Traditional breaky

After hearing rave reviews from my brother and knowing my colleagues frequent this place every fortnight for breakfast, it was a no brainer for me to come check it out. Only dined here for dinner, i wasn't sure what to expect for breakfast. Going by the dinner prices, I knew it would be on the pricey side. But I am always happy to pay for quality and creativity. Customer service was ultra friendly, from confirming our booking to attending our hospitality needs. Attention to detail was worth noting. I didn't want anything too heavy, as I had lunch plans, so I settled on the Traditional Breakfast, which was bacon, eggs (your way), grilled tomatoes and toasted ciabatta. Other good looking dishes included the herb scones which might be their winter breakfast special; gatto di patate (sweet potato cake, poached eggs, kale sautéed with chilli, top with sweet potato crisps, with rocket and dill salad) and a gluten free traditional breakfast. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Nods of approval all around. For those wanting to start their or continue their drinking weekend, breakfast cocktails are available. For the quality and service, with a changing specials board, I will be back for breakfast!

This place is an Adelaide institution and a notorious hang out for suits who attended the handful of prestigious boy's schools in and around the city. It is even the preferred haunt of radio personalities, column writers and other minor celebrities bred in our fair state. As indicated by the name (which I have always found to be somewhat ironic - with the wine, Chianti, at times attracting a suspect reputation) the menu boasts solid Italian inspiration and flavours. This said- such dubious patronage should not be held against the friendly, professional and knowledgeable team at Chianti. The dozen, or so experiences I have had at this top notch Restaurant have lived up to its excellent reputation. As a student, I used to live around the corner and frequented the restaurant a few times for breakfast (being the only menu I could afford). The staff were always accommodating and the eggs Florentine / Benedictine were fresh and poached to perfection with the hollandaise tasting every bit like it was made from scratch on the spot. The mandarin juice and Italian hot chocolate are especially notable beverage offerings which I have always enjoyed. In recent years I have dined here for the most part at dinner time and am assured by my friends and colleagues who join me that the pasta selection is delicious. I, however notoriously opt for dishes such as, slow roasted beef cheek and fish stew. I am also a big fan of specials and will often order these, as they are likely to be fresh and well thought out, prepared with care and attention. I love sitting outside, even in winter and huddling under the blankets provided, but there is also ample seating inside for the less adventurous. Chianti is packed for almost every service, so make sure you phone and book to ensure the best possible experience! Enjoy!

I am quite shocked at the ratings and reviews on here - wow. It seems like most people had extremes with Chianti - it's either ravingly good or incredibly bad. Fortunately, I had the most fantastic experience! I came here for my birthday dinner last week. Made a booking three days prior as I've heard it can be quite booked out, and they made sure to ring me every day to make sure the booking was still valid, which was nice. Upon arrival, we were ushered in by the nicest girl who had an amazing and bubbly personality to match. We were served some lovely homemade sourdough and a zucchini canapé while waiting for our food. Both were delicious. For entree we got the Frutti di Mare in Brodo (that broth is just yum), the polenta (holy moley, the sides of the polenta are just charred to perfection and the whole thing is just beautifully salted) and the parpadelle pasta which was a special of the day. All of them were gorgeous. Granted, it was a good 20-25 mins before the mains come but it wasn't an uncomfortably long wait. We got the slow cooked rabbit which wasn't too bad. For a slow cooked meat it was still probably a bit tough. We also the blue swimmers crab pasta which was yum as well. For dessert we got the sweet ginger ice cream slice with brandy snaps. It was heaven on a dish. I had my apprehensions about the ginger component but it went beautifully with the rest of it. The waitress also gave us some complimentary chocolate balls on a dish that said 'happy birthday' in Italian. That absolutely made my night. We also got some raspberry sorbet palette cleansers before dessert which in itself was a delight. Overall, it was a classy, classy joint. A bit on the expensive side, but so worth it for a special occasion.

