My favorite episodes generally involved the "Holiday Hell Feast" where they'd invite the midget Klan over with the midget Black Panthers and let them sort it out over mashed potatoes and gravy. The episodes where someone reveals themselves to be a transgender were always good television. Inevitably, people got their hair pulled or a chair thrown. I never made it to the taping, unfortunately. But it was always my favorite thing to watch on TV when I got to stay home sick from school. I heard they moved the taping to Connecticut. I guess there's better freakazoids out there to put on the show. But it wasn't tacky television. There was always the closing thought, where Jerry poignantly summarizes what we've learned and how we can all make the world a better place.

First, you've got to come up with some sort of costume. Banana, Russian soccer player, evergreen forest--whatever you want, it doesn't have to make sense. Bonus points for bright colors! Then, you head over to the studio and dance alongside children, college students, older folks and other friendly types, all while local bands lip-sync to their songs in front of you. Oh, and there's a talking rat named RATSO that tells jokes. Best part: it's FREE! And they usually set out free snacks. Sometimes there are special celebrity guests. THE Paul Frank was featured one time. I enjoy going with my friends for something different to do. And believe me, it is VERY different. Sometimes it smells a little in the studio, like the smell of not having regular shower access, but it's part of the charm. And FUN! Tapings are normally Saturday or Sunday afternoons, but they vary. Viable Public Access television is going the way of the dinosaur but, somehow, C-A-G-G has managed to tape over 700 episodes and entertain kids young and old throughout the Midwest. I didn't quite know what to expect. It seemed way too simple to just show up to a building, pay nothing, smile for the camera, and dance to music. But, that's exactly what you do. You show up at the appointed tape time (it's TV; time rules all), you should be dressed in some sort of catchy costume (it's TV; stand out), get ready to take direction (it's TV; follow the rules), and show the world what you've got (it's TV; some rapper has to be looking for a rump-shaker). For my taping, there were monsters, robots, kittens, princesses, wizards, and the little kids dressed up in costume as well. The director said "Action" and the very first refrain I heard was "I whip mah herre back an' forth!" Dammit! Another Smith has infiltrated something that was good and pure. On cue, all the little ones started bobbing and moving to their braided-leaders commands. Startled, I began to think ill of my plan until the evil sounds of the littlelest Smith were drowned out by Motown... and then The Jackson 5... and then LIVE, IN-STUDIO DOO-WOP! What? What is going on here? Nothing makes sense. This is awesome. Miss Mia's job is to interview the musical guests and keep the action moving. She does an excellent job at both. And as pleasant as she is to watch in action, my true attention was trained on Ratso -- the puppet rat MC who calls the shots. Perhaps my rapt attention to a talking rat over an attractive, music-loving female speaks volumes to my current lack of a dating life. I had a fantastic time etching my way into a piece of Chicago broadcast history and I think most everyone would feel the same.

We arrived on time, were seated, and the concert started on time. The acoustics are great and our seats were in a good spot. We used their concession stand to get water and snacks - because we bought our tickets and paid for the concessions using a Chase card, we were given a big discount - nice. We'll continue to go to the Chicago theater when they have shows we want to see. It's a great theater and a wonderful experience.

I like its ornate décor, the stadium style seats set-up which offers good stage view, the acoustics, and the overall aesthetics of this venue which makes it an ideal place to watch live events. On my recent (late June 2026) visit to see The Human League, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet for the Generations tour, overall, I had a good experience. There were couple of issues that we had such as lack of cool air circulation inside the auditorium (it was hot and sweaty) and a couple of people standing throughout the show to dance, blatantly blocking other peoples' view and not caring about being inconsiderate and uncourteous to people behind them to which the theatre ushers had no problem with it. Otherwise, I have not had issues at this venue. So, 4.5 stars but rounded up to five. I look forward to going back here.

