Tucked into a random…read morestrip mall in Upper St. Clair, Bertrand is nestled in a rundown area that leaves a lot to be expected. Upon entering the restaurant, there are crystal chandeliers, bright colors, French posters, and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant had a lot of potential until we experienced the service and cuisine. I brought my Supper Club here, and we had a group of 8 of us. There was also a very large group at the restaurant. We were neglected on several occasions, and it took us 2 HOURS just to get our food order. That's not an exaggeration. Our waitress was rather snippy with us, and ended up apologizing at the end but it did make for an unpleasant experience. When we finally received our bread, we were so hungry that we scarfed it down despite it being not so great sour dough bread. Every dish was flavorless and left us wanting more. I had to send back the steak on two occasions: once for being undercooked and once for being overcooked. I ended up getting my meal for free. The Coquilles St. Jacques had the smallest scallops without the lovely scallop shell its usually served in. The shrimp cocktail tasted like anything you could get at the grocery store. The Nicoise Salad was just sad and flavorless. The porkchop and escargot had the most flavor. I will definitely not be back to this establishment. Our group did enjoy each other's company, and it created a very memorable experience even though it was an overall bad experience!

Unlike traditional French meals, ours did not take long to prepare (or devour) we loved the BYOB option, and chose to sit outdoors. There was a funny carpet smell when we arrived so I was glad we had the option to sit outside under an umbrella. This meal style wast really my thing.. lots of potatoes, and I didn't get much flavor from the meats. I don't know if I would return but I'm really glad we did come here to celebrate our anniversary!

The service is incredible, our server was incredibly nice, had recommendations and even gave us a celebratory glass of champagne for our anniversary. The baguette was exactly as you want. But the star of the show was the roasted duck. Crispy and flavorful skin and a perfect medium rare on the inside. The potatoes were cheesy and delicious, and my wife loved her lobster spaghetti. The atmosphere is amazing, definitely sit in the front area near the fountain. Seriously, I can't recommend this place more.

Service was appropriately paced. They do ask that you submit your entire order at once which is my preference anyway. Drink: 5/5 delightful cocktails and nice wine menu, definitely all pricey though Food: we have olives, the cheese plate, the bistro salad, and filet mignon frites both with the cognac peppercorn sauce and truffle sauce for the fries and finished with the chocolate soufflé. The food was all very good! The steaks were perfectly good and delish! The fries were quite salty but that is my preference so I enjoyed them a lot. The soufflé was delicious! Not too sweet and the ice cream with sauces was a nice touch. Value& cost 3/5: it was a very pricey dinner especially for what it was. The ambiance is clearly elevated and stunning which contributes to this. For a nice celebratory or special occasion dinner, this is a great place! Definitely pricier than I'd normally pay for an upscale date night. Total score: 4/5 Overall, we had a lovely romantic dinner celebrating our anniversary. We sat in the court yard next to the fountain and it was a great spot. Staff were attentive and friendly-- they also brought us 2 free glasses of rosé for our celebration. We would definitely come back! I'd love to hang out at the bar next time for a more laid back experience.

She offered to make a chocolate martini I said ok that sounded good. My husband ordered a beer. Two minutes later. The waitress came back, and asked what we wanted to order. We were so confused . We ordered again acting like she didn't just take our order 2 minutes ago. I actually ended up changing my order and asked if they had a "house" pilot grigio. She said yes. She asked if we were going to order food and we said just drinks tonight. 5 minutes pass and she brings a large appetizer to our table. I said we didn't order this. She asked if we talked about it though . We said "no" we were never ordering food. I was so taken back by this experience I wanted to cash out after our drinks. I headed to the bar and asked for our bill. We were going to leave cash and leave because the whole situation was very uncomfortable. (Thinking 20 would be enough for the drinks and tip) We finally get the bill and the house wine is on there along with the beer. The total was $37 for 2 drinks. How can a house wine be $17 for a glass? As we left, the whole situation didnt sit right with me. I called later to ask how much a glass of house wine was and the person that answered stated $9.

The prices are higher than other places, but the food is absolutely excellent. Their gnocchi is *superb*, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. My husband tried some of my dish and immediately agreed. I didn't say anything to the staff at the time because I didn't want to cause a scene, and I wasn't sure whether this was somehow normal since I had never had linguini carbonara. After getting home, I looked into whether carbonara is supposed to have such a strong, foul smell and was shocked to learn that it definitely should not. Apparently, certain aged cheeses can develop high levels of butyric acid, an acid associated with the rancid, manure-like odor I experienced. Whatever the cause, the dish was completely inedible to me. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. My husband had the creamed corn pasta that was a special, it was as if someone cooked some noodles and then dumped half a can of cream corn on top. We were very disappointed as this dish was highly recommended by our waitress.

I do not think that I have ever had a better croissant in my entire life and will be looking thinking about it until I go back again! For coffee, we tried 3 of the season lattes: banana cream pie, my boy blue (blueberry maple pancake), and cherry cordial (minus the chocolate drizzle). The lattes were good but were a little too sweet on top of everything else we got. Will definitely try another latte the next time we're in. The staff was very nice and the space was cute and clean.
