There's not much to say about Bertrand other than it was a complete disaster. Tucked into a random…read morestrip mall in Upper St. Clair, Bertrand is nestled in a rundown area that leaves a lot to be expected. Upon entering the restaurant, there are crystal chandeliers, bright colors, French posters, and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant had a lot of potential until we experienced the service and cuisine. I brought my Supper Club here, and we had a group of 8 of us. There was also a very large group at the restaurant. We were neglected on several occasions, and it took us 2 HOURS just to get our food order. That's not an exaggeration. Our waitress was rather snippy with us, and ended up apologizing at the end but it did make for an unpleasant experience. When we finally received our bread, we were so hungry that we scarfed it down despite it being not so great sour dough bread. Every dish was flavorless and left us wanting more. I had to send back the steak on two occasions: once for being undercooked and once for being overcooked. I ended up getting my meal for free. The Coquilles St. Jacques had the smallest scallops without the lovely scallop shell its usually served in. The shrimp cocktail tasted like anything you could get at the grocery store. The Nicoise Salad was just sad and flavorless. The porkchop and escargot had the most flavor. I will definitely not be back to this establishment. Our group did enjoy each other's company, and it created a very memorable experience even though it was an overall bad experience!

Unlike traditional French meals, ours did not take long to prepare (or devour) we loved the BYOB option, and chose to sit outdoors. There was a funny carpet smell when we arrived so I was glad we had the option to sit outside under an umbrella. This meal style wast really my thing.. lots of potatoes, and I didn't get much flavor from the meats. I don't know if I would return but I'm really glad we did come here to celebrate our anniversary!

There are parts of Pittsburgh that are slowly declining and the Southside is one of them. What once…read morewas bustling with bars and restaurants is now empty and filled with violence. Nonetheless, smacked dab in the emptiness of the Southside lies a hidden gem called Cafe du Jour! With a brightly lit outside, this little restaurant is nestled in between 2 vacant buildings, but that doesn't take away from its charm. Inside, the restaurant is very small and only has about 10 to 15 tables. The kitchen is small and right up front. There is an outside patio with a beautiful wall waterfall, which was obviously closed for the winter. I got a sneak peek, however. Its just so charming inside. Apparently, the menu changes seasonally and most likely even more frequently than that, which is just one of the many reasons to keep coming back for more! Here's what my friend and I tried: [Goat Cheese Fritter]: The flavors in this appetizer were phenomenal. The goat cheese fritter was the star of the show, but it so easily paired well with purple cabbaged beets and roasted pepper fondue. All the flavors meshed perfectly together. [Focaccia]: There was a tomato focaccia with a Bourbon black garlic spread that was so delicious. The focaccia was soft yet crisp and the spread gave a well rounded dynamic to the dish. [Mushrooms]: I don't like mushrooms but these were amazingly seasoned and seared. I loved the burrata and baguette which accompanied the dish. [Stuffed Chicken]: I can't say enough good things about this chicken. It was perfectly cooked and stuffed with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and a mushroom duxelles. All the flavors were exquisite and had me eating the entire dish. The butternut squash puree and smashed potato were delicious beyond belief. [Short Rib]: You could cut this rib with a fork. It just fell off the bone. The orzo that came with the dish was deliciously seasoned. [Flourless Chocolate Torte]: I don't normally like a lot of chocolate so this wasn't my favorite. There was also an almond whip cream on top that I didn't care for. [Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake]: This was so so so good. It was sweet but in the best way. The praline added a saltiness to the dessert. It was just all around amazing! I must say that this place was one of the best restaurants I tried this year. I cannot wait to come back and see what Chef Paul comes up with!

My only regret is that I could not eat everything on the menu. Had: meatballs and stuffed chicken breast for mains. The spinach/pecorino and crepe with spinach and onion jam for sides. On the menu these are under "LEGUMES" and titled: Truffle Frites. $12 and so worth it + shareable again. The truffle aioli was so yum. For our dinner we both ordered the chicken! Titled Poulet Rǒti on the menu! So flavorful. The best chicken breast I've had. & of course we had to finish with the Chocolate Soufflé! Heads up, if you know you want that for dessert, give them a heads up so it comes out after your meal! 10/10 experience. She offered to make a chocolate martini I said ok that sounded good. My husband ordered a beer. Two minutes later. The waitress came back, and asked what we wanted to order. We were so confused . We ordered again acting like she didn't just take our order 2 minutes ago. I actually ended up changing my order and asked if they had a "house" pilot grigio. She said yes. She asked if we were going to order food and we said just drinks tonight. 5 minutes pass and she brings a large appetizer to our table. I said we didn't order this. She asked if we talked about it though . We said "no" we were never ordering food. I was so taken back by this experience I wanted to cash out after our drinks. I headed to the bar and asked for our bill. We were going to leave cash and leave because the whole situation was very uncomfortable. (Thinking 20 would be enough for the drinks and tip) We finally get the bill and the house wine is on there along with the beer. The total was $37 for 2 drinks. How can a house wine be $17 for a glass? As we left, the whole situation didnt sit right with me. I called later to ask how much a glass of house wine was and the person that answered stated $9.

It was creamy without being heavy, tasted very authentic, and the noodles were homemade. You could tell a lot of care went into it. We also had the pizza bread, which was perfect to share and really well done. They do simple things with really good ingredients and with care from what I gathered I ordered the Dubai chocolate martini and it was really good too. There were a lot of good drink options so I'd imagine there's something for everyone My family had the onion and mushroom soup and loved it as well. Everything that came out was just consistently great. They change the menu often, which I really appreciate, and everything tastes fresh and high quality. You can tell they use good ingredients and actually care about execution. I would absolutely go back and recommend it without hesitation.

We tried to make a reservation but nothing was available. My friend insisted on putting our name on a standby list and the restaurant was extremely excited to call us with a cancellation, which they said rarely happens. I was excited to introduce my friends to this spot! Our party was not the easiest as we have a few dietary restrictions, like one GF person and one vegetarian. We wanted a few of the starters and noticed that getting the antipasto might be the most cost-efficient way. My friend asked if we might have all the meat on one plate and the veggies on another to be considerate of the vegetarian (me) and they nicely accommodated that request. The GF friend was excited to order a Dubai chocolate martini as she thought she would be getting these flavors without the dough she can't have, but it came around the rim and sprinkled in the drink and she had to send it back, which they also quickly accommodated. They also had several mocktails on the menu, really nice options made with NA spirits. I ordered one of these. I usually get the gnocchi here but on this visit they had a pasta special with corn that was like a taste of just-ended summer and I went with that. It was delicious and my friends enjoyed their meals as well. There is a dessert bar next door but service on this night was taking an extremely long time so we didn't get into any desserts. Service on this particular visit was not quite what I've been used to on previous visits overall, and one of my friends mentioned it afterward to the GM who was very accountable and responsive. He had also stopped by to personally check on us during our meal, and it's nice to get a sense that a place genuinely cares about your customer experience. I will continue to come back.
