A friend treated me to a visit here on Valentine's Day. We went for a detox session. I wasn't sure what that was, but a gift is a gift. I've passed the place a million times going down Coburg Road and have always been curious. The lobby area is very small, but the double doors leading into the inner area are intriguing. Our session started right on time. We we escorted in to a dimly lit area where soothing background music was playing. I was already becoming more relaxed and nothing had even happened yet. We were seated in very comfy chairs with basins of water ready at our feet. The therapists made sure that the temperature was just right, eased our feet in, and attached a monitor of some sort to our wrists. Then it was literally zone out time for about 30 minutes. Once the time was up, the therapist came back, dried our feet, and discussed the detoxification that had taken place. It's was pretty interesting session, not to mention extremely relaxing. I will definitely go back and will probably try the full foot reflexology treatment next time around. read more

My husband and I just got done with a 90 min. couples massage for our anniversary. I had Christian as my therapist. Apparently he is relatively new to the spa, but has had experience elsewhere. I've had my fair share of massages in the past, and I am not exaggerating when I say he delivered THE BEST massage I've ever had! It's almost like he was "reading" my body and knew all the areas I needed work on without me having to tell him. The pressure was firm, but not too much or even painful. My husband had Tanya, who is also new to the spa. My husband has also had many massages before, so knows when someone is good and when someone is great. He said she delivered an average to good massage. I love that they don't push a "membership" like other spas, are reasonably priced, have a nice clean and calm environment, and that you can schedule online. Oh - they are also open all weekend, which is so helpful when trying to fit a massage into your schedule! Their receptionist was super friendly and helpful, too, adding to an overall great experience. We will definitely be back here for more! read more

I went to Chi Spa for a "Chinese Massage" because I purchased a Groupon deal for it. I like trying new places, and was excited for the new experience. Went I walked in, I was greeted nicely and offered water, filled out paperwork and didn't wait long for my massage therapist. The lobby gave me the impression that it was a chain, not locally owned. I asked later, and it turns out they are not a chain, of which I was surprised to hear....because I felt like a product, not a client, and I felt like I was given a "cookie cutter" service...didn't feel like much of a very warm, relaxing, or accommodating environment. I felt like I was just being checked off their list of things to do. My massage therapist did not introduce himself, or make eye contact. He guided me back to the massage room and explained how to use this weird, portable sauna thingy and said I'd be in there for 20 minutes and that he'd bring me water. I did as I was told, and he did bring me a teeny, tiny dixie cup of water. Considering the heat outside, and the 20 minutes in a hot sauna, I would have expected more water. Plus, it felt unsafe to be zipped up in this bizarre space like machine sauna, nude, sweating like crazy, secluded in some corner of the spa with no call button or help button if something were to go wrong or if I felt I was going to pass out. I am young and healthy, but it could be dangerous for someone who isn't. Then after that weird experience, I laid onto a massage table and the massage therapist began massaging my upper back and shoulders....FOREVER. It started out feeling ok, but he had strong hands, and had some good movements, but my muscles were overstimulated or something because it got to the point where they were tightening back up and I got a headache half way through the massage. As far of the rest of the massage, it was mediocre, some things felt good, but he kept massaging parts that just weren't relaxing, like my inner wrist and inner thigh...it just was bizarre, so I wasn't relaxed....there wasn't music until half way through the massage, and as far as I can tell, I have no clue what made this massage "Chinese". He didn't consult me on my preference of pressure, or areas I wanted him to focus on. He gave good advice on carpal tunnel exercises I could do. I think he could be good as his job, but he is young and perhaps inexperienced and needs to work on communication, professionalism, greeting, meeting his client's needs, technique, etc. He also did not do any type of good bye/thank you/ come again sometime. Bottom line, I won't be going back, when I was asked if I'd like to schedule another massage, I just said thank you and walked out. I didn't even know my LMT's name until it came time to provide a tip. I will from now on ALWAYS go to Gervais. There is no place better for spa or hair services. There I feel welcomed, relaxed, rejuvenated, special, well cared for, greeted with kindness and professionalism. My only motivation for writing this review is so that maybe the owners or managers or employees of Chi Spa will take this constructive criticism and make their spa better. read more

