There are musical performances and other cultural and healthful activities. It's difficult for anyone to adjust to a new environment, and even more so for an elderly person with dementia. The Kensington Park staff do their best to welcome and acclimate new residents - which, with the added problem of Covid, is a challenge. They are kind and attentive, dealing with irritability and other behaviors with grace and patience. The management is very open to communication from family members and every issue is addressed. Visits from family members are easily scheduled. It's a good place.

Subsequently, I spoke to my friends' daughter who told me "since her mother broke her arm, she was not participating in activities, and was too tired from too many visitors. The supervisor's recommendation was no visitors other than once a week from each daughter, as per my friend. My friend is 97 yeaars old. The elderly NEED verbal stimulation, not isolation. My friend, the elderly lady, does not like this place and has expressed it in no uncertain terms. My experience with ideas like this ends in the life of the elderly person in less than 8 weeks. My friend (the daughter) has placed her mother in a prison because caing for her mother is an inconvenience.

She was living in the family home in Takoma Park, MD and was no longer safe and competent to live alone. I told her that she "needed to retire". She accepted that but with great anxiety. I spoke to her primary physician and she recommended Malta House. I was impressed as soon as I walked into the building. It was a great surprise that the supervisor, Sister Jean, was a previous patient of mine. She was a person that I respected very much. The current supervisor, Elisabeth Orchard, has taken the previous high standards up several notches. Her leadership style includes teaching the staff to achieve the highest level of caring, respect and compassion for seniors and especially for the difficulties of life for those who are losing abilities that they previously had. She leads also by by knowing exactly how care is given at any time and thus closes the loop between her teaching and implementation of those ideals. My sister was comfortable almost immediately after admission. Malta House emphasizes community, caring, compassion, cleanliness, and peace of mind so that social life and activity can be maximized. It is safe, spacious, and the food is fabulous since the head of food services previously worked as a chef on cruise ships. Most of all, my sister has piece of mind for the rest of her life. The facilities are amazing that there is so much in a space that still is cozy and home like. They have a beauty salon, library, resident pantry, 2 sitting rooms, one with a fire place and the other with a large TV, a fitness program, a book club, arts, music, transportation and shared space for parties and family visits. All is on one level and is accessible. The studio apartments are also spacious, comfortable, with large window that looks out on gardens and a patio. There is 24/7 staff that live in the building and provide emergency care if needed. The residents wear a small comfortable alarm system so if they leave the premises inadvertently, an alarm goes to the staff. Doors are locked to get in but not to leave of course. There are religious services available. My sister and I were not raised Roman Catholic. We were Presbyterians. But, the feeling there is clearly acceptance and respect of our beliefs and people of any denomination can be very comfortable. Assisted Living is not cheap! The cost there is lower than many others and much is achieved for the money that is spent. It's a good deal! My sister is happy there and considers Malta House to be her home.

She loves taking walks in the historic section of Kensington, right behind the building, and walking to the Saturday farmer's market. Noise from the trains passing by so closely has not been a problem at all! In fact, she really likes watching them go by. She also really likes the fact that the town of Kensington has almost all the services she needs, so she doesn't have to go far. There are a few "growing pains" being so new, still hiring staff, but they are finding great people and constantly improving. This place really doesn't feel like a senior home, which is also appealing, and residents don't feel at all micro-managed or confined. Brand new. Although my mom is in independent living, she continues to hear great things from residents about their assisted living and memory care services as well. She likes the relatively small size of the facility. They have a driver to take people to local appointments, they show movies on Friday nights, offer several art classes, and more. The food is all made-to-order in the restaurant. Service is leisurely, but very pleasant. They have an in-house hairdresser, also fitness coach. It's all about the people, and that's really made it for my mom.

There was a mix up and I was led to believe I was going home when I was discharged from the Hospital, but medical transport pulled up to Sligo Creek. I was resistant at first and did not want to stay but soon decided to stay. The nurses that cared for me were so caring I soon came to miss them on their day off. Because of my condition I ended up staying 6 months. Do not judge the old bldg. to the staff or the facility's ability to care and treat you. Sligo Creek is at the top of my list if I ever need to enter a facility as a resident. This is how much I liked and appreciated the care I received.

When my step-mother, for whom I am guardian, needed a memory care facility he told me that as first responders are frequently called to nursing homes all over the county, he got a bird's eye view of what really happens, especially in times of stress at these facilities, which is obviously the circumstance when the paramedics are called. He said that Arden Court was one of the few places that he would recommend given everything that he'd seen over all those years. He said the staff was always in charge, clear, and calm no matter the circumstance that was being presented. So we obviously went with this informed - and candid - assessment. We were especially challenged as my step-mother had a very rare form of Alzheimer's which took away her eyesight before it took her memory. We kept her in her apartment, with assistance, for as long as we could until she was simply in need of too much daily 24-hour care. Unfortunately she was spiteful and difficult in every way. She was angry with me and everyone she encountered. From the moment that she arrived everyone on the staff, from the Executive Director all the way to her daily caretakers responded to her with love and patience. They helped me deal with her viciousness towards me and worked day in and day out to bring her onto an even keel. Everyone has been simply miraculous over the past 9 months that my stepmother has been at Arden Court. She now loves everyone on the staff, she is happy and all of the anger that she displayed towards me has evaporated. I visit regularly and she is always talkative and eager to engage me and everyone around her. To say that I am grateful for the staff at Arden Court would be an understatement. They took what was a truly dreadful situation with my step-mother and turned this time of her life into a positive and loving experience. It doesn't get any better than that.

She is excellent and helps my mom with showering and also dresses her. She will comb her hair, make her lunch, and do her laundry. She is so nice and caring and she loves what she does. She is very helpful and I'm so glad she's here for my mom. I B also like that when I call the office they respond back. If our main cc aide can't make it, they call me and find a sub. I have a good experience with Visiting Angels and I recommend them.

My mother in law had a wonderful caregiver through Visiting Angels for 5 years. She retired and…read morethen had several different caregivers. One we believe stole $600. We didn't have a camera to prove it but the money disappeared. The last few either didn't feed her or gave her canned spaghetti. She lost at least 60 lbs. We relied on these people for the last few years as our son went through chemo for cancer. My mil lived 45 min away and we couldn't see her very often. Visiting Angels didn't have a caregiver plan for her. No nurse came to check her. Leisure World had a nurse check on her and helped us get her moved to assisted living near us. It's the luck of the draw with them. But they are expensive for the little help you get. Please don't use them.
