These guys make a MIGHTY sandwich! Tried the meatball, chicken parm and steak sandwich. My favourite was the meatball sub for sure. All three sandwiches were HUGE!!! Great quality sandwich, loaded, that's for sure. The only reason I didn't give them a 5-star is that the flavour profile for these sandwiches wasn't what I was looking for. I've had better versions of these sandwiches elsewhere, but... no one builds such an impressive sandwich like Chicago Deli. You definitely need to go here! read more

There are 2 sandwiches with the same name but a number on the end. I must have clarified the number and was given the wrong sandwhich. The person who took my call did not confirm which sandwich it was also. I didn't realise the mistake until I got home. I called and mentioned the issue and said I would come back for the correct one. The man hung up on me without a word. Picked up the sandwhich and I apologized and said I hadn't realized there was two with the same name. Nothing from him and then charged full price for the sandwhich. I was more than willing to pay again but an apology would have been nice as we were both in the wrong. read more

I've been a big fan of Chicago Deli Express for months: fresh made sandwiches, chicken parm and pasta and they always go the extra mile making sure your order is right. They've been in my weekly rotation for a while and I always look forward to dinner from Chicago Deli Express. Tonight, I decided to deviate from my usual Medium Lakeshore Place, BLT sandwich, which is classic and amazing from here. Note: no matter what you get, get the bread toasted with garlic butter. It's epic! I decided to try the Medium Chicago White Sox, a sliced roast pork sandwich with mozzarella, bacon fried peppers and onions, chipotle mayo (I requested easy on the mayo, which was perfect), maple/bacon seasoning, with sliced apple chutney on the side (delivery and they packed it on the side so the sandwich wouldn't get soggy, score!). Read that again: Sliced roast pork on toasted garlic bread with mozzarella, bacon fried peppers and onions, chipotle mayo, maple/bacon seasoning, with sliced apple chutney. This is a sandwich that has changed the sandwich game. Never did I expect such a beautifully composed sandwich to arrive on my doorstep. The food at Chicago is fabulous but this was a cut above. The apple chutney plays off the salty bacon and savory peppers. The pork was moist and plentiful, the sandwich runneth over! That chutney is not to be missed, it is a Must. The apple balances the whole sandwich with beautiful, carefully measured sweetness. I can't love on this sandwich enough, eating it was an experience I can't wait to repeat. I don't know that I've been this excited about a sandwich in years. Do yourself a favor and add Chicago Deli Express to your rotation. Yaaassssss I love this little nook in the wall. The 2 things I suggest is to get the beef and cheese - chicago bull? Or whatever its called. But the trick is to get it with the garlic bun instead of the regular bun that it is served with. It is an extra charge but totally worth it. I tried it once with just plain bun and I was regretting that i didnt fork out the extra dollar or so. Other one i love is their tiramisu. While the food takes a bit longer from order to mouth than fast food places, the quality of the food is on par (or better) than big name restaurants in the area. The 18 inch sub is big enough to feed a big (read, hungry/fat) guy like me for two and change meals, and the pastas are not only filling, but extremely tasty. The owner, Mike, is extremely friendly, and is more than willing to customize his menu outside of the subs for customers. In addition, the bread is locally baked, the meatballs are handmade, and the man himself is a treat, both to speak to and do business with. His enthusiasm for his work is obvious, and infectious. Portion sizes are generous, food is delicious, amazing service, and on top of all that, it's reasonably priced. Just leave some tortellini for me. read more

My boyfriend and I came here today for the first time and will definitely be back. We were welcomed by the loveliest people who really took the time to explain the menu and offer suggestions. The subs were huge and amazing (we got both lunch and dinner out of our 12" subs). The toppings and buns were super fresh which makes all the difference. So many sauces to choose from!! Came here for lunch today, it was so incredible. The owner is so knowledgable and nice! He really made us feel welcome and gave incredible suggestions. Tried Chicago Deli Express for the first time last night. I asked my wife to pick me up a large 12" "360 Chicago" Meatball sub on her way home. Oooh my god. The sub was a weapon .. the meatballs were huge. This thing has some serious weight to it. It was amazingly tasty, and clearly fresh, top quality ingredients. I'm a big enough guy, and I just couldn't finish it all. I will definitely be trying more and more sandwiches and pasta from this place. Truly a gem in the heart of Durham Region. My wife and daughter each had a scoop for their London ice cream, and they were both going on and on about how amazing it was. Can't wait to try more of their menu. read more

This place is unreal. Didn't even know it was an Italian takeout restaurant until the new Italian window signs and flags outside the shop. But wow, I just had the veal parm sandwich for the first time and it was delicious. A good authentic veal parm for once. I recommend the fried hot peppers if you are in for a little spice. Chicago Deli Express has the best food, I have had to eat in the Whitby Ontario area!! Hugh subs, fresh pasta's, Lasagna, Shepherds Pie, and Ice Cream. I have had about every item on the menu, and it is all fantastic.(I can't even pick a favorite) I came from the US, and I had been working in the Whitby Ontario area for about 2 week, and had tried many local restaurants and fast food places, then I found the Chicago Deli Express I have eaten food from there every night for 6 weeks, and also had food catered to the job site I've been working at, for the entire crew of 16 people, everyone agreed the food is great, also the owner Mike is a great guy, and good conversationalist also Mike and his staff, are all friendly people, they make you feel right at home at their place of business. in other word it's great food and a great experience also!!! read more

So I was pretty surprised to see every review at 5 stars and thought that doesn't make sense.... but it does! First off service is first class. They were helpful with everything as I was catering for a dozen people for lunch. Everything was ready on time, packed and fresh and it was a hit with the crowd too. Had the meatball, chicken parmesan, and veal parmesan sandwiches with a few subs too and lasagne. I tried the spinach vegetable lasagne and it was delicious. Will definitely be back here! Got a lecture when I asked for provolone cheese about how expensive all the meats and cheeses were. Price was very high and not worth it for the quality. It also took about fifteen minutes from starting my order to actually getting my sub and I was the only person there. I was hoping for something special but didn't find it here. Thought maybe I'd come back and try a meatball sub because it might be more flavourful until I found out the sauce is straight out of a jar from the store. Pretty disappointing. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is outstanding. We catered a family gathering (chicken parmesan, two types of pasta and garlic bread) and everyone raved about it. The portions were very generous. In the past, we've tried their lasagna and meat cannelloni so we knew the chicken parmesan would be a hit. Mike and his team are the nicest people you could meet. Hmmm .... I wasn't impressed by the prices when I first arrived but I was determined to try a sandwich since I was eager to find a new gem in the Durham region. I went with the BLT and was sadly underwhelmed. Yes, everything is fresh but for $9.00 (6" sub) I would have liked some more bacon for sure! Two slices .. which made it unidentifiable to my taste buds among the lettuce, tomatoes and sauces. You would think if they are going to charge $$$$ for a sub they would at least turn down the a/c.
