Looking for a frame to compliment a print is a tedious chore as there are so many places in Chicago to choose from. I was able to find Prints Unlimited and Jill was able to narrow down my selection like a puzzle sorting out different color mattes and frames. Jill was able to quote me a price minus a check-in discount (under $600) which made this final product come to life. The final product was mention to take 3 weeks but after 2 weeks, I got the call to come pick the print up. I am glad Prints Unlimited made this process easy and the price was very affordable. Bunny Powers is amazing and I love her. She worked at (managed/owned?) a frame shop in the Loop for ages. Our friend recommended that we go to her and she took great care of framing our three HUGE prints. Now she works at Prints Unlimited. I recently brought a large painting to Bunny at Prints Unlimited. The painting was so large that we had to put down the seats in our car and needed two people to put in or take it out. Bunny immediately knew just what I needed: a black floating frame. She took careful measurements and did calculations. Additionally, our painting was warped and needed to be re-stretched. She gave me 20% off. I felt confident that everything would be done to perfection. Bunny and I emailed back and forth about the status of the framing. She called when I could pick it up about a week later. Other employees were at the shop when I picked it up. The painting was wrapped in cardboard and brown paper like a present. We brought it home and we were delighted that it was no longer warped and looked AMAZING in the frame (see my before and after pictures below). Unfortunately, it wasn't perfect. The frame was warped on the top and bottom - bowing outward away from the painting. Also, there was a pink mark on the corner of the artwork that was not there before. Long story short - Prints Unlimited fixed all of it, but it was SOOOO obnoxious and disheartening. We had to bring the painting back to the shop and pick it up again. Bunny would never have let the painting leave the shop without first being inspected for quality craftsmanship and it's too bad she wasn't there when I picked it up the first time. read more

This place is delightful. The staff are super helpful, and the end product is excellent. I needed a certificate framed, and I wanted bright red, so I was cautious about the place I went. Red can be tough to match, and there are not always good options for frame styles. But Jill was extremely helpful, showing me all kinds of options, very patiently and helpfully getting me to the right frame for my needs. I had also explained that there was a time constraint - I was hoping to present the framed certificate in a week. Jill was honest about the limitations (they had to order part of my frame), but promised to get it done as quickly as possible. As it turns out, they were done 3 days early, and were very quick to let me know and facilitate the pick-up. In addition, the price was absolutely fair. Quality usually doesn't come at a steep discount, so I didn't expect that, but I was happy with the price they gave me. While I was there, I saw a really nice print, already framed and on sale, that I bought on impulse. Great decision - it's hanging in our entry, and I LOVE it! They did a beautiful job framing that, too - I didn't even know I wanted it, and I'm so happy they had it, and now I have it! Love this place - will continue to go there for framing. I brought in two pieces, an old map and my diploma. I was on a budget and the staff member was very understanding and friendly. I couldn't decide on what colour to choose as the background colour for my diploma and I finally settled on gold and black after trying 5 different colours. She was amazing with her suggestions and very patient with me...that takes a lot of patience! They also have a great glass selection, my map is gold and it would reflect a lot of light, the glass it had on the frame did not help. She suggested the museum glass, it has worked amazingly great even after almost a year with no cleaning (I'm a lazy person). Prices are amazing for the quality, I've been to more expensive places that provide the same quality of frames but lack the great customer service. This was my first time getting anything professionally framed. I've long drooled over those large Chicago Neighborhood posters and finally bought myself one... I needed to get it framed. Not only was the woman who worked at the store/gallery helpful over the phone by taking time to give me an estimate based on what info I could give her, she was equally helpful when I went into the store. They had the best prices of all the stores I phoned and as it turned out they had a pre-framed version of the same poster I bought and it turned out to be cheaper than my poster and a separate frame combined! I cheerfully bought my new framed Chicago Neighborhood poster (which she informed me were probably not going to be produced much longer because the artist who was doing them closed up shop) and plan on returning my originally purchased unframed poster to Amazon.com. Can't say enough good things about Bunny and Prints Unlimited Galleries. Recently bought a black and white Hermon Leonard photo that I have been eyeing for years - signed, limited edition. So really wanted to have it framed well and protected. We decided to try Prints Unlimited and really lucked out. Bunny was