I was very unhappy with my last experience at Chi Spa. I had requested a certain massage therapist (Michael) when I set up this appointment. They said they would do their best to meet my request. When they called the day before my appointment, I double checked that my massage would be with Michael and they said yes it would. When I showed up it was a different massage therapist. She assured me that she was well trained and would do a great job. I was already there, so I decided to say okay. What a big mistake that was! If I wanted lotion rubbed on my body, I could've done it myself. The pressure was very weak and that is why I had requested a male massage therapist. Also, the relaxing music stopped half way through the massage and I was left listening to people in the waiting room and the clock ticking in the massage room. After my massage I discussed my displeasure with Michael because he was at the front desk. He wasn't there when I'd arrived for my massage. He said he would do something special for me next time. Not to mention I didn't trust leaving my tip for Tony with her (I left 25 for you btw so hopefully you got it!) Now on to the real reason I am writing this review..... TONY!!! Holy yes. Absolutely the best massage I've ever had. Perfect pressure. Extremely professional. Very knowledgeable. I am so beyond impressed with him. He's so young and so cool! I've never had someone who was able to really work on areas without being overly painful. He even massaged my butt and I didn't die of ticklishness. He got all the pressure points and rubbed my shoulders better than anyone I've ever experienced! He moved my arms in all different positions to get different muscles in my shoulders that I didn't know existed. I am going back very soon and I'm telling everyone about him!! I was so disappointed in my experience. I purchased two groupons for the reflexology massage and the ionic foot bath for my boyfriend and I. When I called to make the appointment they confirmed that we could do them at the same time side by side. A couple of days before the massage they call to tell me they have a therapist out for an emergency and need to reschedule. Ok no big deal things happen. So I confirm again that we will be able to do both appointments at the same time with the new date. No problem. They call me again two days before to change the time of our appointments and ask if we can come earlier. Again I am flexible and we decide no problem we will make plans to meet with friends after. I again confirm we will be at the same time. We arrive early to our appointments the girl behind the desk checks us in and says "you know your one right after another right?" I tell her no that I confirmed three times we would be together. She tells me they don't have enough staff to do that, blames the owner and then calls the owner in front of us tells the owner there is only one therapist available since the other person is in training. They decide to give me the new guy who smells like smoke, has no idea what he is doing and limps along following the guy who is experienced. At the end of a terrible massage with horrible atmosphere they inform us the ionic foot bath is broken and needs repair so they upgraded our foot bath. Information that would have been helpful to know ahead of time. Save your money walk across the street and get a spa pedicure at City Nails. Trust me! read more

