One of my favorite Japanese places EVER!! The food there is great, I normally order a bento box (delicious) or any of their sushi (all great.) Honestly, I believe anything you try here will be very yummy. There's few restaurants that have great food AND an amazing ambiance, but I'm happy to say that Ichiro is absolutely one of those rare places! It's got a super nice vibe, and all of the servers are great! I've STILL never tried the hibachi there, but when I do, I have no doubt it will be great! It always looks like fun. First visit was in 2018, then 2020, now in 2026 with a sadly, slightly different experience. Walking in we were quickly greeted and seated. I recall the soft-shell crab appetizer being one of my favorites from my previous visits and I had to opt in for it. I found this time around; the soft-shell crab was of a smaller size and clumsily presented. As for the Blue Mango Tuna, these were tasty and we had no complaints there. For entrees, the girlfriend opted in for the Teriyaki Steak Bento Box. The steak was tender, and a huge highlight was the tempura. Hot, crispy and perfectly fried. As for my Sushi Deluxe, I was a bit disappointed. The salmon tasted off, and as much as I don't personally like tilapia, even by tilapia standards, these weren't good. I did however enjoy the yellowtail since it was a cut from the belly section and the sweet shrimp (a la carte). We found our server to be on the dull side. He came off as if he hasn't gotten sleep in a few days and didn't seem too happy to be there. This is just our observation and definitely affected our entire revisit to a favorite restaurant of mine. We can also overhear a man at the host stand teaching a young girl mathematics and can overhear her frustration with it. Our Asian Sandwich came with no tempura flakes on top which states it does on the menu. This wasn't the great experience I've had over the years, and I'm on the fence whether to return or just make the drive to Rochester and visit one of the Japanese restaurants there. read more

Such a cute place! Was in the area and wanted a quick dinner. We did have a small wait but nothing horrible, less than 5min. We probably popped in around 8pm on a Sunday. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a salmon avocado roll, along with beef fried rice. My date got the steak and chicken combination hibachi with noodles. When the dishes initially came out, my date had gotten rice instead of noodles but when we let the waiter know, this was immediately remedied and we got the correct order in under two minutes. I tried the hibachi steak lunch special and the 3 rolls lunch special! It came with miso soup and salad with an amazing dressing! The miso soup was not good. The three rolls I had were: salmon, eel avocado, and the spicy white tuna. I was sad that there was so little rice for the sushi and that the seaweed was a little chewy because it got soggy from the rice. But the fish all tasted as they should and I enjoyed the spicy white tuna the most! It was had a savory nuttiness from the fish and the tempura bits mixed in a "spicy" sauce. The sauce was not spicy at all though and there was not a lot of sauce. On the other hand, the steak was so juicy! They cooked it perfect medium rare and it was so well seasoned! This is a large space for sushi and hibachi. They had decent rolls (I liked the spicy scallop crunch) but I would stay away from the sashimi (even the raw tuna wrapped around one of our rolls was a little suspect). Four of us stopped in for an early dinner to a quiet dining room, which had a steady flow of customers. Our first time here, we weren't sure what to expect, but the food was terrific. Sushi was fresh and well made. Udon was delicious. We also split several appetizers which were good. The sushi rolls were gigantic. At the end, we were all too full to order dessert. About the only negative was our server who seemed to be going through the motions. He was very soft spoken and did not seem all that happy to be there. Our party of 4 enjoyed the teppanyaki (very stereotypical, complete with the onion volcano and the chef "chucking" us pieces of zucchini into our mouths) dinner and also a few of us had some a la carte sush and the wonderful wonton and spinach soup. Been here a dozen or so times over the past five years (would go more frequently but we live in MI so we stop in while visiting in-laws). Most of the family gets the hibachi - which is quite entertaining and they all say their food is good. I gotta take their word for it as I must order sushi. A good variety of basic and special rolls. I love sashimi and have never been disappointed by the quality of the fish. I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar as the lead sushi chef will make a little special item for you - not dig something out of the cooler but make some delectable bite or two of something right in front of you. read more

