Cherry Blossum doulas supported me during both of my births in 2020 and 2023. I felt seen, loved and cared for during every moment of my experience with Alyssa. She knew just where to touch, and exactly what to say during contractions, especially at the end when things get more intense. My birth in 2020 began unmedicated with midwife support in-hospital, and ultimately ended in c-section due to lack of progress (water breaking before contractions started, among other complications outside of our control). She helped me navigate birth at a hospital amongst the chaos of 2020 times, and was so incredibly reassuring about any of my concerns being a first time mom. Although the birth didn't end the way I initially desired, I felt supported during every decision, so the acceptance of the situation not going according to my initial desires was easier to arrive to with Alyssa's support. In 2023, I had a beautiful VBAC at a birth center. This experience was wholeheartedly different, where I was able to spend most of my time laboring at home. Alyssa walked beside me during every step of the way (for many hours again, as my body brings babies very slowly and intensely to earth ). She massaged, recommended position changes and whispered sweet nothings in my ear all night and morning while my husband was able to rest. I am so thankful to have worked with Cherry Blossom Doula and Postpartum Services. As first time parents, my husband and I were a little clueless and nervous about all things baby and Cherry Blossom brought so much calmness to our family. We worked with Melissa as our birth doula. She was great at communication and was always a text away to answer questions or support us. She helped us make a birth plan and met with us before the big day to make sure we felt ready and gave us all the recommendations. I ended up being sent to the hospital early for an induction and she was there to answer all of our questions decreasing any worries we had. I labored for 3 days before I had to pivot to a c-section. Melissa was a call away multiple times during this experience to help us think through our options. As a previous labor and delivery nurse she was able to provide us with extra details into the process making us feel comfortable with each step we took. During the c-section she not only supported me but she supported my husband when they took me back to the operating room. We were fortunate enough to get her into the operating room so she could support my husband and take pictures of the event for memories. We also worked with Alyssa for the Placenta Encapsulation service. She answered all of my questions about the service and made delivering the items a breeze after birth. I also want to give a huge shout out to Alyssa for her match making skills. She did my initial interview for the doula services and answered all 20 million questions I had and then matched us with a great doula. For our postpartum journey, we were so lucky to get Marlene. Marlene was the best thing that could have happened for our family. As first time parents with no family located close by, my husband and I were a little clueless on everything. Marlene stepped into our lives and made sure we were taken care of. I ended up having a c-section and came home extremely swollen and tired from a long labor process. She made sure she was visiting us within the first week and provided support in more ways than one. She supported me as a mom, she supported my son, and she supported my husband - which was super important to me. Marlene taught us so many things about being parents like breastfeeding (she also gave me a lactation resource), showed us how to swaddle, taught us how to give our little man a bath, taught about pace feeding and bottles, and so many other things. She gave me so many recommendations and resources to help me on my first time mom journey. I would have been lost without her. I truly feel that she helped me stay positive during the most vulnerable weeks of my postpartum. She was there to talk to about anything and everything and made my husband and I feel super comfortable. She encouraged us to nap and take time for ourselves. I have never felt more safe than I did with Marlene. I never once worried about my son when he was in her care because I know she cares for each of her babies like they are her own. I have absolutely no clue where to begin with this. One, because it is long overdue, but also because how can I put into words the most amazing group of doulas a mother could ask for? Our journey actually goes back to Spring of 2018 and me, soon to be mother, looking for support with my birth. Cue an instagram hashtag search and boom Cherry Blossom Doula. This beautiful page was full of mothers from all walks of life being supported by this amazing soul by their side. I knew then this was my person! I soon met with this amazing soul, Alyssa, the owner, founder, and one woman show. Within our first meeting, I knew that she was the support my husband and I wanted and needed! We created a just in case plan since I was planned to have a birthing center birth. She was very detailed and made sure I would be not only happy, but healthy during my labor. In the wee hours of an April night my little one decided he was ready to make his entrance. Alyssa came without hesitation with