 30 mins...the forgotten one was veg burger...and it had a bun, aloo patty which was cold, lettuce and a mini slice of tomato..no cheese, no sauce, no onion inside Bottom line: Why worry about food quality or cleanliness or taste even, when you have so many customers lining up (due to lack of Indian fast food restaurants in the area)...as long as cash register is ringing...all is well read more

THE worst Indian fast food place in Schaumburg area! The chutney was SPOILED and the Sambar had burnt disgusting taste! It takes under 5 minutes to make the chutney fresh, but I guess they keep it for weeks and serve such spoiled food. We didn't go there and spend our money to eat that crap! Shame on those who run this place. The fried snacks was made the day before I think and NOTHING is fresh here. The owner thinks he is saving pennies here, but this place is going down soon. I don't have enough information to comment on quality of food but it tastes good. The customer service is less than desirable to say the least. The staff is over worked, space is cramped, too much noise, shouting - both by staff for food orders and people just makes for a less than decent experience. Michi bajji + Parota curry 1. vada was like a rock ; it was almost stale i think; Both chutneys were not fresh and not made with fresh coconut ;Keema puff had no flavor or spice not even salt ......; my friend had dosa and told me it that vegetable fat smeared over it instead of ghee. 2. it was not chapathi but phulka ; curry came with a kidney piece almost immediately had to throw up 3. Made sure to tell I dont want any neck piece ; liver or kidney etc. guy behind counter tells me they never put it in curry ; I told maybe it was a mistake from last time ; finally eat the curry ; just plain chuncks on meat it is almost he boiled chicken and put it in gravy ; reminds of dirty food stalls quality food ; the poratoa was just put on griddle and not finished so it was rock hard ; me thinks it was frozen ; mirchi bajji one dollar a piece was reeking of bad oil ; same oil used in fryer again and again ....guaranteed to give you a heart attack. Worst Indian restaurant in Chicagoland area. We went there today. Filthy atmosphere and stale food. We ordered different dishes and all of them were of pure quality . Bathroom was pathetic. There was no soap to was your hands. The tables were dirty. No wonder why on a Saturday Lunch hour only 2 tables were occupied. There are two more Hot Breads ( Prospect Heights and Naperville). The Naperville one is the best . Stay away from the Hoffman Estate one. I'm wondering why is Hot Bread not maintaining standards across all its centers. read more

Not happy with the customer service. The person who takes the order scares me because of her attitude. I think the place needs a lively staff and happy faces so you don't feel bad about ordering food. The person who works there is extremely rude and doesn't respond if you ask questions regarding how long will it take for the order.Also, I have had an experience where the person forgot to give me the food. Ok, "no frills" is being generous. This is not a place you take someone to impress them. It's sort of dingy and it's not the cleanest (I know, eek!). BUT, the food is legit! I went the first time with a big group (10 people) and we tried a bunch of stuff- all great. Came back another time and the food is still great. I love that the idli and vada are super fresh (the vadas have especially been super crisp and delicious- they really hit the spot). The dosas are on point. The masala dosa is so good, and the prices are incredible. It's like $6 for a dosa. I live in Chicago, and you can't get anything on devon for $6. Chola bhatura is really good. I mean it's all good. My husband had some mutton curry and it was VERY tasty (and I am not a big meat eater). If I lived closer I would be here every week. As it stands, it's about 50 minutes for me to drive out here, so I try to visit when I am out visiting family in the burbs. PS the cakes are good.
