I was having trouble mounting a TV on the wall. The included screws in the bracket box did not work out at all. So I headed for a *real* hardware store, NOT a big box home improvement store. Why? Because you get one on one help even when its with the littlest of things such as the needing the right screws. This is important to me especially when I'm in a hurry. Chevy Chase came through for me. There is plenty of off street parking in the back plus a back door for customers. The inside of the store seems huge but its hard to tell since the aisles are narrow and it looks like its two buildings put together inside. The rows of aisles is endless it seems. I got there just before closing and did not have time to browse the whole store. Staff was super friendly and extra helpful. I highly recommend this store for your home maintenance needs. read more

It is pretty retro to go to any physical store for one's home needs in this day and age, let alone one that isn't owned by a national chain. I'm all for it though, and this place has a prominent location near the university, and was much bigger inside than it looked from the outside. It took me two tries to get a handle on my home plumbing issues, but not due to anything wrong on their end, and I had plenty of help in the store when I needed it. I also picked up a few unrelated minor items, and was pretty impressed at the breadth of items they had. I fix humans, not houses, but on the occasion that I need some supplies for the sort of minor job that an amateur like me can handle, I can definitely see returning here. read more

I've lived in Lexington all my life and never set foot into this place until today. I needed something that was unavailable at the big box stores so I gave them a call to see if they had it. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and helpful. I stopped in on my way home from work and was amazed at the selection of products they had in this little store. I had a couple of questions and the young man at the register wasn't sure how to answer so he called a lady to the front that listened and answered my questions with ease. Everyone in the store was extremely helpful. My experience there was awesome. The products were fairly priced and I probably spent less than I would have with the big guys. I most certainly wouldn't have gotten that kind of customer service from the big guys. I'm glad I know about this place now. They can gladly have my business anytime! read more

Wow! They are awesome! After another local company took my money ( way over charged me) and jacked me around for 4 months, I got fed up and fired them- still waiting on my refund. I'm new to the neighborhood so I have only been here a couple of times. Nevertheless I have had two great experiences there and will be back! The staff is super friendly and attentive. One of them practically chased me down the aisle to see if I needed any help (I have a quick stride : ) He took the part I needed right out of the packaging and tested it for me so I new I was getting exactly what I needed. I had to find some screws for mounting an accessory on a firearm. I called them and made sure they had something suitable. They guaranteed me that they did, so off I went. When I arrived they were super friendly and helpful. I'm not sure of his name but a guy in his mid twenties with long hair helped me to find the exact screw I needed and made sure I knew the thread and pitch in case I ever needed more. Overall a great experience and I'll make sure to come back in the future. I've lived in Lexington for over 20 years and didn't know about this place. Had to find replacement bolts for daughter's bed. I had seen a segment on local news featuring this hardware store, concerning how local businesses were surviving during the COVID-19 pandemic, and decided I would check them out sometime. This seemed like the perfect time so we loaded up the footboard and side rail and off to the store we go. We explained our dilemma to the gentleman there and after about 30 minutes of trying out different size bolts he sent us on our merry way with everything we needed! He put the bolts in a cute little paper bag!!! Yay! It took me back to my childhood going into the hardware store with my dad to get "a pound of nails, bolts, pipe", or whatever else he would need. It was great to get personalized one on one help! The store is small and well stocked and has a small neighborhood feel to it! Will definitely go back! read more

The only reason this hardware store doesn't get 5 stars is because parking is lousy. Other than that, this is the best hardware depot in town. It's small but seems to have everything I've needed in the last 3 years. The customer service is unbeatable: friendly and knowledgeable. And it's right across the street from the best bakery in town. True enough: it smells GOOD...like childhood with grandpa. CCH might just be the best little hardware store in town, the region, the country, the world. The employees must have to take a niceness test before they can work there. Always willing to help. Reasonably priced, though not as cheap as the mega-stores. I believe in patronizing local, smaller stores. Guess free enterprise works best when you see the local people benefitting from it. Needed two odd-shaped lightbulbs for some strange-ass lamps. Came here, lamps in hand, and the guy was EXTREMELY helpful. Put the bulbs in for me. Service like that is rare these days. I'm pleased Chevy Chase Hardware exists, and I will be back. Don't go to Home Depot and contend with the crowd, come here! Update: 5 May Today I came in for paint. Again, a positive experience. 4 cans of decent quality paint, two rollers, and two keys. $130. A great hardware store in a great neighbourhood. I'll go to CCH before going to Lowe's or Home Depot. The staff is friendly and helpful, although the selection was much better when it used to be a True Value Hardware Store. I've shopped here for several items, only to be told they don't stock it anymore. This is the only independent hardware store left in Lexington, so I hope they'll be around for a long, long time. Parking is best behind the dry cleaners to the left of the store. You don't have to back out into the very busy High St when leaving the store. read more

A decent store, and I do stop in from time to time even though it's not particularly convenient to me. The staff certainly are more knowledgeable than those at big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. They have also never seemed to view me, a woman in a hardware store, as a strange creature out of myth or someone who needs patronizing or hand-holding. The stock is good, but more than once I've gone in for a standard steel washer or something only to find that... they don't carry it! These are things I used to be able to get at Ace, before they pulled out of Lexington, at $2.79 for a box of 100. Getting something sorta kinda similar at CCH, I could only shop by the piece and ended up spending about the same amount for 10 pieces. I realize prices are going to be higher at a local store and that's a fair trade in my book, but this was excessive. I don't consider the parking to be much of an issue. It's a neighborhood store, you can find street parking nearby on most days or just park across the street and wander around Rite-Aid for a little while. Overall, 3/5. Increase in bulk and basic stock would raise it to 4/5, another location across town to 5/5. read more

This hardware is out of the way for me but I still go there. The reason is simple, you won't find better prices nor better service. I highly recommend Chevy Chase Hardware! Some people complain about parking and don't seem to know that if you turn in the alley by the store and follow the circle you will find several parking spaces that belong to the store. I've found that one or more are always available. Makes it much easier to get in and out. read more

I've just returned from my third trip in three days to Home Depot and for the third time I walked out empty-handed. I always go there because it's close, but it doesn't save any time if they don't have what you're looking for. Chevy Chase always does. It's like a store out of a fable, where you open the door to a closet and the world opens up before you. I'll never figure out how they manage to stock everything I need in such a small space and Home Depot and Lowe's can't in their acres of shelving.
