He didn't charge me for his time, but did give me a quote to install a professional system as well as expand coverage to the entire back yard. His quote was reasonable / competitive, and I was lucky to get quickly scheduled. He and his crew came out and in a couple days were able to install a brand new Hunter system with sprayers and multiple drip lines. Despite having to trench through my yard, when they were done it looked as good as new. They took special care around existing landscaping and did not damage anything during the installation process. It's been a few months now, and the system is working great. Grass is green and plants are blooming. Sherman is easy to work with and super responsive. He's great with communication, and his estimate was right on point. I had some drainage work done at my house which trashed my entire irrigation system, so I needed to have it replaced, both in the front and back yard. The McKay crew did a bang up job of it. They came in on time and on budget. They had the whole system laid out and running within about two days. Then Sherman spent some time with me to make sure I knew how to operate the controllers. In fact, they do more than irrigation, and I will likely have them come back and put in some new plants and do some other work in my backyard. I called for a non-urgent repair, but since they happened to have…read morea few folks working in the area, they were able to fit me in same day (one of the benefits of WFH is always being available!). They wore masks, were friendly, knowledgeable, incredibly efficient, professional, and fixed my problem, along with 2 additional small leaks I did not know I had, for far less $ than I thought, in far less time than I thought. Once the problem was diagnosed, they gave me an accurate estimate on the spot. They were even able to reprogram my dinosaur of a sprinkler timer that I could not figure out, and suggested ways to improve my water conservation and reduce my water bill. 10/10 would recommend. The woman who helped me with scheduling, Gail, was also very friendly, professional, helpful, and took the time to listen to my ridiculous story below. Backstory: My sprinkler timer stopped working at some point. The timer is so old, it does not have an available user manual online (!). We had been turning it on and off manually, and ran it at night after folks were inside b/c that was the old programmed time. The first time I said "don't worry about it - I'll go turn the sprinkler off", I broke off what I thought was a valve (it wasn't). Holy moly did I unleash a flood of water. I turned off the water for the house, but the sprinkler stayed on, and water was shooting out of a little hole directly into my face/ eyeballs with some serious force. My partner and I went back and forth, but we absolutely could not get this little piece back into place. It was super dark and my little flashlight was not helpful! I tried to turn off the water main at the sidewalk but couldn't get it to budge without a t-bar. I tried calling emergency plumbers and had resigned myself to spending a fortune for this &*^% mistake (most did not answer their phone, or call back). After what felt like hours, but was probably ~45 minutes, I was able to screw this little cross-threaded piece back in enough to be able to it turn it the rest of the way with a pair of channel locks. My partner and I were COMPLETELY DRENCHED from head to toe but could finally see that there was a water shutoff valve just for that one sprinkler of underneath something else in this weird little box that housed the pipes for the sprinkler (why TF would someone do that). I am a city person new to the suburbs, and a complete rube. When asked how often I wanted to water, I didn't have an answer because I haven't ever had a real garden or a sprinkler system. It was glaringly obvious that I had no idea WTF I was doing, and the repair professionals from AJS could have very easily taken advantage of this. I am such a cynic - I fully expected one of them to tell me I needed more than I did, because I would not have known the difference, but they 100% did not do that. They replaced the part I needed and that part only, helpfully tightened a few things that had a small leak, and talked me through the timer stuff, including switching to watering in the early morning.

A previous contractor had broken some of the PVC pipes that came out of my sprinkler system and they "fixed" them. Unfortunately they did not fix them correctly. I only found out after I made some changes to my irrigation system. I needed AJS to revise the PVC pipes coming out of two valves in my system so that one pipe went to my backyard and two pipes went to two areas in my front yard. Because there are a lot of pipes in a small area I wanted someone else to do it. So I called AJS. It was easy to make an appt. The 3-person crew showed up within the 2 hour window. I appreciated the foreman's concern about making sure it was clear exactly what needed to be done before they started the work. After two hours they completed the work and I am very happy with the results. They were clearly more concerned about getting the job done right rather than getting it done quickly. My only complaint is about the cost: $515 for two hours of work and parts (a few PVC parts). They have a set schedule for work, and treated this as two broken pipes, plus an hourly labor cost and parts. In the end it seemed significantly higher than I expected. I would consider using them again, but would like to get a better idea of the cost before starting the work. FYI, they charge a minimum of $115 for a service call, which is reasonable.

Sustainable L&G came for an initial consultation - to scope out the property and to hear what we wanted to do. Logan approximated it would take 1-2 days to tackle the mess of a yard. Two weeks later, Logan and team came to our house and immediately start hacking away at the jungle that was our yard. The team was extremely respectful of our house and the residents. The staff knocked on our door at the end of the day to have us inspect their work to see if we approved/needed anything else. They accommodated all the other wishes my mom had (random tree hacking/bush removal/etc). The process took one whole day and by the end, our property was completely transformed. They left all the trimmings in one part of our drive way to collect the next morning. My one complaint is that they were later than initially stated. However, once I contacted the other owner (Chen) - Logan immediately called me back and set up another time for pick up. Luckily, my day was pretty open and this did not interfere with my day. Logan was very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I know that my mom and I will definitely use Sustainable L&G again in the future.

Our problem: We have an irrigation system with 9 valves mapping to 9 different zones on the…read moremicrocontroller. Zones 1-4 stopped working suddenly. Also our Zone 9 was disconnected and we had a separate "workaround wire" for Zone 9 which we never liked because it was a visible extraneous wire glommed on as a hack/workaround. Quote: Ramon came to our place and gave us an honest quote. No blanket solutions like "replace all the wiring", "replace all valves", "replace the controller", etc. Ramon has a device that can trace the electrical wires (from the controller to the valve) and locate the disconnect. No digging up of wires involved. Solution: Ramon showed up punctually for the appointment and found the disconnect. The previous crew had spliced bunch of wires which was susceptible to disconnection. Ramon put in the proper connectors and gave us a 5-year warranty on his work. Now all the zones are working nicely and no superfluous/extraneous wires. Ramon also replaced some sprinkler heads and drip outlets that seemed broken. Solid work and great value. Master Tech Irrigation is likely the most honest and capable crew in the Bay Area at this point.
