I told him to plz pump midgrade, and he proceeded to put in regular both times- The first time, he made the argument that midgrade only is regular and plus mixed- hence, he saw no need to heed my instructions that midgrade is what is good for my Toyota Forerunners engine. The second time he did this and chose not to listen to my fuel grade specification, we got into it, and the cops were called to dispute whether or not he took money from me over his stupid mistake. The cop went to the station and spoke with him, and it was clarified that due to his mistake of again not heeding my fuel grade specification- and switching over to plus partway through the transaction- the meter read 16.64 and did not reflect the 20 Dollar bill I had given him. Because I got upset over the situation, I am now apparently forbidden by him to return to that particular business. I will not rest until the manager knows about his rude and disrespectful behavior toward me, which he seems to only direct specifically at me, although this is hard to say for certain. I'm an Arcata local and have children, and I will personally make sure the manager - Roger or Earl or whoever manages that place knows what an asshole he is to certain customers. I see now in a few of the other reviews that it is actually common for them to treat paying customers like garbage.

I've used a few different pumps at Patriot and at each one I've used, the gas pump nozzle shuts off after about 3 seconds regardless of whether or not the tank is full. I had to restart the nozzle about 15 times, and I gave up after I was able to obtain a mere 2 gallons of gas. I would be more understanding if this was an issue with one pump, but the fact that this happens at more than one pump is concerning and annoying. To boot, the machines I've visited are not stocked with paper and do not give receipts. This is some of the cheapest gas in town, so if you can contend with these inconveniences, go for it. It's honestly a little sketchy at night, since the perimeters are a little dark and I've seen people cross over from the field by the 101. You never really know who's out there until they are basically next to you. I'll only pump gas here if I absolutely need to. At least the employees have always been friendly to me. I wish I could report better news but this is the reality of this place. The location is great in terms of general convenience, I just wish the owners would take the time to fix the pumps and make sure they are prepared to print out receipts for customers. Maybe then I could pump my gas and leave without spending 10 minutes here and leaving with less than 1/4 of a tank.

Their credit card price is about what you would pay anywhere in nearby Arcata or Eureka (which is expensive compared to the rest of the state due to the isolation of Humboldt County (the "Lost Coast")), but with the cash discount it makes it the place to purchase fuel in the Arcata Area (my son, who lives 4 miles away in Arcata, says it is worth the drive to fill his near empty fuel tank here). Since this is the gas station for the nearby casino, you will find slot machines inside the gas station.