Fancy place to host a brunch.the poached egg spicy kale and potato cake were delicious.i am looking forward to returning to trying other items on the menu and returning for breakfast. Wonderful service. I didnt appreciate the "tipping" option on the tablet when paying for the meal, as i feel it should not be pushed in tje customers face whilst the waiter/waitress is watching, however the serive provided is worth tipping for if you are one who tips.

Both my companion and I found the meal bland and over priced. We came for breakfast once and it was great but now I wouldn't return.

I was already starting to know, I was in for a good meal. (Later I found out I was wrong, because I had an outstanding meal! ) I tasted all of the meals on the table and they were all sensational. See pics. The service was impeccable. Very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about each dish I asked about. The desserts were to die for. (I ate them too quickly for pics.) My hips will thank them later. I walked past the kitchen on my way out to say thank you to the chef but all I could find back there was a young lady who is young enough to be my daughter. Wow! The chef is young and beautiful and somehow creates these most incredible dishes. She really is a talent. And, she's co-owner. I love that! I urge you to go check this restaurant out. Family owned and operated, each meal is made from only the freshest ingredients and served with a huge smile and a warm, "enjoy!". Prices are reasonable so no need to wait for that special occasion. Although, I know you'll still want to celebrate your special days there. Located right below the theaters, you can make an evening out of it with a movie and a dinner. They are open Tues -Sun. I've taken a book to this place once or twice and have had a comfortable read whilst seated outside. The interior is well decorated and has warm, earthy tones to compliment the establishment's Italian roots. The menu features many of the classic Italian pizza and pasta selections, as well as creative renditions of other popular main courses. It was a good place to have a big group of people catching up, but I have to agree with the others - the ambiance is somewhat lacking. It was lucky that it was a warm weekend night and there were lots of people in the restaurant, which helped the atmosphere greatly, but the restaurant is essentially one giant room with lots and lots and lots of.... white. The wood oven is still visible in the back, which is a good thing, but it does need some colour and character. However, I really enjoyed the food and the wine and would recommend it for a tasty meal!

I have been fortunate enough to dine outside in the tiny courtyard which appeals to my love of outdoor dining and also means that you can escape the noise created by fellow diners in a packed restaurant. This space is a little dated and that just increases my love for it even more, it's so comfortable and inviting, providing good, honest Italian fare. Just like Nonna made.

As good as a slice can be, Ambrosinis have been bringing the likes of bresaola, stratcciatella and traditional pasta to their tables for over 20 years. Amabile, patriarch of this cosy cottage eatery, was this year awarded "Individual, Hall of Fame" at Restaurant and Catering SA's Awards for Excellence. Born in an alpine valley of the Lombardy region, he trained in classic European cuisine in St Moritz. He migrated to good ol' Adelaide and now at age 79, heralds three generations at Ambrosini's. Can you imagine it? Three generations of your family working together - in a commercial kitchen! Brava. Dishes are big on flavor while pretty to the eye. Amabile is particular about presentation and passionate about herbs, many from his lovingly tended garden. His Genovese specialty of sautéed, sliced veal in lemon juice, aromats with a basil chiffonade, and rounds out with spinach, pine nuts and pecorino. Speaking of rounding out, it is easy to go the whole nine yards here - antipasto, seafood risotto, roast duck with orange glaze and garlic king prawns with brandy and saffron. The best part? You can feel comfortable enjoying comfort food in comfortable surrounds. Just writing this I feel the need to wipe away from my chin a glorious dribble of the nut brown butter from their homemade gnocchi with sage...mmm.

Other than Ambrosini's this is the only other one in the area and as Ambrosini's is Northern Italian I prefer this place (they do dishes from all over Italy). OK, the photo of the 'Nonna' in the marketing is dressed in an Eastern European outfit and I'm pretty sure the chef wasn't Italian (stop press, he's half Italian) but he was sure trained in Italy as this place is like being in Italy and everything is made from scratch not out of a tin like the cafes on the parade.
