Best Chinese food ever!!! My grand mother came from China and when I was very young I remember the taste of her cooking delicious fresh Chinese food. This is the closest I have had to her cooking. It's very clean inside and the staff are very polite and do their best to provide good service. Food consistently good for in restaurant eating and for take out. The people who work here are incredibly impatient, especially with small children. Even well-behaved children are treated with contempt. My wife and I eat out with our young daughter all the time and we have never been treated poorly at other establishments. I love this place. I used be a frequent diner here but had moved out of the area. I've since come back and this past Saturday night revisited the restaurant. We were a large party, including, but not limited to a 2 yr.old boy who had spent 5 hours traveling in a car along with the 4 adults who were traveling with him. It was late, we were hungry but we wanted to be seated together, so we called in advance. We were seated on arrival in a dining room to the right where there were other diners with children. The service was prompt without being rushed, attentive without hovering. People quickly settled in and left stress behind. Our waiter made terrific recommendations that were hits. Everything was fresh and delicious. The mother of our little guy is half Chinese American and I was curious what her take on the food would be. She loved it! This is a white tablecloth dining experience with very reasonable pricing. I'm so happy that they continue to be consistently impressive. I'm even happier to live under an hour away again. read more

We attempted to eat here on 12/31. We have always gone to CLL for NYE in the past and have never had problem. This year was a different story. We were seated right away when we arrived. There were plenty of empty tables. There were several waitstaff in our area as well. NOT one waitstaff ever came to our table. They wouldn't even make eye contact or take a second to help us. We understood that it would be busy, but this service was incredibly rude! Everyone around us was treated in a similar manner. People had been seated before we got there and they had not received service either. The service here has been going down hill for a while. Too bad because the food isn't half bad. We left and went to another restaurant in Concord where we were seated right away and were actually served, and it was delicious. If there was an option for no stars I would have picked that. read more

New Year's Eve tradition - this year it was exceptional. We arrive before six and dine in each year. They add staff so the service is still good even with the crowd. It's a shortened menu for the holiday, but still plenty of delicious choices, all served fresh and hot. I like the food here (Nashua Location) The service when I dine there has not been great. However, I called in an order for lunch today and the girl who answered the phone was downright rude. I was trying to be polite despite not really understanding her, and when I asked a question she yelled at me and said "I already told you soup not included!!"." Here's the best part- I ordered off the lunch menu during lunch hour and they charged me dinner price. I think this place used to be fantastic! But the last few times I've been it seems as though the quality of the food has gone down and their prices up. Last time I got some rice it was dry and the generals chicken tasted pretty bad. Maybe it was an off day that time I went but who knows. Recently visited Chen yang li for the second time and this will be my last!!! The first time I ordered take out and there was a hard piece of plastic in my food. I brought it to the gentleman at the front desk and he was rude and did absolutely nothing. The second time I also ordered take out and the rudeness from the gentleman at the front desk is unforgivable. Rude And not friendly at all and I even said thank you after he handed me my order and no response. Nothing!!!!!!!! We've been long time Chen Yang Li fans. Its quality and atmosphere has always been the best of the Chinese restaurants in the area (though we also like Taipei & Tokyo, just that CYL is probably 2 points better). Unfortunately last night CYL disappointed. We had takeout. The chicken fried rice was almost tasteless. More like little grains with dried vegetables and flat chicken. The sweet & sour chicken was heavy on the "sweet" sauce with very limited vegetables and fruit. The beef with brocolli was the only item meeting the usual excellent standards. Also, separately, I'm disappointed that its only "extras" options (when you order more than $20) are all fried. How about some maki or sushi? read more

I have lived close by for years and just never tried it until last week. Sadly it is my loss that I have waited so long. It was simply fresh well prepared and cooked ingredients. I also like that they didn't load the dishes with cheap filler ingredients like some chinese places do...what comes to mind are huge slices of carrots and chunks of green peppers and such. I ordered the combination lo-mein and was pleased that it was not cooked with an excess of oil or soy sauce. It was done really nicely. A simple dish that so many other places screw up. I also ordered the Dragon and Phoenix which is two dishes...General Gau's chicken and a stir fried lobster with snowpeas and water chestnuts. The chicken was fresh and tender and the batter was nicely crispy even though I took the meal home for takeout. The Lobster dish was nice, but I take away a bit because they tenderized the lobster and the flavor was lacking a little as well as the texture was off for lobster. They also added way too many water chestnuts. I believe it was the owners, husband and wife at the counter and she was pleasant, friendly and efficient in the order/delivery process. Taste sensations were high end, like I've experienced in exclusive restaurants in Washington and Baltimore. Accompanied by exemplary service, the result was the most pleasant meal for 4. The manager Charlie is very rude and we will never go back again. They do not accept gift certificates when they are supposed to and we have tried twice to use it. They always make up an excuse of why they cant take it "today" but come back another day and they "will" they have lost customers, food was ok. Very disappointed. read more

I would put negative stars, but it won't let me. Several co-workers order lunch today to be delivered. We called ahead to see if they deliver, no mention of a delivery charge. We placed 8 orders for lunch, some paid by debit card, some paid with cash. Upon delivery it was discovered after that not only did they charge for delivery, they charged each order a $3.00 fee! They charged in total $24 for delivery!!!!! plus we all gave a $1-2 tip. The food all went to the same place of business, it should have been one $3.00 charge. when we called to complain, we were just told sorry they get charged. what a rip off and to top it off, the food SUCKED! read more