her Monster can in one hand and camera in the other. She kept me not only focused on bringing the baby earth side, but also kept my anxious husband calm as I rocked through contractions. She was cool and collected through the entire labor and as he made his grand entry she captured the most breathtaking photographs of the birth. Fast forward to 2021, we now had a three and half year old in tow as we made our way to Cherry Blossom Doula's new home at Root and Rise for our first appointment with our second child. Alyssa was not only no longer a one woman show, but grew to now offer both birth and postpartum doula services. I was ready to have all the amazing energy for baby number two! Like the first time around, we created a plan of how we would like this birth to go. The only difference is this time I planned for a home birth. Alyssa was set to be my doula, and I was absolutely stoked that she was going to be there to see the arrival of baby number two. One thing I have learned with my pregnancies is DO NOT MAKE PLANS! Why you ask? The universe chooses and makes those plans. Just like my first labor, my contractions started in the evening, however at the time I thought they were just Braxton Hicks. Alyssa was attending another birth, but gave a a full heads up that IF my "baby got spicy to call the backup". Welp folks, baby not only got spicy but added a whole heaping of hot sauce to my night! Good thing I keep hot sauce in my bag (Beyonce reference)! Anyways, plans changed quick and while we would have loved Alyssa to be there, the stars aligned and Kristy came rushing in around midnight. I may have met her once, and it had been quite some time...like four years! Here I was laboring in my safe space, I never saw her face until much later as I walked through my room but she kept me calm and focused and mentally in the game. In the early morning hours our second little joined us and she captured beautiful photos of our new family of four. And as we quietly enjoyed our new little and cuddled, she was there until we felt we were okay. Just when I thought this team couldn't get any better, for our postpartum journey we hired Jennifer to support us. She came in for 8 weeks and helped us from changing diapers, to cooking nutrient rich meals, to playing with our older little, and holding the baby when I needed breaks. When she wasn't busy doing these things, we formed a true bond that I feel will last forever! After my first son was born, I truly felt alone and after my husband went back to work and without any help, managing things around the house seemed unlikely. So having Jennifer there with her energy was everything I needed in my postpartum journey! I have been asked many times with both pregnancies why hire a doula. For starters my husband and I have no family in the Valley. So we needed the support and as we all know birthing is like walking into a new job with no or little training. I originally interviewed Alyssa when I was pregnant with my 1st in 2020 and absolutely adored her, but at the time we were unable to make it work due to hospital policies. When I first booked with Cherry Blossom Doulas (CBD) in March 2023 I was excited to be making this investment into my labor & birth experience. I went to monthly classes & was in contact with my doula, building our relationship and asking questions, leading up to my due date in October. By the time we got to my 36 week meeting- she seemed a bit burned out & I knew she'd been taking on a lot of different clients & classes. We talked about what was going to happen & 1 thing stood out- she said "DO NOT CALL ME WHEN ITS HAPPENING." She said if I could talk on the phone & was smiling there was no way I would be far enough into active labor for her to come. She said I'd be crying, throwing up, screaming etc. & I trusted her. She said I would have to have my husband call her because this would mean I was in active labor. She explained how annoying it was when 1st time moms would call & she would go and they'd only be in early labor and barely dilated & she'd have to leave again & come back when they were actually in active labor. I promised not to call until I was in active labor. My water had broken the night before my 39 week OB appointment and my OB had immediately sent me over to the hospital when I contacted her. I was in contact with my doula & she told me she had appointments with clients that day but I should send her updates and she would come by to see me later that night. There was a 4 hour gap when I was in early labor- vomiting, crying, & panicking- when my husband took over the updates & said things were getting intense but I was only dilated to 1cm so I wasn't in "active labor". My doula finally called to check in with me after I received an epidural but I still was only dilated to 2cm & really didn't need her help at that point.1-2 hours later the baby's condition suddenly worsened & I texted my doula to tell her the baby was in danger & I required a c-section. She called me immediately & asked me what was going on that would warrant a c-section. I explained the medical complications that justified an emergency c-section since my midwife & nurse had been discussing the situation with me & I was making a fully educated decision to save my baby's life since, again, I was only dilated to 