This should complete my reviews of the Keizer area sushi places worth visiting. Cherry's Nagani has the BIGGEST rolls I have seen at just about any sushi place I have been too--Oregon or otherwise. Simply enormous. And they use local ingredients, all the healthiest versions of everything...really well done from a health-conscious perspective. They have great looking soups too (Curry, Chicken Noodle) but it was a hot day so we didn't try them, though we look forward to doing so this winter. The only real issue that I have with the place is Cherry. While she is incredibly nice and she is so excited about every aspect of her restaurant, she really goes overboard with the talking. She notified us of every special thing they do (local ingredients, no GMO/pesticides, organic, etc.), gave us a history of the restaurant and her family, discussed competition in the area, and went through the entire menu explaining everything on it in detail. While all of the information was great to know and very helpful, she stood at the end of our table and talked the entire time we ate. The ENTIRE time. It was not an enjoyable experience. This is the second of the three sushi places I have reviewed where I will only order take-out due to the problems with the sit-down environment. read more

Their sushi is great! Healthy, filling, fresh and delicious, just the way I like it. Feels and tastes like you are getting a home cooked meal. California has nothing on this sushi!! ^_^ And yes Cherry talks to her customers. If you are anti-social (even more so than me!) and you want someone who just takes orders and basically ignores you, go to sushi kyo. It is not the best, but you won't be "bothered" (heck, I've had issues just getting a refill). Now, you want someone who is friendly and remembers you, go see Cherry. Now, I have to counter one specific review... in the years I've been going there I've never been hit by a wall of fragrance going in. I'm willing to bet there was something out of their control before the reviewer walked in, like a customer wearing too much perfume. I just went there today and can't remember any strong smells. Also, my mom didn't have any issues when I took her there and she is allergic to a lot of fragrances. So don't take this off your list of places to eat just because a reviewer went there once, for a few seconds, and decided they knew enough to leave a review. read more

Nagani Sushi is my next door neighbor. I send ALL of my customers to them. They opened about the same time I did. I love ALL of their home made soups. They have the freshest sea food around. My clients have become repeat clients of theirs. It's very small and the service is great. Cherry is so friendly and has been doing this for around 30+ years. I have clients who tell me it's the best sushi they have EVER had. My favorite: fish soup with fish, shrimp, rice noodles, spinach and green onions. Fills me up for the whole day. Also the shrimp salad rolls, the keizer rolls and the california rolls are all really good. Oh, and the EGG FLOWER soup, is the best I've EVER had. And just $3. She makes her own broth. Absolutely love the freshness of the food and excellent atmosphere at Cherry's Nagani in Keizer! Food isn't frozen, but extremely fresh and ingredients are of the highest standard (and I'm no stranger to sushi restaurants). Love Cherry and "Uncle Jack" and feel that I'm going there for a kind-of warm, inviting, family type experience, as they make me feel as if I am part of the family. She showed me a 100 rating from the health inspector, and says she has had that same rating for many years, and you can tell! The time and attention they spend to make their customers happy, translates directly into great, fresh and healthy Japanese food (not just sushi -- try the soups:) and an experience that has me coming back... Went to Nagani with a group of friends this weekend at one of my friend's recommendation. It exceeded my expectations, and gave me the excitement you rarely encounter anymore when going out to eat. Cherry was the absolute sweetest person I've encountered in a while, she clearly cares about her customers, and her quality of service. The food was wonderful. I had the opportunity to try the california rolls, Shoyu chicken, and curry soup. Everything I tried was delicious. Freshest Sushi in Salem. Cherry makes you feel as if she is serving you right from her kitchen at home. She was in the restaurant business for 25+ years in Honolulu, so her food is a Pacific/Asian Fusion. I find it delightful that even though she is originally from China, she can make anything after living in Hawaii, and is especially good @ Japanese food. Her place is small, and very clean. However, once we ate at Cherry's, we had found what we had been missing; authentic homemade cuisine that is made with love. Cherry cares that you love her food and your experience. Probably the best sushi I've ever had. I live in California and come up here for work on occasion. I cannot come and go without eating Miso soul and spicy tuna from here.
