Atmosphere is nice with ideal tables out on the balcony, and additional tables in the square with glimpses of the river. Some live music for those on the square. We appreciated the kids coloring sheets and colored pencils as a nice touch. The service was pretty slow - after being seated we waited over 20 minutes for menus alone. After ordering drinks took awhile but then food quickly followed. The food was not great, and didn't always follow what was listed on the menu. The Salade Nicoise was tasty with great fresh tuna and a warm salad of potato and green beans. However, the cordon bleu which we got to share between my husband and one kid was terrible! It had soggy frozen vegetables as a side and a cordon bleu that seemed mass produced, what an embarrassment especially at 46 CHF! Then the lemon ricotta ravioli was anything but - the menu said it had burrata, lemon and mint and instead it was a bland cream disaster with arugula on top. Absolutely no lemon or mint flavor whatsoever. We mentioned to the server that we were disappointed with the food and her response was "oh" and that was it.

Ksanet, Bianka and Rui were amazing in their own rights and definitely were humans first and Lumiere employees second and forth. Not only did they serve us but gave us a few moments from their tight schedules to walk us through about how we could make use of a Sunday ( Switzerland for the most part is closed on Sunday's and we were not prepared for that :( ). These folks had some amazing suggestions to make through and through and helped us a lot with our questions about Switzerland and travels in general. The ambiance was stunning and the place was packed and had moderate amount of noise in there attributing to the conversations. The interiors were pretty amazing and well thought out and depicted the history of Lumiere. We ordered a side salad, octopus with sliced potatoes, tuna tartare on avocado bed and for dessert we got ourselves the lime tart. The octopus dish was outstanding just like the tuna tartare where we enjoyed every bite slowly. The salad was put together very well and the dessert topped it all off to call it an evening. This place definitely should definitely be in your list to visit in Zurich and given its proximity to Zurich HB it's an easy decision to make ( even if you had to come out of your way to grab a bite here it will be so well worth it).

The food: the chef is definitely a magician of ingredients and presentation. I had my best risotto ever. The arugula added very exquisite taste to the risotto, and the lobster tail and scallops were very fresh. I also had the soup it was fantastic as well. I didn't know it's a Michelin star restaurant until I read the other review here, and I found it's true. From my Michelin restaurant experiences I think one star is very humble. Definitely should go there if you ever close to the area. There's peaceful and beautiful lake and this gourmet place to enjoy the food of the day. Especially for Americans, don't miss this gem, you know what I meant!

He got 17 Gault Millau points and a Michelin star because of his light Swiss cuisine that effortlessly integrates Asian elements and spices into it, without becoming a fusion or Eurasian cuisine. The amuse bouches were delicious, but the non-pastry highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the luxurious foie gras variation, the best of its kind. They offer a six-course gourmet menu for just CHF 140.-, great value for money. Be careful: You'll feel VERY full afterwards! The restaurant offers the best classic Swiss desserts I've had so far. What would be boring and lazy in other restaurants is made fascinating by the amount of love and attention put into the desserts. Marc Hohl, chef August Minikus' sous-chef, makes a cream parfait with figs in a spicy red wine jus that are just to die for! And their vanilla ice cream is the best in the country. Nothing comes close, not even Martin Surbecks famed vanilla ice cream. Very friendly service, supervised by the chef's lovely wife. The bread basket had plain white bread slices that were very fresh and very good. There was also a basket outside the bathroom with bite-size Daim bar candies, which we pilfered a bunch of every time one of us went to the bathroom. So yummy... We got Pommes Allumette (skinny fries, AKA matchstick potatoes) as a side, and the meat and fries were all-you-can-eat. They also served us an eggplant appetizer marinated in balsamic vinegar. Normally I don't like really sour things, but the appetizer was very tasty. One of my friends doesn't eat meat, so she ordered the fish, and that was also all-you-can-eat. Our table of 6 shared two bottles of red wine (Atalayas, Ribera del duero) and sparkling water, and the bill came out to about 85 per person (not including tip). Dress appropriately, because the heat from the grill will make you HOT. I'm glad I wore a tank top to dinner. All-in-all, good fun and good eats. The thin beef steaks are quite lean and don't have much taste on their own, so you need to eat them with all the condiments. I'm not a huge fan of the skinny fries, but they are very French, so we all got them as sides, since we were in a French restaurant. Make sure you make a reservation, because they were fully booked out on a Friday night.

When I came here I was not expecting too much since it was grilled, non-seasoned/marinated meat with some basic sauces plus fries. But oh my: the quality of the meat was amazing and the grilled beef was de-li-cious! I didn't even need any of the condiments, just the beef was enough. It was so good that I was craving it for days. That being said, the condiments were quite good too, I really liked the mustard fruit and the peppers, they really complimented the meat. And oh, the fries, they were tasty and crunchy so I was for sure a happy trooper! Also, the service was prompt and correct. I must admit that we went on a rainy weekday when there were not that many other people so I am not sure if it is representative. Anyways: even my "not-so-keen on beef" friend also liked it too so enough said... I enjoyed my evening at La Cote and would go back if the right opportunity comes up!