Truly the WORST experience I've ever had at a spa. I'd give it less than 1 if I could. My boyfriend had bought a couple's massage for us a few weeks back as an anniversary gift and I was excited for it. Part of the package included a foot spa which neither of us really wanted, but hey it was included. They barely explained what the process was so we were just left waiting there for 30 minutes wondering if we were about to be electrocuted. Also they placed towels over our legs because "we weren't supposed to breathe in the gasses from the reaction." Yeah, that's real calming. Not only were we left in an open room with another woman placed a seat away from us, we were far away from each other and strapped up to weird electrical wires. The room itself was situated between the main door to the lobby and other back rooms with nothing more than curtains dividing us. Employees regularly walked back and forth, slamming doors and making the curtains fly all over the place, far from relaxing. The creme de la creme came from the fact that the bathroom was right next to us and not only could we hear the toilet flushing and the water running, we could actually hear people peeing! Truly disgusting. When that ordeal was finally over, our feet were taken out of the foot spa. To our surprise, out feet had been sitting in filthy water as the coil in the tank oxidized with the water (Yeah, it's just oxidation, not actually a process to get rid of "toxins". What a scam) To clean our feet off, they poured water over our feet. I was left with burns because the man hadn't checked the temperature of the water and poured near boiling water over my feet. My boyfriend was doused with ice cold water. We were then taken to a massage room and told to "get comfortable." This meant that we were standing alone in the room for 5 minutes trying to figure out if that meant we should be completely unclothed or what. Another added stress. The massage itself was far from a massage in my head. I'm not very knowledgeable in the types of massage but I had wanted a more deep tissue full rub down. What I got was a glorified form of assisted stretching. It did absolutely nothing for my back, which I had specifically asked to be worked on, and put me and my boyfriend in incredibly awkward positions as our massage therapists moved our limbs around. Keep in mind we could still hear doors slamming and the toilet running all this time. When that hell was finally over, we were left awkwardly in the room, not knowing if they would come back for us or if we were supposed to meet them in the lobby. We left those two hours more stressed, anxious, annoyed and knotted than we started. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I went to Chi Spa because it is close to my home, accepts insurance and offers deep tissue massage. I wanted SO badly to like this place, but I won't go back for several reasons. The massage room walls border the parking lot and the reception area, so you can hear car doors close, the phone ring and conversations...not unforgivable by itself. I was never given the name of the massage therapist, who did not seem unsociable, but she spoke VERY little English and that made it impossible to communicate. I am used to speaking with my therapist before the massage starts about what I'm looking for and trouble spots - didn't get any of that. I couldn't communicate bad pain vs good pain so when it hurt in not a good way and I said, "Ow! That hurts!", she pushed harder. I almost had to physically remove her hands. :( Her technique was good, if only I could have communicated with her I think it would have been worth going back. read more

I have tried to schedule a couples massage for three months and they keep canceling (did not book enough time once, therapist failed to show up one time, forgot to put me on the calendar once, lost my appointment and on and on). The manager has failed to ever return a call. After all this frustration and unprofessional behavior, I would never enjoy the massage. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a couples massage a week before Valentine's Day, I scheduled an appointment for my husband and I for about two weeks later with the spa owner. On our way to our appointment I called to let them know I was only a few minutes away. Then, the receptionist proceeded to tell me that not only did we not have an appointment for that day, but she couldn't find us in the system at all. After going back and forth for several minutes, and me being treated as if it were my fault, I was left with no answers, no explanations and get this...no apology! I requested that the owner call me right away and I was very vocal about how unhappy I was about not only the lack of organization and follow-through, but the overall phone treatment as well. A week later I still had not received a phone call, so I called them and they "took another message." It has been almost two months now, they already have my money, and I have been giving nothing in return, I have called 3-4 times and I have yet to hear from them. Here's a little customer service 101 tip, Chi Spa -- probably not a wise business/pr move to continually ignore an already displeased client/customer. Eugene is a small town, and in a competitive industry such as yours I'd start treating customers with more decency. read more

Please do not go to this spa for any services at all. They have the worst possible customer service. We arrived to panicked young man who told us that the other massage therapist that was scheduled to be there for our services had quit weeks ago. I had to suggest that he call his supervisor. The supervisor arrived and spent ten minutes clinking around on the computer and then told us that he could have a therapist there in fifteen min. He then proceeded to glare at us and basically said he could not help us other than for us to wait. It was already way after our appointment was to start. The place was dirty the therapist that was there could not have been more than 18 and was dressed in dirty clothes. We decided that we did not feel safe using their services and asked for our money back. He told us he could not help us but finally give us the number of the owner. We called them several times each time they said they would take care of us. They would not do what they said they would do. We would call back and the story would change. In the end it was clear they had no intention of doing the right thing and in fact had no problem lying to us. Please protect yourself from these people. If this is how they handle thier customers I can only guess on the quality of the service. read more