2cm. My doula was flustered & told me that most of my reasons were not that big of a deal. My nurse stepped in to try to help give some clarity & there was a tense exchange between them. My doula then felt that she was entitled to tell my care team to leave the room and advise me privately on what was best for me and my baby- even though she wasn't & hadn't been there. She said she was coming to the hospital. (Without an invitation from me- because she would not be allowed in the OR even if she had been there the whole time & I certainly did not ask her to come to waste her time then.) She was an hour away & showed up 30 minutes after I had delivered. She saw me & the baby, chatted for a minute & then left. When I contacted the company about the $1,200 payment I'd made- with the whole point being support during labor & birth (beyond just texts & calls) but not having received any, CBD's HR rep. blamed me. She said I'd never "invited" my doula to come to my birth (although $1,200 and months of conversations seems like an awesome invitation to me). She blamed the hospital staff for not stepping in early on to help me. She blamed me for accepting an induction agent after my water had been broken for 16 hours & I was at risk of infection. She blamed my husband for not calling my doula when I was not ever dilated past 2 cm. She blamed anyone & everyone except her company's policies & then directed me back to my contract to show me that I had actually agreed to never blame CBD as well. I was told that they were listening, had heard every word I said, and understood how scary and unpredictable it can be to be a first time mom in labor. And I was told that I did not "qualify" for a refund, because I did not make the right choices (According to their contract- a C-section automatically disqualifies you for a refund. However, a miscarriage will qualify you for a full one!). Let me tell you how incredible this team of doula's is- I had a long, hard birth. I was trying for a VBAC and reached out to Cherry Blossom for Doula services. Alyssa was my Doula, and I wish I could repay her for the incredible experience I had even through big plan changes. N She knew the difference between me speaking through the pain as a birther versus me genuinely asking for a change in my birth plan. She knew the difference between trauma pain sounds and birth pain sounds. I attribute that not only to her level of skill and deep intuition, but also to her efforts in getting to know me as a person. Her calm helped me stay calm. Never once did she seem frazzled or scared for me even when I was feeling that way. She was the peace through the chaos of the unknowing's and through the fear of being transferred to the hospital though that was far from my original plan. She helped me feel very confident in my choice because there wasn't any nervousness in her response to my request to go to the hospital, she helped me rationalize through the options, and I felt confident that I was making the right one - even through my midwife not supporting this choice. Once we were at the hospital, I had no fears about being there, although there was so much trauma in the hospital setting for me from my previous experience. I credit that so much to her presence. She was my confidant through my entire birth, she knew what to look for, how to communicate with the hospital staff, she helped me communicate my needs when I couldn't, she helped me decipher what my needs were when I didn't feel able to on my own. I'll never forget her grace in dealing with the sassy nurses. I think that would've felt much harder if I didn't have her as a cushion to help me communicate and still feel safe. I am forever indebted to Alyssa and her team. I walked away from a birth that was five days long between prodromal labor through the end, a very unplanned hospital birth, (not to mention a very unplanned second cesarean) without any ounce of trauma. By my third pregnancy, I FINALLY decided it was time for a doula. I had my 2nd without meds and wanted the same for this one. What a blessing randomly stumbling across Cherry Blossom's website has been for my family and me! My husband and I were not planning on hiring a doula until after taking childbirth classes and realizing how much of a benefit it would be to have a knowledgeable birth professional help us through labor and delivery, as well as educate and advocate for us. ESPECIALLY as this was our first child and we would be expecting him during a pandemic which meant family and friends could not attend birth or help us once we brought our newborn home. While Cherry Blossom has an amazing lineup of women working for them, we selected Megan Straub to be our labor and delivery doula as her bio explicitly mentioned inclusivity and after meeting with her for an initial interview it was obvious she was a perfect choice. We felt heard, prepared, and empowered while working with Megan and although our birth story went as planned in no way (emergency induction at 37 weeks, 7 day hospital stay, etc), she was a source of calm throughout the storm. She was available 24/7 for any questions we had during the process, helped us advocate for our specific needs, and was a huge help for my husband and myself during labor (back labor especially) and delivery. She radiates positivity and