I got the chai latte and others ordered coffee. The chai was good, it tasted fairly authentic actually with spices. None of the pastries were heated. This gorgeous little pastry shop is right over the walking bridge in Lambertville. There is an indoor seating area that is quaint and gives off a bistro feel. The pastries look like works of art on display. They have individual small options as well as full size cakes. We just got one thing but it exceeded my expectations - the pistachio croissant. Crunchy bottom and nice custardy center. They actually gave you a decent amount of filling. The inside was whatever - I like interior that is more lowkey and simple. It was pink, sparkly cutesy Paris. Service was minimal as I only bought take away. Lambertville is a small town in NJ which I happened to visit with a friend as an outing. It felt like a small American town sufficient in its self. It was a perfect weather and after lunch we decided to go for desserts. This is a perfect place to give us Europe feeling. This place has wonderful pastries and really cute tea and coffee service, but the interior décor is a bit on the tacky side. I stopped in while exploring Lambertville, and the dining area felt like it was trying a little too hard to imitate Paris with the wallpaper and knickknacks. I think they are a little overpriced on their food for the area. I would expect those prices in downtown Manhattan where the rents are astronomical. Service was ok, the place looked very clean although I was bothered as one employee who was male was wearing a hair net. All the other employees who were female with long hair had no hair nets on whatsoever. After reading some of the reviews I can understand that how some of the empty or the manager may be inattentive or even rude. I took home a pear danish and a cookie. They were good although was not better than most of the great bakeries I've been to in Brooklyn or Manhattan. I enjoyed this location way more than the OG in Princeton. It's roomier, brighter, and the staff is friendlier. Plus, you get to REALLY see everything before making a selection. Granted, it doesn't have that real Parisian patisserie vibe as the overcrowded Princeton location but it's ok. I can move in here! And find a seat! We have tried this spot a few times. Each time, I have wanted to love it, but it comes up short. I have noted in many reviews it is mentioned that service is rude. I haven't found this to be true...perhaps not warm and fuzzy but rather efficient. The space is very clean. The presentation of the desserts is beautiful. However, I have found the taste to be just average....not terrible but not spectacular either. We have tried a variety of cakes and tarts. I'm giving three stars for the pastries (outstanding), two for the breakfast sandwich (more on that to follow), one star for the coffee and no stars for the customer service. Now the details: The pastries are amazing. I had an almond croissant while I was there that was amazing. I purchased pistachio croissants to go and enjoyed them tremendously the next day. I'll be coming back to explore more of their pastry selection and you should too. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was good, but microwaved to the point where it was the temperature of the sun. I love a hot sandwich, but this was something else. Without exaggeration, it took at least 10 minutes before it was a reasonable temperature, and at that I had to disassemble it to get the meat and eggs to cool down. The drip coffee is good, but I felt my cappuccino was tasteless. For what they charged, it should not have tasted like fish water. Finally, the major flaw is the customer service. The employees are not pleasant. They do not make eye contact. They don't speak. And the cashier, in particular, seemed very annoyed by every customer request. While I liked several things about this business, they will not survive in this competitive coffee/baked goods environment of Lambertville/New Hope if they don't radically improve their customer service. Final tip: Definitely try them, but the customer service will leave you feeling disappointed. read more

Upon entering this store as first-timers, which was clean, bright, and inviting, it immediately transported us from the streets of Lambertville to a quiet corner of Paris. The display cases were bursting with an amazing assortment of high-quality baked goods of all sorts and tastes. The baker is a French-trained pastry chef who prepares croissants, macarons, and pastries with a focus on flavor instead of relying on a ton of sugar. The only difficulty was choosing which one to have. My partner and I decided on the Chocolate Raspberry Torte and Parisian Flan. 10/25/24: While walking around Lambertville, we stumbled upon Chez Alice. The place looked so adorable with a wonderful European flair. Just had to go in! : D So many wonderful luscious treats to choose from. The restaurant serves lunch and a *French tea (*think by reservation only). Chez Alice carries adorable gifts such as beautifully scented mini candles, teacups, stationary and much more.... We ended leaving with two croissants- one Pistachio and the other Cranberry. The ambiance was the only thing decent about this poor excuse for a cafe. You need to fire each of your front end staff. Their customer service was horrible. You stand there and wait for instructions on how/where to order, and they don't even look up to greet you or tell you to wait. They had a major attitude when we ordered. I wanted to grab something quick, so I ordered the quiche, and it was missing half of the ingredients on the menu. No crust or Gruyère cheese. It was pathetically dry. Nothing makes me happier than French pastries. I didn't try their high tea or French tea so I can only speak to their pastry items and their pineapple lychee cake. I was pleasantly surprised that the pineapple lychee cake had a