Fast, attentive service, extremely well stocked conveyor belt, very fresh ingredients, and consistent (if not stand out) quality complement Kyo's fair value prices beautifully. The food was decent but the waitress dumped an entire glass of ice water down my husbands back. He was nice about it, even while she brought the rest of our waters BEFORE helping him clean up her mess. After he finally had a few dry towels we had to ask her several times for sauces, which for our party of 4 she brought one small tray. She was too busy after that chatting up the guy working there to refill our drinks or get us anything else, I had to interrupt her conversation with her coworker to ask for our check. Her coworker grabbed our check and rang us up, all while she is making jokes about how she was glad she dumped water on someone thay was nice about it. She didnt offer a discount and made my husband feel guilty about not leaving a tip. I understand that accidents happen and it was probably embarrassing, but if she was too embarrassed to come to our table she should have asked her coworker to take over. read more

It's more of the subway of sushi. If you're looking for affordable sushi to feed a group this is ideal. I came in from out of town tonight with my father and needed something quick, I'd seen the pictures online and it looked good. I did come in 45 minutes before they closed, but I specifically asked if I could eat in, was told I could. Went to sit at the sushi bar, which was empty, but the entire bar was littered with trash and not one of the staff made the slightest attempt to clean up any of it, so I sat at a booth that was relatively clean. There were a few other tables occupied and the staff took a bit to get to the table. I placed the order and the food was out pretty quick. The blackened ahi tuna was a bit fishy and obviously not super fresh, the nigiri salmon also not super fresh, it was not old, but I would not have called it sashimi grade. Edamame was previously frozen, I know this because one of the pieces I bit into was actually frozen. The Oregon salmon roll was great and I would def recommend it. For the price, the sushi was fine & my review would have been higher, the service however is why this is 2 stars. As I was still eating my rolls our young female server was quite obviously ready to go home (this was 20 minutes before close) as she actually tried to take away a plate that still had food on it and I was in the process of chewing. She apologized and walked away. She got me the check at this point, which was fine since I wasn't going to order anymore & I knew they were closing up. It was still 15 minutes before they were supposed to be closed and both my dad and I still had to finish our sake, she made sure to put all the chairs on the table and came over again 2 minutes later to have me give her the soy sauce to refill, an obvious attempt to get us out of there as quickly as possible, I know this because of all the empty tables that had 1/2 filled bottles still on them. It's now 8:50 and she is hovering waiting for us to finish up our drinks. I finally gave up and left the unfinished drinks by 8:52. The open sign was still on in the restaurant. Had I been at the restaurant after they closed I would totally understand the pressure to leave. Had I not specifically asked before I sat down and ordered my food if it was ok that I do so, I would understand this poor service as well. I would have left a 1 star review, however our bill was $50, which i can't say I have ever spent on sushi for 2. The food matched the value, it wasn't amazing, but it was better than the grocery store and you get more for the price, that is why I couldn't go below 2 stars. But the restaurant floor and tables were covered in trash, I was forced to leave before they closed and before I'd finished my drink. Even when I've eaten at a fast food burger chain as they are getting ready to close I have never had been made to feel so pressured to get out and those meals are $12! I was moving as quickly as I could and had already paid decent money for food AND service. Had she come to my table as soon as we sat down the 10 minutes we were ignored would have allowed us to leave by 8:40 so she could get onto whatever was more important than the customers who pay for their meals. In short If you want cheap sushi that isn't bad this place may work, but don't expect to be given any better service than you would at subway. In fact, subway provides better service. And I would not recommend coming to this place after 8 pm or you won't be given the time to actually finish your meal before being hounded to leave. read more

We had a few kinds of sushi to see if there were better options but sadly the topping seemed not fresh and also the the fish didn't appear too fresh. I do not like dishing out negative reviews, but I've eaten here several times and this time finally did me in. Even if things are made fresh, they don't taste fresh. There's some odd or bland taste in multiple rolls I've tried and nigiri. This time the takeout bag had a super gross fish smell with it too. I've had takeout sushi from places before without any gross smells. The rice was super chewy with weird flavors. This time we ordered eel rolls, eel nigiri, salmon nigiri, spicy tuna roll, some rolls with tempura fish inside. The absolute worst was the spicy tuna and I love that stuff usually. I wanted to give it a solid chance again but I was met with severe disappointment and I'm sick to my stomach. Honestly never going to eat here again unless someone makes me. read more

**Update** We gave this place another try. We could only place a to-go order during the pandemic which was fine, at least the food would be fresher. We ordered: Salmon nigiri- the best thing we had there. It was soft and buttery, wasn't fishy or tasted like it was defrosted. Shrimp tempura - the batter was light and crispy. Eel roll- had too much avocado, it was overwhelming and overpowered the eel. Eel nigiri- average Smoked salmon nigiri- was quite disappointing. The pieces were thin and barely had the smoked flavor. Overall: I like and appreciate that they dont over pack their sushi/nigiri with rice but overall it was average. I would personally only stick with the fresh salmons and tempura. read more