extremely knowledgeable about the best options and made several suggestions in different price ranges but without being at all pushy for us to buy the higher priced frame and glass. But given the value of the photo, we wanted to show it off and bought the higher priced option. Right on time a few weeks later we had our framed photo and it was just beautiful - exactly what we wanted. We liked the service so much we brought in a larger vintage poster reprint that I had framed at The Great Frame It or one of those self-serve places years ago. And it looked self-serve. The frame bowed out with the plexiglass separated and the frame itself was nothing to speak of. Brought it in, went with one of Bunny's recommendation and again in a few weeks and right on time, we had our posted in a handsome new frame without the bowing. Would go back to this store in a heart beat for any framing we would need done. Not only is Bunny knowledgeable, she is very professional, very nice, and a ton of fun to talk with. In college, it may have been acceptable to tape posters & prints on the wall. I guess we're at the point now where we're adults and we want to get things framed. However, I don't necessarily want to pay an arm and a leg for it. I recently purchased a print (18 X 24) online for a friend's upcoming birthday and then set off to find places to frame it. Wow, I was not expecting it to be so expensive! I was quoted ridiculous prices across the city, and through reading some Yelp reviews, found Prints Unlimited Galleries. So I decided to drop by for a quote as various reviewers had found success here. The moment I walked in I was greeted by Jill who was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I let her know that I did not want to pay a ton for framing, considering what I was getting framed was not very expensive. She gave me various options - sticking to my low budget and gave me 2 quotes - both with/without matting. Initially, I was only going to do framing but she did such a perfect job matching the matting to the print and for the extra $20 or so, I went with it. I really liked how she took the time to explain things to me and never pressured me to purchase a more expensive frame, or pay for extras such as preservation, etc. that I didn't need for this particular print. I really appreciated that! I was able to get this gift framed & matted for a little over $80 - almost half of what I was quoted elsewhere. The print was ready to pick up in less than a week & I couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. It looked better than we thought it would and it was ready to hang with a sturdy backing. I will definitely come back here for any future framing needs. If you need something framed - definitely give this place a try. My daughter told me she had a poster that she wanted to frame simply and quickly and I took it to her nearest different frame shop (NOT Prints They quoted her $99 plus tax for a simple, thin frame without matting. I thought she could do it more cheaply elsewhere. They shrugged and told her they had "comparable pricing to nearby stores" and that "no one could do this job for less than about $90". Turns out, they don't have comparable pricing! Prints Unlimited charged $64 for the framing. Total. Including tax. Plus, the salesperson, Jill, is very nice. For a minimal look on a tight budget Jill suggested a dry mount, which she described as mounting my print to a piece of MDF board with a 1/2 inch black bevel border around the image. The back of the board had notches along the top for easy hanging. She is very knowledgeable and assessed the process with care, which led me to an informed, quality decision. I can't recommend this place enough for two reasons: 1) Price. We initially went to another 5 star rated custom framing store on Yelp and we were stunned by the price quoted. We then went to Michaels (note: no one ever pays full price at Michaels look for coupons online) and the options they had were inferior. Prints Unlimited gave us the best price. 2) Input/Service/Help. After being stunned by the 1st price quote we received (at a different store), we were resigned to looking for the cheapest framing option. The owner at Prints Unlimited taught us some basic framing principles (pick the frame to match the art, not the room) and suggested a different framing option (shadow box with a mat) that aesthetically worked much better than our initial 'go with the cheapest option' mindset. He was respectful of our budget, respectful that we knew little about framing, and gave his sincere input to help us make the best decision possible. Had we not gone to Prints Unlimited, we likely would have paid more for an inferior frame. The value we received from this store went far beyond just a cheaper price. And the photos we had framed look just amazing, they complete our living room and look museum quality - we couldn't be more happy with how they look. read more

Great place... Jill and Sara are always fun to work with. They have a huge selection of frames. Lower priced stuff for the kids paintings/posters and higher end frames for the finer pieces. I framed a pretty big poster for a hundred bucks, not sure how they stay in business with prices that low! I love how everything is wrapped in paper when you pick it up, makes it easy to sneak gifts in the house for the big reveal later. Thanks for the years of ever changing artwork in the window too.