will make you feel as though you are the most powerful woman on earth and capable of anything (which you are!). After coming home with a newborn a few weeks earlier than expected and an exhausting 7 day hospital stay, we decided to look into Cherry Blossom's post-partum services as well. We were connected with Marlene and had the privilege of having her support for 3 weeks (we miss her dearly already). Marlene was able and willing to do whatever we needed to support us and the baby in our first few weeks. Being a mom herself and an educated doula, she was able to answer questions and give us some tips and tricks as new parents. She also helped out around the house with tasks which helped take the burden off of our shoulders and always checked in to see how we were doing/feeling, making sure to listen and encourage us to take care of our needs as well as the baby. Doula Marlene was incredible to our family! She came into our lives two months into the shutdown in May 2020 and helped us with our Pandemic baby. With little to no support nearby, she was able to help us learn to navigate life with a colicky baby. She taught us many tips and tricks to help us get our baby to sleep, bottle feed, etc. She was a support system we did not realize we needed so badly then, especially during the height of the pandemic. We had our second boy in March 2023, and hiring her again for postpartum support was an absolute no-brainer. I reached out when I was already around 32 weeks pregnant and was feeling very discouraged with the care I was receiving with my prenatal providers. I felt so supported in that initial call and so grateful that she took me on as a client even that late in my pregnancy. I worked with Alyssa as my birth doula and Marlene as my postpartum doula for my pregnancy. Both were INCREDIBLE and absolutely crucial to my journey. Both Alyssa and Marlene connected me to trusted providers/resources such as prenatal yoga, chiropractic care, lactation consultant, etc... Marlene was so knowledgeable and taught me so much about newborn care and supplies. She also helped me immensely with my own physical and emotional healing, and even rubbed my feet! She helped me process my birth. I loved that she was in contact with Alyssa about my journey! My dogs loved her and she even tidied up my kitchen when I was napping during her visits. Megan Straub was our family's doula during the birth of our son Alejandro in 2022. We began working with her in 2021 to prepare for his birth. We immediately felt comfort upon meeting her. As this was our first birth experience we had a lot of anticipation and questions around the unexpected journey that was in front of us. She was so helpful on the actual date of birth in being an advocate for our family and the plans that we had laid out together. I didn't know what a postpartum doula was until my sister had twins - she had someone come a couple nights a week to help transition to being at home after the hospital. I knew if I had another child (I had two already), that I would definitely want to find someone too! I hired my incredible birth doula, Kristy, through Cherry Blossom and through them I also found a postpartum doula, Hannah, who did exactly what I was hoping for. My son is 3 months old now and I miss her so much already! Hannah was incredible - she came 11pm - 7am 2 nights a week for 10 weeks. After having a baby, it's so hard to communicate about almost anything especially when it comes to receiving help. Hannah didn't need almost any direction at all which was such a gift. My husband or I would let her know basics, like the last time the baby ate and when he went down to sleep and she would take it from there. She would bring him in to me to nurse in the middle of the night or she would do a bottle. She was flexible if we needed to change the schedule and was always so quick to respond - she was so good to me and my baby (and husband and other kids!). She was so encouraging and sweet, never offered unsolicited advice, only responded if I had questions. She said "sounds great! and sure!" to everything. I didn't feel like I ever needed to clean or prepare before she came at all - she just fit right into the household. I would find my kitchen clean the mornings she had been there overnight; all my pump parts and bottles were always clean and dried. The nursery looked great and all put together. Even if there was clean laundry in a pile, it was all folded and put away. I slept so hard when Hannah was here, I knew my baby was well taken care of. I would be rested and happy the day after she was there and was truly be able to give all my kids more love and energy. I wish she could still come but I know there are families out there that need her more so soon after birth. She is amazing - she did so much for us. read more

