This shop is outstanding. I needed a guitar engraved for a customer of mine. It was a gift to the groom from the groomsmen, engraved with a line from his favorite movie. Not only were they willing to do it, but do it days before the wedding. The were very generous with their time and assistance to make this happen. They worked closely with myself as well as the end customer. Firoz, the owner and Christine, the artist, did an amazing job. Excellent communication through the whole process, turned it around in a day and was very reasonable with pricing. Heading out of the country for a guys' golfing trip this week and had a last minute gift idea for them. Purchased black stainless steel flasks, but wanted a way to better commemorate the trip. Should have read the reviews first... totally overpriced for less than adequate service. They told me they have a $25 minimum and I should have asked why. I made the mistake of actually paying that much for 5 letters engraved on a circle patch that got glued to my silver bowl ... SO NOT WORTH IT and it will probably fall off in 2 months! I was so sad when I realized that I had been taken advantage of... this place is so disappointing it makes me sick. read more

I've been getting the same fantasy football trophy engraved for the past eight years. Each time it has costed me between $8-$10. Due to a recent move, I tried Chicago Award Source after seeing the solid reviews. I made the mistake of not asking for a quote up front. At the time of checkout, he asked for 4x the amount I paid in prior years. The new engraving contained 11 letters. It costed just under $4 for each letter engraved which I find to be a complete rip off. Not to mention the font is completely different than the font of the other names. I plan to remove the engraving plate and have the nine names redone because of this. read more

Wow, these people are really great! I reached out on a Tuesday via their website to inquire about getting a trophy altered for a Saturday event. I wanted to remake a trivia trophy to be a perpetual trophy that could be passed on with a new name added each year. Firoz called back immediately to discuss what I needed. I brought the trophy to the store on Tuesday, called them back on Wednesday to discuss price and pick up, and by Thursday it was finished. Picked it up on Friday, well in time for Saturday's event. Wanted to get a silver musical jewelry box engraved with my niece's name. I paid the $30 or so dollars up front, told them I wanted her name in the center of the heart on the top, and left it - and I should have thought of this, but I don't engrave everyday - they didn't ask me about exact placement, font type, font size before I left the store. But they did call me back, to tell me there would be an additional $30 upcharge for a different type of engraving, but wouldn't waive the fee since I had already been charged and left. I asked about them waiving, nobody could answer my question, nobody returned my call, and it wasn't until I called back and got the framing guy that I realized they had not talked about font, placement, etc. with me, that they just didn't have the capability to do this, and that the engraving side of this business is bunk. I took the music box to Things Remembered off of Touhy and that guy did it right there, in store, for $20. He talked with me about font, placement, gave me a preview, and did it right there, in front of me, in the store in about 5 minutes. I thought I'd support a small business in the city, but it turned out much better for quality and customer service to go to the corporate spot. read more

I very happy with the award I received from Chicago Award Source. Before ordering from CAS, I ordered an award from a big discount engraving place I found online. I paid a ton for faster shipping so that the award would definitely be done in time for an organization event. Long story short? This other place completely dropped the ball, and hadn't even MADE the award by the date I was supposed to have received it! I started calling around to different local shops to see if someone could turn around an award with less than 1 full business days notice. I called up Chicago Award Source at 1:00pm on a Friday, explained my situation, and was given the direct contact information for Firoz. A short conversation later, Firoz promised they could have the award finished by the next day. The award turned out beautifully and they delivered on their super speedy timeline. Though it broke my budget, I was impressed by their speed and accuracy and would recommend them to anyone looking to get a custom engraved award done quickly. (Just don't tell them you'll write a yelp review unless you plan to write one IMMEDIATELY...Firoz has sent me numerous emails requesting me to write this review and despite planning to write one when I found time this week, I have to say the constant requests dampened my enthusiasm for CAS a bit) read more

Do not have anything engraved here. I made a request to have two words engraved onto a knife. When I picked up the knife the part that had been engraved wasn't noticeable at all. It looked like someone who had no experience tried to engrave something for the first time. The two words had also been engraved with different outlines, and therefore, what had been engraved onto the knife didn't even match. The knife is now ruined on the side that was engraved, and the owner was not willing to try to fix it. The best part is that the owner tried to charge me $71 for this. I paid $30 to basically get my knife back since I had already paid for this and was giving it as a gift to someone. I took this disaster to BETS on Belmont. They were empathetic and amazing. Although this couldn't be fixed they engraved the other side for $15, and it looks beautiful. read more

I was recently looking for a place that would do some engraving/etching on some sets of glassware and came across Chicago Award Source. The glasses in question were simple Old Fashioned glasses (just like those with the FedEx label on their website) and I wanted to have some initials etched in to give them as a gift to a friend. I brought the glasses in and spoke to Alex who said it would be no problem at all. Except, he told me that the first glass would be $50 and each subsequent glass would be $35!! For my set of 16 glasses, the total cost would be $575!! I said thanks anyway and headed home. After less than 2 minutes of some searching on the internet, I found a company on the outskirts of the city who would do it for $5 per glass or $80 (http://www.bets-engraving.com). Same laser engraving process, same result. Huge price difference. So big in fact that I called Alex back and asked if it was too good to be true. Maybe there was a big difference in the tools used to do etching that I wasn't aware of. Basically Alex said there wasn't any difference in the tools used, laser is laser. When I asked why the two prices were so different he just said that he can charge that much because people are willing to pay it. He seemed to indicate that people were commonly surprised by the high cost but apparently, they still fork it over because they've been in business (according to the website) since 1981. I characterized his prices as "gouging", which of course, he didn't agree with and I told hm he had lost my business because of it. He just said he didn't set the prices. Anyway, do yourself a favor and avoid this place for any engraving/etching. It's a total ripoff and they know it. They only get away with it because people are too lazy to do more research or drive a few miles further. read more

I needed some plates engraved for some trophies and needed them that same day. Firoz worked with me directly and printed them while I was standing there.
