She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

She knew just where to touch, and exactly what to say during contractions, especially at the end when things get more intense. My birth in 2020 began unmedicated with midwife support in-hospital, and ultimately ended in c-section due to lack of progress (water breaking before contractions started, among other complications outside of our control). She helped me navigate birth at a hospital amongst the chaos of 2020 times, and was so incredibly reassuring about any of my concerns being a first time mom. Although the birth didn't end the way I initially desired, I felt supported during every decision, so the acceptance of the situation not going according to my initial desires was easier to arrive to with Alyssa's support. In 2023, I had a beautiful VBAC at a birth center. This experience was wholeheartedly different, where I was able to spend most of my time laboring at home. Alyssa walked beside me during every step of the way (for many hours again, as my body brings babies very slowly and intensely to earth ). She massaged, recommended position changes and whispered sweet nothings in my ear all night and morning while my husband was able to rest. When it came time to go to the birth center and bring baby into the world, it was her voice that carried me though the intensity of the end of an unmedicated birth. I highly recommend Cherry Blossum for doula services, they are the ABSOLUTE best.

This review is a long time coming…read more I meant to write this shortly after our son was born, however, I was caught up in the early fog of sleepless motherhood and the words I wrote early on never seemed to showcase how I really felt about our experience with Ashley and LoveBug Doula. When I wrote this review I wanted to convey just how much Ashley Wain meant to my husband and I and the success of the birth of our son. I met Ashley at an event when I was about six months pregnant and I had read about doulas online previous to meeting her. As a natural lifestyle advocate, the idea definitely intrigued me even though I'd planned a hospital birth due to placenta complications. Going into my pregnancy I knew I wanted it to be as intervention free and medication free as possible I just didn't know how I was going to get there - as I am someone who is anxiety prone and who feels has a low pain tolerance. I put my faith in God that He would get me there to achieve my birthing goals and it was an exceptional blessing that he led my husband and I to meeting Ashley. When I first met her she made me feel so comfortable and I felt like I had known her for years. I knew that if we went the route of hiring a Doula it would have to be her. Her spots were filling up quickly so I had my husband come in and speak with her right away, and again, everything in me was telling me that I needed to hire her and so I went home that night and my husband and I actually talked about it at length for a few days. We ended up deciding to make her a part of our birthing team and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't believe that that was the best decision I made for our birth. The care that she gave to us, the way that she spoke life into me for 29 hours during a painful an all natural birth, the patience and strength within her and the way she supported not only me and my son, but my husband and my hospital team, solidified over and over again, hour after hour, that she was meant to be there. If you are considering a Doula but are skeptical or have reservations know that we did too. It was a leap of faith that we took and I believe with everything in me that I would not have had the birth experience that I had and I would not have been able to labor as long as I did naturally had it not been for Ashley's professional coaching, friendly disposition and overall knowledge of the birth process. I cannot say enough good things about this amazing woman and the talents that she has. If I am so blessed to have anymore babies I will do everything in my power to be able to have Ashley on my team again.

