I recently attended a program on decorating at Robb & Stucky featuring celebrity designer Thom Felicia. Before and after the program guests were treated to drinks and food. The food was catered by Chez Gourmet.
As soon as I walked in I was drawn to a table laden with a variety of cheeses, crackers, hummus, and other fare. There were several cheeses that I had never seen before. The star of the cheese tray was a large blue cheese that was absolutely delicious.
About eight servers with trays of food circled the room. Even though there was about a hundred guests everyone was served. Chez Gourmet did it right. I've been to so many events where a few people got most of the passed food. This experience proved that nobody has to be left out. I think the trick was having several servers on the floor at the same time, replenishing the trays immediately when they were empty, and the servers stopping by everyone to be sure nobody was left out. It also helped that the table with cheeses was set up so nobody was hungry.
The servers, both male and female, were neatly dressed in black. They were very friendly, smiled, and obviously took pride in their jobs.
The passed food was absolutely delicious. The trays were decorated with flowers and other accents. There was so much variety, yet there wasn't anything I didn't like. Bite size servings included pulled pork, Brie French toast, turkey and pineapple on a stick, dim sum, fillet mignon, cocktail franks, lox on cucumber slices, and pasta pockets with pear. I'm sure I forgot a few things. For dessert you could help yourself to mini pistachio and chocolate cupcakes.
If you need a caterer I highly recommend Chez Gourmet. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. read more
