Chantilly Heights Memory Care - My family, with mom, at one of the many family event parties Chantilly Heights puts on.

A Truly Supportive Memory Care Community…read more I noticed there's currently only one other review posted. I appreciate that perspective, and I wanted to add my own experience as a longtime family caregiver. I'm not an attorney or a healthcare professional - just someone who's spent the last decade immersed in elder care, including leading caregiver support groups. My mom has lived at Chantilly Heights for over two years, and I'm sharing based on that firsthand, ongoing experience. My mom has lived at Chantilly Heights Memory Care since December 2022, and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Fun fact: she earned the rare distinction of being the first (and to my knowledge, still only) resident to move herself in - meaning she was physically fit enough to do it with me and a U-Haul we rented together! I spent six months researching facilities before choosing Chantilly Heights, specifically looking for a community dedicated solely to memory care (rather than combined assisted living/memory care facilities). After experiences with two other facilities and reviewing many more, I became convinced that a specialized memory care environment would be best for my mom. Chantilly Heights (then known as Arbor Terrace Fairfax) has consistently proven that belief correct. When I first toured, Cre Jackson, the Facilities Director, was the first person to take me around. Cre set a welcoming tone from the start and has remained a trusted advisor ever since. Rachel Moore later guided us through onboarding and did a stellar job walking us through every step. While Rachel has since moved on (as another reviewer noted), my experience has been that from the front desk to the kitchen team to management and care staff, the people at Chantilly Heights genuinely care. It's clear for many that elder care isn't just a job - it's a calling - and the emotional intelligence they show daily is remarkable. That said, no place is perfect. There have been periodic staffing changes (common in this industry), and about six months after my mom moved in, Arbor Terrace divested, with Hamister Group taking over and rebranding the community as Chantilly Heights. That transition brought challenges, but through it all, the team - particularly Executive Director Brian Zurakowski -remained committed and supportive. As the only child of two parents facing late-stage degenerative disease, I can say this journey has been made far more manageable thanks to the team at Chantilly Heights. I believe strongly that contractual relationships should be rooted in fairness and satisfaction, and Brian's team has more than upheld their end over the last three years I've been involved with them. During my mom's time there, she transitioned from the higher-functioning to the lower-functioning neighborhood, giving me a full view of the community's care across different needs and stages. Based on this experience, I've confidently recommended Chantilly Heights to several friends - and two have since moved their own parents in. This is hard work, and not everyone is cut out for it - but the staff here perform beautifully at a very difficult and important job. I also appreciate Chris Mays for sharing his experience. Having supported another family member through a similar transition, I suspect his review reflects the challenges of the handoff from Arbor Terrace to Hamister. I've spent many hours with Brian and his staff and have always found them to be responsive - and importantly, proactive. They don't just react to issues; they work with me to stay ahead of them. In closing: If you're considering Chantilly Heights, don't base your decision solely on Yelp reviews (including mine!). Visit. Talk to the staff. Ask for family referrals - I know many caregivers like myself would be happy to share our experiences.

They were early in taking restrictive measure--even before CMS required them. They have been transparent and communicated with families frequently. It was inevitable, given their location in Northern Virginia, that there would be COVID cases--especially since many staff work at least 2 jobs including at other facilities. Tall Oaks gave direct care staff a raise and asked them to limit their work to this single facility. Tall Oaks seems to have managed the COVID cases well, working closely with the Fairfax County Health Dept. Yes--there have been some deaths (inevitable in this population), but cases have been limited to fewer than 10% of their population. My 99-year-old parents have been safe, with no cases among residents or staff reported on their floor. My parents have lived at Tall Oaks for over 7 years. There have been many staff changes and although I've never been concerned for their safety, management and care has been variable, with current staff returning quality to the level it was when they moved in. Yes--I've had some complaints and frustrations over the years, mostly related to staff not taking responsibility for issues or not following through on commitments, but these kinds of issues have mostly disappeared in recent years as staff has changed. If I had to find a residence for my parents again, I would definitely choose Tall Oaks Assisted Living.

Review of Brightview Great Falls Senior Living…read more When my parents needed a place to age gracefully after staying with us for over two years, we began our search for the perfect senior living facility. Many of the places we visited were quite large and somewhat confusing, with separate areas for assisted and independent living, which made my parents feel isolated and "less than." Then we discovered Brightview Great Falls. It was just the right size--large enough to offer engaging activities and social opportunities, yet small enough to feel intimate and cozy. Six months into their stay, we couldn't be more pleased with our choice. The care they receive is my top priority, and I am confident that any medical issues are promptly addressed. Secondly, the facility's cleanliness is impeccable, which is crucial to me; even the bathrooms, which can quickly become messy, are consistently spotless. My third major concern was the staff, and they have exceeded my expectations. They are communicative, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to their roles. I've even formed genuine friendships with several staff members who are truly caring individuals. Is everything perfect? No, no place is. But any issues that arise are taken seriously and handled swiftly. Knowing what I know now, I would choose Brightview Great Falls all over again. It's a community where I can rest easy knowing my parents are in good hands

They took her credit card number which she thought was like a "hold" on a hotel room that could be cancelled. She thought she would have time to think about the decision. She tried to contact the person she spoke with there a couple of days later and was told that person was on vacation until the following week. She waited until the following week and got the run around and was never able to talk to that person again because she was always "busy." A call to the bank a couple of weeks later and we discovered that they had in fact charged her credit card $3,500 deposit the day she had visited Brightview. Several attempts to request that the charge be reversed have been denied by them. These people are very good at selling to the elderly and taking advantage of people who are hard of hearing and under stress. They make the desperate senior citizen feel like they are trying to help them, when, in fact, it is all an act to get their money. I hope this post keeps someone else from having the same experience.

As someone that has TWO parents in Memory Care in the center all I have to say is...I can rest easily knowing they are being truly cared for. I've had my parents at another national community and it was a terrible experience. Paramount staff is caring from the front desk to the caregivers to nurses to the senior and executive team. My parents love the food, they get help with their showers, and the caregiving team truly looks them over to make sure everything physically is going well. (One caregiver found my moms leg swollen and it was discovered she had a blod clot.) Had it not been for her looking out and paying attention to the leg change this could have turned into a stroke. I'm positive this would not have been caught at the other place I had my parents. What I did not expect was Brightview's management team making me feel very pressured into moving my dad to memory care before I thought it was appropriate. I felt like they were argumentative and abrasive in their meeting with me, and their reasons for wanting to move him were alarming and scary. I wish I had known at the time that as a family member you have the right to see the staff's written reports about your loved one, you don't have to take management's word for it. In my case, I installed a video camera in my dad's room which proved to me that their assessments of him were not accurate. They added unnecessary additional stress and worry to what is already an incredibly hard thing to go through, and they made me fearful because I could no longer trust them. I removed my dad from Brightview's care as quickly as I could and he is now living in a new community.