I felt it necessary to post my experience so others know the risks of using a company that claims they care about the well-being of mothers when in fact I first handedly experienced the opposite. I wondered why they had ultimately no bad reviews but now I know. After an awful experience which I first offered the company to do the right thing. I was offered a very minimal refund to my full payment that also came with a contract that stated I would not personally write any negative comments about the company nor influence anyone else to. I chose to not take the minimal refund with a gag order and instead wanted to share my experience. I had hired the doula service to be with me throughout my entire pregnancy and labor. In my 36 week meeting with my doula she ensured that if there was another mom in labor she would have an adequate back up to assist in my labor but it rarely happens. Of course I had been laboring for days and when it came time she was in another labor. I then was offered her back up and I had reached out to let her know what was going on. I was in extreme pain and my contractions were getting stronger. I was told to get in the bath and take a sleeping aid... I was in and out of the bath all night and finally I couldn't take it anymore. I called her back up and she didn't answer, she called back and was sleeping. She said oh it still sounds like early labor, get back in the bath. I told her I was in so much pain and I was at a loss and she just reiterated to get back in the bath. I was told my doula was in another labor and would reach out to me when she was finished. After another few hours and bleeding I decide to go into the hospital which I was admitted and had quickly gone into labor. By the time I was contacted by my doula I was already fully in labor and was at a 6cm. She then offered to come staying that for clients who go with an epidural she comes at 6-8cm. At that point I didn't need her to join the birth as it escalated quickly and I had delivered within the hour. I had let her know how unhappy I was and that I needed her in early labor or her backups assistance. She at that point offered her photography services which is not what I had paid for. I paid for someone to instruct me on different positions I could get in in early labor, I paid for them to show my partner how to assist me and make me feel more comfortable. After going back and forth with no one, including the owner taking accountability I was offered a small refund as long as I signed a contract to not write or speak poorly on the company. Everything was written as if instructed by a legal team and they wouldn't admit any fault, in fact they placed the blame on me. Can you imagine this company that "supports" mother in labor placing fault on a mother that was in early and active labor... shocking Keep this in mind when choosing your doula service. There are many out there that I'm sure have the best interest of mothers at heart. This isn't one of them! **to the response, I did let them know I wanted their presence in early labor and it was not received. I was told to get in the bath... don't let their response fool you. The best investment we have made. We booked Cherry Blossom for a birth doula and a postpartum doula. This was my third baby but my first birth without an epidural. I am telling you there is NO WAY I could have done this birth without Kristy - my birth doula. My husband is incredible. He is so supportive and hands on, but I needed Kristy 110% as well. I would have been screaming for that epidural if she hadn't been there. Marlene is a magical unicorn. She is so educated. Even though this was my third baby and I know what I am doing, I was still learning from Marlene. Marlene & Kristy both were priceless. Kristy took photos during the birth and I will cherish them forever. I love their meetups while pregnant and I really love that they have meetups for postpartum moms as well. All of their instagram accounts are great to follow. All the ladies there are so kind and loving. We hired Megan early on in my pregnancy, fully intending to use her knowledge and support during a vaginal labor. As my pregnancy progressed, I had some complications that led me to schedule a c-section. This was not what I had planned, and I wasn't quite sure how a doula would fit into my new birth plan. I was so so so pleased by how everything worked out, and Megan was such a very special part of my c-section experience. My water ended up breaking a week before the c-section was scheduled, which meant the procedure would be moved up to that same day. I texted Megan, and she was ready to come and meet me at the hospital. I was worried they wouldn't let both her and my wife into the triage area, so Megan waited in the parking lot, waiting for the "OK" from me to come in. I can't thank Megan enough for her calming energy while we all waited to go to the OR. I swear my wife and I would have been a nervous wreck if we didn't have Megan there!! In the OR, Megan took the most beautiful photos of my "belly birth." There is one in particular that I cherish of the OB taking my baby out of my womb, and my baby's little hand reaching out. These photos are heirlooms that we will treasure. After we were rolled into the recovery room, Megan said goodbye at just the perfect time. She was never rushed, and I feel like it's important to say that she was 100% present during the time she was with us. I am almost one week postpartum and wanted to write a review about our amazing experience with Alyssa. I didn't have a Doula with my first delivery in California although I really wish I had. I had a pretty traumatic delivery and wished I had the support and knowledge that a Doula offers. When I got pregnant again I knew I wanted a different experience than my previous, Alyssa was recommended to me