We hired Ashley for the birth of my second child, when I was attempting an unmedicated VBAC after a horrendous experience with my first birth. I knew I wanted labor support for this birth, but honestly hiring a doula was a little "crunchy" and outside of our realm of comfort. From the first meeting with Ashley I could tell that I was completely wrong! Ashley was so real and down to earth, and made us both feel completely at ease and prepared for our TOLAC and hopeful VBAC. During actual labor, Ashley came when I told her I needed her, and helped me to do relax through contractions and do some exercise to try to turn my posterior baby. We labored at home with her help for as long as possible, and when I felt "pushy" she got us to the hospital and into a room ready to have a baby! Her coaching through early labor, transition, and especially pushing was instrumental to my successful VBAC. She was amazing at addressing my fears during labor and made sure I was informed and felt completely in control the whole time, as well as kept my husband calm and helped him to be involved with helping me. My life and the life of my child was put at risk choosing this place. At 38/39 weeks an ultrasound…read morecaught an issue. The diagnosis was something that the midwives said they could handle. However the ultrasound doctor strongly advised to give birth at a hospital. At the time we didn't understand why or the urge to sway us away from the birthing center. When we told the midwive she immediately tried getting rid of me as a patient. I had to call around different doctor offices trying to be seen at 39 weeks which was impossible to get an appointment. My husband finally bugged the midwife enough for her to tell me to "go to a hospital, lie about having contractions" that she would make a call and have some random doctor that I've never met claim me as his patient for me to be admitted. We were left with no doctor, no help, no answers, told to lie to medical staff. It was completely stressful. No medical facility should ever treat someone like this ! Especially someone who is pregnant . It turns out that OUR midwive was responsible for the death of a baby during labor. 3 months prior to my delivery. Along with a list of previous medical misconduct. In the end we lucked out with a healthy baby, but literally shame on all of you. Chelsea was absolutely incredible, she was with us for the evenings the first week our little one came into the world. We also had her back for the week my husband transitioned back to work so I could get caught up on sleep. Chelsea taught us a lot of great tricks to try for calming our fussy baby, she helped around the house, and she's the swaddle queen. Ask for a lesson and practice, you won't regret it. She was open to our long list of continuous questions, and helped us see that we had to continue to try a combination of things until something worked to soothe our baby. Chelsea also continued to reinforce our efforts and remind us we were doing a great job, even on days we were ready to give up. I'm so grateful to Anna at Arizona Doulas for making the time to have an introductory call with us at the beginning to help us understand how a doula could be beneficial. Anna provided the various options and let us customize our support needs. Anna made sure we knew this journey was about us and getting situated and acclimated as a newly expanded family. I don't even know how to begin this review as I am in the midst of grieving the loss of our 16 week…read morebaby girl but it's important to me to express this experience, especially for any families going through birth or loss. I hired Kelly again after my first successful birth of my daughter in 2024. Since this time, I hired Kelly when I found out I was pregnant in May 2025. Unfortunately, in August we lost our little boy at 12 weeks gestation. I had delivered baby boy at home but Kelly was one of the first people I told, I remember her crying with me over the phone, this gave such comfort in that moment. She was just a text away to offer any assistance. I didn't ask her to be there, I was in shock and didn't know how to handle this experience at the time, I was just so focused on delivering at home and really didn't know what to expect, even though Kelly did educate me. She checked in on me through those hours and following days. She offered resources of miscarriage support and healing. In January we got pregnant again, Kelly was one of the first people I told. I wanted her to doula for us but was nervous to commit until after 14 week visit. She totally understood and gave me time to process. Everything had gone so smooth with baby's growth and development. I booked Kelly right after that 14 week visit, my husband and I were so excited to have her as our doula again. We saw our amazing OB, Dr. Hervey at my 18 week appointment and we were shocked and heartbroken again to find out we lost our baby girl. This time it was decided to deliver the baby at the hospital for safety reasons. I was extremely nervous especially as I was still healing from delivering my baby boy at home just 8 months prior. Kelly again was devastated, I asked her if there were any miscarriage doulas who could support us during this time. Without hesitation Kelly said she would be there for us in any capacity. I can't tell you how relieved my husband and I felt knowing Kelly would be there with us. I was induced at 9 am, Kelly checked in regularly throughout the day. By evening labor started slightly, felt like it was going to be awhile for this process to begin. Kelly showed up to the hospital and I instantly broke down with relief when I saw her. Once she arrived I could feel my body say, you're safe to have this baby now. She supported me through the tough mental moments of birthing our angel child. She cried with us, helped me stay hydrated and focused, got me into more comfortable positions and per my request, she took photos of our journey in that hospital room (actually the same hospital room we birthed my living child almost exactly 2 years prior) . Even though an extremely painful experience, Kelly met us with grace, love, and comfort and made my child's birth healing for us. A miscarriage birth is already hard and traumatic, let alone going through back to back losses. Kelly showed up in the most profound healing way. I didn't feel alone or scared. I always joke but I'm actually serious, Kelly is my pain control. Forget the epidurals or pain meds when Kelly is with you. We will get through it, we always do. Kelly you truly are a gift from God, supporting mommas and families through the beauty of child birth. You supported my family through the loss of our angel baby and gave her the dignified birth she deserved and you gave us the healing we didn't know we needed. The photos you took help us heal and remember that even through the darkness there is light, there is healing, and there is support. We didn't have to do this alone.
