An absolute pleasure. It felt like going with a friend and not a tour guide. Cheryl was knowledgeable and shared facts in a fun way. When we had to rearrange our route due to road closure, there were plenty of alternatives to chose from. The views were out of this world. Don't hesitate to book, or email Cheryl if you want adjustments to a specific tour. Will book again when we come back.

As more of my friends have crossed this age milestone, I've seen the full spectrum of responses: people who downplay it and later wish they'd done something special, people who throw huge parties and regret the stress and effort, and people who choose extreme adventures only to find the adrenaline crash leaves them feeling depleted afterward, bringing '50' home in a hard way. This struck exactly the right balance. It was special enough to feel like a true celebration, offered a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and created memories (and amazing photos) I'll carry with me for years. While it's certainly not inexpensive, once you see the amount of equipment, preparation, effort, infrastructure, expertise, and care that goes into each flight, the pricing feels more than reasonable. It's a significant experience without being financially out of reach. If you're looking for a memorable way to celebrate a milestone event--or simply want an extraordinary experience--I highly recommend it.

We didn't know anything about going on safari, and Phil build a custom trip that catered to exactly our personal travel style of going to some of the more off-the-beaten-path places with fewer tourists, but still lots of amazing experiences (we watched a family of elephants chase off a pair of male lions!). Everyone we met was on their 4th or 10th safari and when they found out we'd never been before, they'd always ask, "So how did you even find this place?" Also I had no idea you could have a vacation with this much adventure and yet zero stress. Having Phil take care of everything and getting it all arranged for and paid in advance took a HUGE load off of us, which was so great as we both have jobs where we typically do a lot of planning and project management. By taking care of that, Phil let us go on an exciting vacation where we actually got to RELAX. We took literally THOUSANDS of amazing photos, but here are just a couple fun ones I shot with my phone.

From the very first day of working with him to plan and organize our trip of a lifetime, we felt we were in great hands. Phil's fantastic first-hand knowledge of the camps allowed him to create a trip that far surpassed the typical group package deals. Phil meticulously plans every detail of the trip, from the best places to stay to recover from jet lag before the safari, to every transfer. You are never left wondering where to go or if someone will be there to meet you. The camps he chooses are small and personal, where you are taken care of and treated like family. The safari experience is second to none, with personal drivers and guides who are excellent, highly skilled, and knowledgeable. If you want a safari experience to remember, I can't recommend Phil and On Safari-In enough!

Booked ahead of time and made my way here at the time I chose. Once here, scan your QR code, get in line and wait until the boat is ready to be boarded. Don't do like other people, walking up to the loading area in the wrong direction expecting to be let on the boat because you are entitled. Once onboard, you will get the safety messages. There are a lot of places to go on the boat. Most will automatically go to the third level, the top deck with all the chairs. Where one might think that you would get the best views. I did this, that is until I felt boxed in and realized I could walk around at free will. Instead I found a place at the stern that gave me better views. I also would transfer to the bow every so often depending on where we were on the tour. This would be the second level, where you could purchase food, drink and souvenirs. The best part of this cruise/tour, I learned more about the history of city than I did on just wandering around. Learned about the history of the city on where things were, why they are there, and deep dives into buildings and companies of the city. The tour starts at Pier 55, and heads north. Going past other piers, waterfront landmarks, and neighborhoods. Seeing corporate campuses, industrial piers, islands, bases, cargo ships, and much more. An hour cruise sure did pack in the history for the city. Plus the captain was entertaining and knowledgeable. Be sure to pay attention during the tour, you'll get the inside scoop on the city and what to seek out when you are exploring.

I took the suggestion of a local and booked myself a tour. Completely booked online which is the…read moreeasiest part. The tour takes place in the Pioneer Square section and starts from a building that seriously looks underutilized. I'm sure it would make for a good restaurant or bar or speakeasy, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards for them at this point. When you come in to check in for your tour, you are shuffled into what was the bar and wait. When time comes you all head downstairs for a presentation. You are introduced to your tour guide. Keyon, I hope I spelt that right, was our tour guide. He was energetic and intriguing. Funny as all can be with a tinge of hatred for nearby Tacoma. He knew every little bit of information about the Underground Tour. It was an educational experience. I had no idea about the history of the young city. After going through the dirty history you understand why they raised up Seattle. And why when you are underground you are technically on the first or ground level. Understanding why they did this was a big portion of the tour. On a tidal basin and fighting sewage, you needed to raise up. While doing this, they had to raise the streets first and then build the sidewalks. You find out there were no deaths during the great fire, but during the raising up, you find out there were a few deaths as men that got drunk would fall off the ladders used to cross the street at the time. Then there are the purple pieces of sidewalk glass. This glass has manganese in it, which after making contact with sunlight, and some time, turned it a purple hue. The glass was used to bring sunlight to the underground. Most of the buildings that had their second floor become the first had an underground portion that ended up becoming mostly storage. This included what was once the sidewalks. You can also see a lot of where the first floor has settled being built on the tidal basin and all. You go up and down a few blocks, literally. Hearing more and more about the history of it all. Told a spooky story or two. See the tour guide play a trick or two. The best was the part where he turned off all the lights at one point to give it a bit more spook. Do it if you have the chance. It is another way to learn about a city and one few way to see a part of it legally.