Came here on a Saturday with a group of over 20. We came for drinks alone but then after a few drinks, we decided to order some apps and rolls. The staff was warm and welcoming and our one waitress for a table of 20+ DID HER THING! You would've thought our party had three waiters. She served us with a smile on her face, remembering orders and faces without the use of paper and pad at times. The drinks took some time to reach the table but we were informed that there was only one bartender on for the night. I purchased the Zombie (mix of white and dark rum, 151, OJ, and pineapple juice). This drink won the table over. Strong, affordable, and mixed very well. The sushi platter was pretty basic: tuna, yellowtail, and salmon. Fresh and cold! Did take-out of tuna avocado salad and salmon mango salad. Ordered both with sauces only on the side. The raw fish in both dishes was fresh and good quality. Both salads were creative and had lots of different ingredients. Both had a slice of radish and some sprouts with a kick. The salmon mango salad included seaweed salad and cucumber. The tuna avocado salad had very interesting field greens. The portion size was smaller than I expected, but we're in upstate NY and I live in Bergen County NJ where sushi is much more plentiful and easier to get. The decor is dated. Food also took a very long time to come out - both the appetizer and main course. We were left hungry for an excessive amount of time (only one person ordered appetizers). From arrival to departure, 1.5 hours. (We are a family that eats very fast so I would say really a whole hour of that was waiting around.) That said, 3/5. So glad my husband and I decided to stop to try out Ichiro. We picked it for lunch on a whim, and it ended up being awesome! I got the shrimp tempura bento box, and it was delicious, filling and great for variety. It came with miso soup, salad, white rice, two big shrimp tempura, a fried sweet potato slice, a piece of fried broccoli, an onion ring, two shumai and a California sushi roll. Such a great deal (especially since the quality was excellent)! My husband got filet minion hibachi which came with fried rice, miso soup and salad, and his was also delicious (we always share with each other, because it's fun). Continuing on our adventure to try all the sushi restaurants between Rochester and Syracuse, Ichiro was quite disappointing. We came here on a Wednesday and there weren't too many people in the restaurant, maybe three or four tables total including us. For some reason, they had two servers but it seemed like only one was working the floor and the other stayed behind the bar the whole time. It took quite awhile for us to get our drink orders in and then even longer to get our food orders taken. The waiter seemed to disappear in the back throughout the whole meal and was rarely seen on the floor at all and when he was seen, each table had to call him over to get their orders taken. It was genuinely a bizarre experience and I don't normally take service into account very heavily when I'm reviewing a restaurant, but this is an extreme exception. I feel like something happened before we got there or that there was some sort of problem because our waiter seemed like he was two seconds away from quitting on the spot. At the end of the meal, I still tipped him well and I hope for the best for him with whatever was going on. Onto the drink (note it's singular) and food. We started off by sharing a scorpion bowl, which in fairness was delicious, but our waiter never came back to see if we wanted anything more to drink after that. They do have cool straws, so that was nice. The food was as bad as the customer service. We ordered a sashimi appetizer, Ichiban Duck Roll, miso soup, Saba nigiri (mackerel sushi), salmon roll, spicy crunch scallop roll, and the exchange roll. The duck roll tasted great and was really different and innovative from what a lot of sushi places offer. Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff ends. Though the miso soup flavor was good, the seaweed in it was super thick and tough to chew. Our sashimi app didn't come out until after our main entrees were brought out and it was cut very incorrectly, with super thick, chewy, unpleasant pieces of fish. The Saba was definitely off or not fresh because it had more than just pickled funk coming off of it. The salmon roll was standard, which was fine, but the spicy crunchy scallop roll was neither spicy nor crunchy. The exchange roll just tasted and felt like a pile of mush. I really hope that we just came in an off day, because I really want a small local joint like this to live up to the good reviews it's been getting, but for us at this time, it was a fail. read more

A fun restaurant in a small town that deeply lacks Asian cuisine. The hibachi lunch combo was a crazy good deal. Lunch ranges from $10-13 for hibachi steak/filet mignon/scallops/shrimp/salmon/chicken/ or a combo of 2 different proteins. Although the "show" wasn't crazy spectacular, it was still hibachi regardless and the food came out tasty. The steak with scallops over fried rice was delicious. Especially the scallops! They were big and were nice and charred after they were cooked on the hot surface. Service was excellent! So refreshing since most Asian restaurants have terrible customer service. Hubby and I also shared The Exchange roll and the Volcano roll and these were soooo good! The fish tasted very fresh and the presentation was beautiful. My fiancee and I went to Ichiro's during dinnertime tonight and gave some more of the menu a chance. - Clear Soup: Instead of Miso, it's a traditional Japanese clear soup. Had mushroom and scallions in it. This soup was very tasty, not too salty, and overall fantastic. - Teriyaki Salmon: The dish came with salmon, grilled onions, carrots, and broccoli, all in a hot and simmering (fun!) metal dish. There was a sweet teriyaki sauce throughout it all. I enjoy watching my food sizzle in front of me, and the dish was really tasty. - Shrimp Tempura: My fiancee got this. The bit I tasted was good. The fried tempura batter was not too heavy and the accompanying sauce was pleasingly sweet. We weren't 100% sure what all of the vegetable pieces of tempura were, but she liked what she tried. I did notice though that the rice still suffers from being a little bit dry, but I actually put some of the teriyaki salmon and onion in my bowl, and the moistness from them more or less alleviated that. While we didn't get Hibachi at the Hibachi table, we had a view of what was going on, and the hibachi chefs seem to have some pretty solid flourishing skills. Looked fun, like hibachi is supposed to. Overall Update: I'm comfortable giving Ichiro a solid 4 and would recommend it. The prices are still in my opinion a touch on the high side, but there's nothing in Geneva like Ichiro to compare, and as mentioned before, it seems reasonably fair. The staff was still nice and the owner actually walked around introducing himself to people, which was cool. I wish they had Curry, Panko'd Katsus, and Ramen, but they claim to be a Hibachi and Sushi place, so I wouldn't expect them to have these things, so I can't take off for that.
