This whole in the wall is not much to look at with only two eat in tables serves the normal Chinese menu. Nothing exciting but well prepared and tasty. FYI - they do not take credit card. read more

Chen's Garden. I ordered chicken with broccoli, lo mein combo platter with an egg roll. Egg roll was bad, oil had leaked into one end Chicken was not cooked, rubbery. Broccoli was raw and had long stalks that should have been trimmed some. Overall horrible meal. I returned 75 percent of it. Never go there!! read more

We ordered quite a bit of food for a large party. Based on the reviews (and 1of 2 chinese take outs in town), we figured we give it a try. For the most part, the food wasn't too bad nor was it great. Ordered the beef with veggies and it seemed like it was mostly large chunks of onions. The general's chicken was rather sweet and not spicy at all. It was a little disappointing. For vegetarians, I was told that the veggie moo sho was good. The chicken Lomein seemed good as the kids devoured it. The dumplings and wanton soups were average and comparable to other places. What's weird is that it's only cash or check transactions. Checks must be from a Penn Yan bank. For being 1 of 2 chinese take outs in town, I'll give it a "satisfactory " rating. Not too bad. Ordinary but still filled us up. Dumplings a little doughy. Little light on the meat. Wife got only two shrimp in her lomein.

Food is fast, delicious, and prices are reasonable. One of my favorite Chinese food places around! Definitely recommended

RUDE RUDE RUDE. We ordered from here regularly. They made a mistake on an item in my order and I called to let them know and ask if I can come back to get the correct thing (it was an allergy issue so we couldn't just settle for what we got.) She tells us no and says "next time be careful!" Not how you treat regular customers without losing them and having then resort to complaining on social media. read more

Traveling in from out of town we were looking for a quick takeout meal for our group of 5 on a Sunday night. Chen's was a bad choice. What was most upsetting and what they do not tell you on the phone and should is that they are cash only. I did not have enough cash on me at the time, so had to go out to get more cash after getting there to pick up our order. Came back within 5 mins with the cash. THEN they began to cook our food. I waited in there for almost 30 minutes for our large order. This was after the 35-40 min promised time told on the phone. And no it was not just my order, I noticed with every person that came in and paid that they also did not begin making and assembling their order until after they paid too. Who wants people crowded in their small waiting area for 30+ mins while they cook food and also who wants cash during times of COVID? Anywhere else you go they have you pay by card only (and usually in advance over the phone) and they alert you when the order is ready so that you are not crowding with others inside. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing establishment. No, I didn't expect big, great things from a local Chinese spot but would have appreciated the decency of a heads up about the cash and our order being ready even remotely close to our promised time (especially after a long day of travel with a hungry group). Would much prefer China King as we have ordered there before and been very satisfied, but unfortunately they are closed on Sunday's. And no, after all this, the food was nothing to write about...mediocre at best (again not expecting anything spectacular from a place like this, but from the high cash-only price point would have hoped for better). read more

Although I went on a busy Saturday and my wait was a little longer than expected, they were cooking away and the restaurant smelled great. Once I paid and received my order she thanked me and I was on my way. Great for take out or if you want to dine in there is a small dining area with a few tables as well. Everything tasted great too. Food is solid, place is clean, we take out quite regularly from there, have never had an issue with quality or service. I like my stuff extra spicy, extra crispy and no onions, they always get it right unlike McDonald's lol read more

Pretty good pricing and the food were great. Tried a lot of Chinese food over the pass years and the food at Chen's Garden surpass all of them. The cashier, who was a kid, was extremely polite and friendly. Would totally recommend for anyone who is planning to try out Asian cuisines! read more

While still better than China King on Lake St, Chen's Garden's food has lost it's consistency since new people have been cooking. Portions are irregular as well as taste. It's still clean at least. I want the original owners who cooked back! read more

Used to eat there about once a month for the past eight years. Orders were inconsistant but the food was generally ok. Last night they botched my order and didn't realize it until I got home...had ot drive back to town. I politely told them of the mistake and the owner became argumentative and blamed me for the error. I was shocked! We will never go back to Chen's in Penn Yan! read more

The quality of the food degraded about a year ago. The restaurant started lowering the amount of meat, vegetables, and flavor while increasing the amount of rice their dishes contain. It is sad because this used to be my favorite Chinese food place in the area. Just very poor quality food now. read more