good portion of lychee layered in and it paired well with a hint of pineapple so it didn't overwhelm the lychee. The cake itself was light in the sugar level like most French cakes. The "Opera" pastry was a nice compliment to my iced Mocha latte though I would prefer a different pastry moving forward. They were light on the coffee flavor both in the pastry and the mocha latte and the cream on the Opera was a bit hardened rather than fluffy. Salmon croissant was more flaky croissant than the salmon. The best was their lunch "Jambon art Fromage". Fresh, hot and delicious. The store is very cute with a cozy amount of seatings. The entrance has some really nice gift options. One unisex bathroom all the way in the rear area. Due to the large volume of people waiting to order mixed in with needing time to decide what to get from the large selections, the staff tried to be as patient as possible. I'll start by saying I've probably been to over a dozen different tea experiences. On this sunny fall morning, I took my wife for the L'Opera tea to celebrate her birthday with our daughter. Note that tea requires scheduling several days ahead and prepayment. This was probably my favorite tea experience I've ever had and I highly recommend it for those looking to celebrate a special occasion with an indulgent experience. Compliments to the chef! We sat by the window overlooking the canal and Lambertville station at a cozy table in the cafe. The tea options were in glass test tubes so you can see and smell them ; we chose the earl grey and mademoiselle rose green, both were great. The first course was savory Asiago and sweet blueberry scones with butter, lemon curd, and framboise jam. Surprisingly the lemon curd and Asiago was a great combo. Our waitress gave great recommendations on the tea and managed to deliver the massive tea sandwich tower with poise. The mushroom banh mi mini croissant was the stand out for me as this is probably the only tea service in the world where you can enjoy this special mini sandwich. The other savory sandwiches were also very tasty. The pastries were works of art - macarons, chocolate bon bons, mini napoleon. My favorite was the mini Madeline . There were so many sandwiches, pastries and cookies that we were unable to consume all of them, so we ended up taking some home. As it was my wife's birthday, they made her feel special with chocolate covered strawberries and a candle. When we got home, a few of the pastries accidentally fell on our floor. While this would normally result in throwing out any other food in our house... after less than 30 seconds of soul searching, we both decided that they were too good and must be eaten. We stopped in around 7 pm on a Sunday evening after having dinner in the area and were blown away by how great the desserts were, how helpful and kind the staff was and how adorable the inside was! We got the chocolate peanut butter mouse cake, strawberry tres leches cake, key lime tart, Boston cream cheesecake and ricotta cheesecake ... WOW! What a great option Chez Alice is in this area! The inside is wonderfully setup like a Parisian patisserie. The pastry case and bread shelves are visually appealing and the seating area was set up with good taste and a view of the canal path. The staff was a toss up. The one guy who looked like a manager had me confused. He didn't smile, acknowledged me, then took a phone call and walked away to the register. He appeared miserable and distant. Same guy as in a fellow yelpers picture with the vertical striped shirt. There were a lot of options to choose from and everything in the cases were neatly organized and had signs with descriptions and prices on the shelf. We had a young girl help us who was very nice and made up for the curmudgeon I had to deal with before. I like the uniforms! After we ordered she brought everything out to us. It's a French bakery so naturally the prices are high. The fee to use your credit card is a bit ridiculous. I think it was 3.5 or 4.25%, c'mon guys. The espresso I ordered was very good, the Rocher Financer needed a bit more flavor for me. It was a bit bland and inconsistent in it's flavor with most bites. My mom loved the mousse as did her friend. Before we left a man came to clear the table. He told us that they have a commissary kitchen that makes a portion of the desserts (shells) and then they are filled (creams/fillings) in house to ensure freshness. I'm pretty sure that's common with these types of setups. Makes sense also since they have more than one location. The espresso was so bitter it was undrinkable, and when I got home to dump it out, the bottom was filled with grounds. Chez Alice in Princeton has been our go-to for birthday desserts for years--but the service is really going downhill... Not planning to return after this. My last experience there, they messed up the birthday message on the cake ("Happy Birthday!" without the name I requested and spelled for them over the phone). I waited nearly an hour for them to try several times to fix it, and finally left with a "fixed" but messy looking cake message. I could go into way too much detail on this, but the bottom line is the worst part was the employee's dead fish expression and clearly "I don't care" attitude, making it feel like I was imposing a special request just asking for a mistake to be corrected for a friend's special day. I realize she is not the one who took the order or mis-wrote the message -- but it would be so easy to say something like hey, no problem, we can easily get that fixed for you, and quickly get a new birthday message written. It can't be that hard. PRO TIP: Skip this overpriced place and go to the bakery inside the McCaffrey's in Princeton Shopping Center. Their fruit tart and strawberry shortcake (ask for whipped cream, not frosting) are fantastic and so are the friendly, helpful people who work there. read more
