She loves taking walks in the historic section of Kensington, right behind the building, and walking to the Saturday farmer's market. Noise from the trains passing by so closely has not been a problem at all! In fact, she really likes watching them go by. She also really likes the fact that the town of Kensington has almost all the services she needs, so she doesn't have to go far. There are a few "growing pains" being so new, still hiring staff, but they are finding great people and constantly improving. This place really doesn't feel like a senior home, which is also appealing, and residents don't feel at all micro-managed or confined. Brand new. Although my mom is in independent living, she continues to hear great things from residents about their assisted living and memory care services as well. She likes the relatively small size of the facility. They have a driver to take people to local appointments, they show movies on Friday nights, offer several art classes, and more. The food is all made-to-order in the restaurant. Service is leisurely, but very pleasant. They have an in-house hairdresser, also fitness coach. It's all about the people, and that's really made it for my mom.

They think nothing of serving potatoes, rice, and pasta in the same meal, meats are tough and have no gravy/sauce, instead of broccoli florets they serve the stems, and spices or herbs are never used. We have three menus. A weekly menu handed out at the beginning of each week, a menu from which we choose our food at lunch and dinner time, and the unnamed menu consisting of whatever is available, which is often not what was listed in either of the other two menus. The waiters are excellent, friendly and helpful, and even they recognize the poor quality of the food. The food situation is very unfortunate, since the place could not have a better location. Two and a half blocks from Metro and Whole Foods, two blocks from the public library and CVS, also about the same distance from Target (which also has a CVS, so we have two within walking distance), The Container Store, and Ace Hardware; still very much a residential area with 100-year-old houses that have gorgeous gardens and huge, ancient trees. Several churches are within walking distance, as well as a few restaurants (Indian, Middle Eastern, Mexican). Residents are quite diverse and friendly. Some of them have been here for years and are always cordial and helpful. I wish they would do something about the food! My understanding is it used to be good, and when I first came it was still fairly so. I have no idea what happened.

I've toured several senior residences in the DMV with a view toward my golden years. Seabury has a classic (and classy :) ) design and modern amenities. The constant care of the building is visible in freshly painted corridors and apartments, clean and fluffy carpets and polished wood. The apartments are cozy and bright due to fresh fixtures and floor to ceiling windows and have great walk-in closets.Workers were on duty during my tour making the latest updates! The residents seem relaxed and content enjoying gardening, soaking up sun (there's a sunroof!), walking around the lovely residential neighborhood and gathering in groups for games or friendly chats. Scheduled of interesting activities are posted everywhere. I'd love to live there.

Where other agencies it was quite obvious that it was going to take time for them to evaluate if they wanted to help us. Georgetown Home Care was there the next day. We felt as if we were there only client. They found us a compatible aide and they were very caring as a company. Right up until the end. Which came as quick as the need for home care did. Overall very pleased with the responsiveness and the aides that were assigned to us.

The staff are attentive and caring and he still has more autonomy than he would in many other places. He did NOT want to go to a nursing home despite his increasing frailty . He requires assistance with all ADLs and medications. He is always well groomed, clean and in good spirits. All the staff address him by name and treat him with great respect and affection. His speech is difficult to understand because of strokes but they are uniformly patient and helpful. Three mornings a week we are together but I do stop in at other times and he is ALWAYS well cared for. Here is an opportunity for socialization that he didn't have at his independent facility in NJ. Meals are in the dining room; many different daily activities. He and I could not be happier with Grand Oaks And we feel that the VALUE is excellent. Many of the places we visited were quite large and somewhat confusing, with separate areas for assisted and independent living, which made my parents feel isolated and "less than." Then we discovered Brightview Great Falls. It was just the right size--large enough to offer engaging activities and social opportunities, yet small enough to feel intimate and cozy. Six months into their stay, we couldn't be more pleased with our choice. The care they receive is my top priority, and I am confident that any medical issues are promptly addressed. Secondly, the facility's cleanliness is impeccable, which is crucial to me; even the bathrooms, which can quickly become messy, are consistently spotless. My third major concern was the staff, and they have exceeded my expectations. They are communicative, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to their roles. I've even formed genuine friendships with several staff members who are truly caring individuals. Is everything perfect? No, no place is. But any issues that arise are taken seriously and handled swiftly. Knowing what I know now, I would choose Brightview Great Falls all over again. They took her credit card number which she thought was like a "hold" on a hotel room that could be cancelled. She thought she would have time to think about the decision. She tried to contact the person she spoke with there a couple of days later and was told that person was on vacation until the following week. She waited until the following week and got the run around and was never able to talk to that person again because she was always "busy." A call to the bank a couple of weeks later and we discovered that they had in fact charged her credit card $3,500 deposit the day she had visited Brightview. Several attempts to request that the charge be reversed have been denied by them. These people are very good at selling to the elderly and taking advantage of people who are hard of hearing and under stress. They make the desperate senior citizen feel like they are trying to help them, when, in fact, it is all an act to get their money. I hope this post keeps someone else from having the same experience.

Meals are not nutritious, too many carbs & too low protein, nor are they flavorful. My mother has lost weight in the three years she's been a resident because she won't eat what's served. During the COVID pandemic, Five Star has made money by not providing what residents are paying big bucks for. The socially distanced activities are poor. They should be ashamed offering hallway bingo, hallway mixers & a rolling library cart for months! And, these boring, unimaginative & unstimulating activities are provided on alternative floors. Residents go for weeks with nothing. They're also saving money by scaling back the menu & having residents preorder. Much less waste, no serving staff, etc. Attempts to improve conditions have fell on deaf ears. To add insult to injury, Five Star has declined an offer for FREE on-site COVID testing of residents provided by Montgomery County. No reason was given.

It is absolutely a fantastic place in every way: the staff (*terrific*, numerous, always available, extremely patient & accommodating), the food (really delicious & varied), the programs (*300* activities per month), the interior (gorgeous & soothing), the physical setting (lovely & wooded, yet very convenient) and the general overall ambiance. The rental cost is undeniably very pricey in order to pay for all of the aforementioned, but we're very relieved that my mother can manage to afford such a pleasant situation at this stage of life.

Maybe a hotel? Turns out, this event was hosted on the rooftop balcony party room of a...wait for it... senior living community. Huh??? This is not your average senior living community with the old carpet, weird smells, poor lighting and 1970s library furniture. No, no, no. This place is super upscale. Could easily be a new apartment building in some hipster neighborhood. Apparently they opened four months ago and they are in a marketing partnership with the Alexandria Chamber to help promote their facilities to seniors 62 and up. They have three restaurants, a game room, a movie theater, pools tables, wrap around panoramic city-view balcony, and a bunch of other stuff that would make anybody not be too upset to live here - regardless of age. The food was provided by the in-house chef, who made an appearance on season 2 of Pitmasters. He prepared some lobster rolls, quesadillas, and three signature drinks for all of us mixer guests. I went back several times for refills + more food, lol. They had a full bar too. Not that I plan to hang out here, but I wasn't mad at the networking, the views, or the food.