There were a lot of parking attendants in the lot and security staff when we got there. The inside of the theater has stairs to the second floor / balcony area and stalls for drinks and food. We only purchased two water bottles $17 total which is hefty but you're not allowed to bring in food or drinks. There were only drinking fountains but no water bottles filling stations. The theater itself does not have enough air conditioning for the size so it was quite humid and hot in the space especially for an almost sold out show. The area outside the theater does have air conditioning. There's only two small elevators and the outside theater space is all carpeting. The seats are relatively small but did have good cushioning. We appreciated the balcony seats because even if you're seated behind taller people you can still have great view of the stage. If you want to be close to center view in the balcony, book in section 206 in seats 8-10. We waited a bit after the show to avoid the crush of people leaving the venue which worked out well. We had parked near the stage entrance to get a glimpse of the performers leaving and then could leave right after.

I haven't been to the Rosemont Theater in forever, but I do recall it always being a positive experience. Parking?: Decently priced and close to the entrance Security?: Present enough to make you feel safe. The process for checking bags and being [metal detector] wanded was smooth. Merch?: Conveniently located in the main lobby, well displayed, and smooth to make a purchase. I had eaten dinner prior to arriving, but the concession stand looked to have decently priced snacks. The theater looks a little um, retro(?), but it was a gift to be in a beautiful theatre over a giant sports stadium. The sound quality was great, the seats were comfortable, and I could see Charlie very well, even if I chose to sit during a slower song due to the staggered, stadium seating. Traffic on the way there was a little slow due to a concert at Allstate Arena, the Chicago Dogs home opener, and Anime Central, but that was on me to be responsible and leave at an appropriate time. I had looked up the set list on SetlistFM so I knew there was no encore. As soon as that last note of "Changes" rang out into the air, I was a cloud of myself as I briskly walked to the car to get out of the parking lot, haha. What a joy to enjoy a concert and be back on my own driveway in 23 minutes!

They've got a lot going on here- the students seem to be the DJs and they bring their own flavor of music with them. So don't expect to hear the same thing over and over and over and over like some of those top 40 stations. There's a good chance you'll never hear a song twice on here. Eclectic! There's some weird stuff on here. My favorite part is sort of the laid back attitude of the DJs. They're not all polished and professional like those Top 40 stations. Since it's a community radio station, they don't have advertisements every few minutes, like those Top 40 stations. In fact, they don't have any! It's all public service announcements, reminding you not to drive without a seat belt, or to wear a bicycle helmet. If you don't happen to be on the DePaul campus, you can still listen to this radio station on your smart speaker, or on their website, or even on their dedicated app!

It was a lot of fun. The bad part is that the FCC really limited our FM signal, which meant I was broadcasting to a 6 block radius and the poor students eating in the cafe. Fast forward to 2013 and I am actually listening to DePaul Radio on my iPhone as I am writing my review. That is just crazy because I'm at least 2 miles away from the station. In fact, you can now hear this station worldwide on iTunes or watch them on a webcam. What a great opportunity for these future broadcasters. I hope they appreciate this because I would have been so excited for this kind of exposure. I have not been in the new station but it looks much nicer then what I was broadcasting from. We also had to splice tape too for our sport shows and interviews. I am sure the new studio is all digital. Handling the sports back then was fun. Larry and I would rolled up to the Rosemont Horizon (now called the Allstate Arena for all you young DePaul students) for the Mens Blue Demon basketball games with our press badges around our neck. We even got press parking right next to the stadium. It was even fun to get to eat with the real professional sports writers. Yes they feed us. This is the life! I had some great moments in my college radio career. I truly enjoyed interviewing an upset Alonzo Mourning after his Georgetown team got beat by DePaul. Yeah we had some good basketball teams in the past. I really wish they could return to the glory years. I also loved covering the women's basketball team too. I always enjoyed my one on one interviews with Coach Doug Bruno. He was always animated and a lot of fun. So my advice to these young broadcasters is this: learn as much as you can and do internships. Soak all of this in because it all changes in the real world. These will be some of your most memorable times, so enjoy every moment. I've got you tuned in and I'm enjoying it. Keep on spinning those records (those are those round things...no not CDs! Oh wait your probably spinning MP3's! Digital makes you life so easy!)