I used to go to Cheng Yang Li often when growing up and it was the spot to go to for Chinese food in Bedford. Many would agree. My most recent experience there was an absolute joke. It was a Saturday at 730 and the place was empty, the owners were watching tv with their feet up and a few servers were looking at us smacking their lips eating noodles. Two immediate signs to turn around and go else where, aside from there being 2 cars in the parking lot, I digress. The table we were sat at wasn't even set. The server put down some rabbit food that had been sitting out. After the painful ordering process, we eventually got our food which was low grade dog food. Especially the spicy tuna roll which looked and, if I were to guess, tasted like already chewed up and spit out tuna salad. Miserable to say the least. Got the check as soon as humanly possible and got out of there pretending the whole thing never happened. I just wish I could have given all of the money to the server who was sweet and tried her best....NOT for that disrespectful slop they consider sustenance. I understand times are tough and Bedford is going through some changes but for the Christ sake, figure it out, or at least move so the Gold Club can move down closer to the highway for easier access. Sorry for the delay in writing a review. Purchased over $50 in take-out for my husband's birthday on August 17th. The prices have increased since last visit and the food quality has definitely gone down. The young lady at the desk when I picked up was polite and efficient. Then the male owner came over and he was pretty nice. I asked to ensure there was at least 3 fortune cookies and the young lady was about to open the bag and check but a rude older Asian lady came out and yelled and said "they all in there" and stopped the young lady from checking. The older Asian man seemed to be afraid of her. I believe this older couple were the owners. I agree with many other reviewers that the treat customers with disrespect and act like they are doing you a favor. The parking lot seems empty most of the time... wonder why. Also, the food quality was horrible. The house fried rice was more expensive than other rice and had almost nothing in it and was mushy, bland and tasted several days old. They do not allow for any substitutions without ridiculous charges. They also charge $4 for extra duck sauce even if you only want 1 extra small one. The food ordered was more than enough for 4 people, and 4 were invited for birthday dinner but thanks to crabby old lady, only had 2 fortune cookies. And I was embarrassed at the quality of the food. Too bad business owners don't realize dissatisfied unappreciated customers tell many many people! Not only did the 4 at dinner know everything about the bad experience and will never spend any hard earned money at Chen Yang Li again, but the approximately 50 or more individuals who we have shared this with also know it is not worth the money. Many we told have also noticed the increase in price, lack of service and inferior food quality. Spending an evening with friends and decided to order a take out dinner. While not the first time eating here, it has been a while. Time has not helped this establishment. The food was less than respectable. I ordered the Tri-Star seafood and chicken dish. I counted 2 shrimp, 4 slices of chicken and 4 scallops (1 was cut in half to make the 4th). The was about 2 whole onions in the dish and no scallions. They should have called this the bloom'n onion dish with couple extras. Ah, but we're not done. The pad Thai was to have chicken and shrimp. No shrimp and rather bland. The Fresh Summer Roll consisted of steamed rice paper, two shrimp (whole) and rice noodles. According to their menu description it was missing basil and scallions. The lettuce was not in the wrap, but used as a bed for the rolls. Not even the peanut butter sauce could have given this item any taste had it been included in our meal. Could there be a pattern happening. The fried rice uses short grain rice that when cooked looks like brown pellets, not to mention that there was very little else in the rice. It looks like this group is cutting corners badly. This is not a good sign, but all that aside I would not recommend to patronize this place ever again. As one can see from some other reviews, this place is very, very poor and clearly the owners do not care about their customers. I ordered to a nearby hotel where I was staying at the recommendation of the front desk help. The order came late, although not that big of a deal. I was on the phone when they knocked, so I went to the door, took the food and added $3 in tip, making my order for one meal, one regular soup and one egg roll order $30. After they left, I saw that they left out the rice completely...no rice, in a Chinese meal with entree. Also, no utensils that were requested, no chopsticks either. I called and told the lady on the phone, but she simply got angry and repeatedly told me that there was a white bag with the rice, and the look again, and that it was "in there." I had to repeatedly tell her that I had no rice...she raised her voice, saying I had an "attitude", etc. and eventually said she would send my rice (extremely rude lady, rude tone and voice) and then hung up on me. So, there was food left out of the order, extremely rude response and attitude from lady on phone when I called to tell them, $3 delivery charge and it did not say anything at all about a delivery charge on their menu and to top it off, the food was average at best...the soup was lukewarm, which is very rare for a Chinese restaurant. Oh, and the final topper...they never delivered the rice! In fact, the hotel worker told me that the delivery guy was coming right up with the rice, but obviously, either he or the restaurant decided to screw with me and not deliver it. I guess he just left the hotel and went back to the restaurant, as he never showed at my room. read more

We had eaten here before and had looked forward to going back, although it had been a few years. The food was good but the service was not. The waitress brought me the wrong dish, and insisted that it was what I had ordered. I had ordered the same dish (Three Style Chicken) as another diner at out table and told her, again, that is what I wanted (she had laughed and commented that I was getting the same thing when she took the order). She whined that if she took the meal back she would have to pay for it and asked if I would eat the meal she brought (Sweet and Sour Chicken). I said no this is not what I ordered. She left the meal there, said "OK I'll pay for it", walked away a short distance, spun around confused and came back yet again to ask if I " was sure I really wanted to switch". I insisted that I did not want the meal she brought, I wanted what I'd ordered. A manager came out and asked if they could make what she brought part of my meal so as not to waste, I again had to say that this is not what I ordered and I do not want it. The manager seemed surprised, so we think she was told a different story. They did make it right and bring the correct meal, but did nothing else to make up for the lousy treatment. We were the only patrons in the entire place when our order was taken. We will not be in a hurry to go back. read more