by two different people. After having a phone call and meeting in person I knew she really understood what I went through previously and I knew she'd be a positive force during my next delivery. Over the course of my pregnancy I would often check in with her if something changed or I wanted advice related to my pregnancy. She's very easy to talk to and offers very sound advice. I used her for a maternity milkbath photoshoot and I love all the photos from this session, she's an amazing Photographer as well. I mean really, what can't Alyssa do?! I ended up being induced with my pregnancy due to the baby's size and she showed up for my labor at the perfect time. Her support and suggestions during labor we're amazing, she suggested new positions that really helped the time and contractions seem to go by faster. She pushed me to push myself and I really admire that. Overall I had a very positive birth experience from the last one and a beautiful, healthy baby boy. I'm looking forward to meeting with her at my postpartum meeting in a couple weeks. I would highly recommend Alyssa to anyone whose interested in having a Doula. From the moment we met Alyssa last November we knew that she was the Doula we were looking for. Her demeanor was incredibly warm and she was extremely professional and knowledgable. Alyssa provided us several package options and was very upfront about what she could/could not provide and how she handled issues that arise, such as two births at the same time. We never had any issues with giving a deposit and paying up front. Now onto the most important thing... Alyssa was incredibly supportive of MY wishes, and my wishes were to have a completely Unmedicated birth. She did everything in her power from words to massage to position changes to essential oils, and was extremely encouraging and positive which really helped me push through and I delivered naturally despite a grueling 13hrs of back labor! In addition to being a wonderful and supportive doula, she also captured photos that I will treasure forever and she did the placenta encapsulation and tincture. She was always available to me to answer questions pre and postpartum via text or call, and to this day I still feel like I could go to her for support if I had questions. Birth is intimate. Birth is special. Birth is hard. Birth is always different. Knowing those things I sought out to find a person. Not just a person but woman who would be "my person". Who would be there to assist me however this baby and body of mine needed. Who would be there to support my husband so he could feel supported or knew I would be supported if he needed a break. Who would be there to guide my kids if they wanted to help me but they weren't sure how. Who would I want to invite into my home for one of the most special moments of my life. Without question when I met this woman I KNEW it was her. Something about Cherryblossom doulas is special. Something about them glows. They are birth angels in every way possible. When they say a doula is a person that provides physical and emotional support to you and your partner... well let me just say that sentence isn't enough. These women bring their hands, their tools, their hearts, their souls, and their love to your place of birth and they give it all to you to borrow. They give themselves completely over physically and mentally for you to use as you bring a new life earthside. The amount of times I felt safe, calm, protected because of the woman in this picture reminding me I was will NEVER be unappreciated, it will never be forgotten. We had a wonderful experience with Marlene from Cherry Blossom as our postpartum doula. She came to our house once per week for 6 weeks. Prior to the baby's birth Marlene visited with us to discuss how she may support our family and me as the mother postpartum. This being our 3rd baby perhaps the support we desperately needed looked a bit different than a first time mom. Each time Marlene arrived we'd talk about what support was needed on that day and then she'd quickly jump into action. She helped with such a variety of things and always knew exactly where to help even if we hadn't specifically talked about it. Examples of things the postpartum doula helped with during her 4 hour visits: holding baby so we could spend time with our older 2 kids and/or during dinner, helping with meal prep, coloring and playing with the older 2 to keep them occupied while I nursed baby, putting away clean laundry, doing dishes, picking up toys, bringing sitz bath, caring for children while I could cook (helping me feel somewhat normal doing cooking which I like), gave baby bottle, etc. Marlene established a bond with the kids and they would ask when she was coming next! She helped us keep the nights moving regularly for our older 2 during those hectic few weeks. I couldn't imagine experiencing the wonders of birth any other way. Having Hannah at just a phone call away was such a stress reliever for my partner and I as this was our first child. Initially my partner and I wanted to try and do everything on our own with Hannahs guidance but when the time came I am SOOO blessed to have had Hannah there to step in when laboring got tough. She knows exactly how to get you in a tranced state to guide you through the ebs and flows of contractions.