The wait time was only 10 minutes after ordering at the door as dining room closed due to pandemic, take out and delivery only. We ordered the Bagel Roll, shrimp tempura roll, Salem roll, California roll, dragon roll, Oregon roll, spider roll and the Tobikko crab salad, all really good! Service was very poor. Waiter didn't check on us once, we had to catch him as he power walked by us, my water was almost empty at this point, to even order something not off the conveyor. While our rolls were being made he was in the corner on his phone. A couple tables left and had to stand and wait for the waiter to notice they wanted to pay. I found like an entire shell of a shrimp in my roll that we still paid for because we were never checked on and just wanted to leave. We love this place. It is our favorite casual sushi. It's nothing fancy- a standard conveyor belt sushi joint, but it's good at what it is. Make sure to order a Salem roll- it is seriously amazing. I also the California roll and my husband's favorite is the Spicy Salmon roll. They are always running coupons on their Facebook page which is very nice. However after covid, things got a little messy, I understand that they might be short staffed, and today I went there to order, they made me wait 1 hour for my order and it still wasn't ready. I typically never eat sushi from the conveyor belt of any place that has one, but I mistakenly tried it here. It was just warm & bland. The fresh roll I ordered (spicy crunch roll) was barely decent. When I asked to order another roll (Lchi Shrimp Roll), the guy making rolls pointed at the conveyor belt. The waitress spoke to me from across the preparation area (rather than walk a short distance to speak with me) & I told them both I would like the larger roll, & pointed to the menu. Also clarified that i would like a *fresh* roll. He handed me two of the plates that were prepared for the conveyor, but hadn't been put on it yet....(Two small plates would make up the larger/regular roll). So yeah, NOT fresh. They had SO many small plates for the conveyor of prepared rolls, nigiri, & sashimi that were sitting there at room temperature for who knows how long. Nothing seemed the slightest bit refrigerated. The sweet sauce is disgusting. I had to wipe as much off as i could to even eat it at all. And the roll was 40% cream cheese. The waitress was nice, but I was quite confused when she gave me the bill & had only marked the quantity of each plate color I had. They're pricing is based on the color of the plate (mainly from the conveyor), but they also use this system for the regular roles. Fine by me, but why am I left to do the math? Of course i can, but that was just such a weird thing to have a customer be taking care of at a restaurant. Like if you went to a restaurant with regular pricing & the server handed you a receipt with the prices of each item you had, but left it up to you to total it up for them. Wtf?! And when i got the first roll she most definitely said it was on "special", so that made it extra confusing as to what pricing i was using to total up my own receipt...and when i asked to make sure, she points at the plate color on the wall, like, "Duh, it's that color". Oh, and when I was ready to pay I looked up at the server, smiled & nodded, as you might do at any restaurant when you're letting a server know you're ready to give them money, etc. and she & the other server both look at be blankly for a moment & then motion for me to come up to the register, rather than just walking a short distance to pick up the money from me, as most servers would do... Bear in mind there were only TWO other people dining there while i was, and they were at the same table. So with FIVE people working there, two of them being servers, it was really awkward that they didn't just come to take the money. Sure, some places have you pay at a register, but those are usually the kinds of places where you order & pay at the counter from the beginning. This is a sit down restaurant... Ok, super long review. And i hate to be so negative, but that was THE WORST service & food i've had in years..... For example, tuna puff and crab puff are on the menu- good for those who aren't willing to venture into the more daring rolls. The Salem roll was our favorite and a good price at $1.35 per plate. I love Volcano Rolls. I would be content to just have a few of these delicious, spicy, plates. A close second is the Salem roll... oh so good. However, I am usually with friends who like to experiment a bit. I can say I've tried almost every offering at Kyo now. I've loved some, and almost vomited on some. Nothing ventured, nothing gained though. Trying new things is a passion of mine. There is almost nothing I wont try. I like the variety and prices here. SERVICE REVIEW: This review is purely a review of the service received. Here's the skinny..... They're open until 10, so showing up at 9:15 is definitely not a "last minute" drop in. I'd hoped to grab a few plates and order a Salem roll (A guilty pleasure. Don't judge..... too harshly.) Promptly greeted and seated, though I was steered away from sitting next to all (and I do mean ALL) of the "sushi talent" that were obviously on dinner break. Alrighty, I guess I'll sit where I didn't really want to sit then, since you insist. I get it. Let's move on then, shall we? "May I have a Salem roll please, and some tea?" The young waitress calls out the order to the folks on break. I sit and begin to partake of a couple of plates and some hot tea. And wait. And watch. And wait. And watch. Ok, maybe another plate while waiting. And watching. Watching the only person to get up from their break make the previously mentioned Salem roll. And I watch it in anticipation as it's sliced, sauced, boxed, and.... wait, BOXED?!? I'm eating here! I watch as a to-go order is filled (with what was perceived to be my tasty Salem roll), and then said "sushi talent" proceeds to do dishes. ***SIGH*** While my waitress did get my tea refilled, she completely dropped the ball on a really simple order. I just didn't have enough energy to make a big deal about it. Take a break w/ your co-workers my dear, I'll just make sure not to eat here when you're working. On the plus side? My Partner and my Daughter went out to dink around Salem yesterday and see a movie. Lunch was on the agenda and my partner is a sushi fanatic, so we found ourselves at Sushi Kyo. Shushi Kyo is a Sushi-Track style restaurant and you pay by the plate. Prices range from $1.25 to $2.35 per plate. My partner and daughter loved the selection and informed me that the quality was fine. I am not a fan of sushi, nor any seafood, so I opted for an order of Teriyaki chicken and rice. They didn't have any steamed rice available, and the portion of the teriyaki chicken was tiny. To give you an idea of the amount of chicken that was on my plate....take two McNuggets, quarter them and you have my serving. So...if you like Sushi, this is the place to go. I have one major concern about this place. Each plate that goes by is covered by a disposable plastic lid. The staff here collect these at the end of your meal and reuse them. At the end you have to ask for the bill to be totaled because it goes based upon plate colors, and how many you stacked up. Ironically when you check out there is a spot for a tip?
